@iApna No, bobbing works pretty darn well in Muay Thai, actually. You just have to practice it so that you can do it quick, and by bending your knees, not your waist. If you watch MMA (you don't see much bobbing in Muay Thai), you'll find that the only guys who get knocked out while bobbing and weaving are either slow (i.e. they get pulled down into a knee) or they don't keep their hands up when they weave (i.e. they duck right and get blasted with a left high kick). You just gotta do it right.
@ruebuscm - Ajarn is apparently coming to my city in the new year so I will have to ask him then. But you do make a valid point. I am usually sparring our pro fighters, so naturally I am little reluctant in trying to bob with them. Although it might be very useful for me against taller opponents to close the gap. I will practice it just for fun and see how I do in sparring. I will have to watch some more Dekker clips to see what he was doing.
@iApna Oh, that's awesome. I'd love to take a class with such an expert. Yeah, I used to think the same thing. But if you think about it, the uppercut doesn't keep boxers from bobbing, and that's when it does the most damage to an opponent. There's probably less use for it in Muay Thai, but I think it does have it's applications. Slips are better than bobs, I think.
I'm a student of a guy trained by Ajar Chai and we work on these same drills...awesome :)

I'm surprised Ajarn is teaching bobbing which is really bad in Muay-Thai. time the bob, knee to the face. I prefer to wing block myself and answer.
