I don't know why the word "ridiculously". Hard to play, yes. I got one (Moog Etherwave) one month ago and I can play some themes (At first I'm a cellist). But you are very right on one point: Why the Theremin never really caught on? Because the year after, there comes the Martenot... with a keaboard. That's what I think anyway.

I built a Theremin. You can tune the oscillating coils, so that it really resembles a cello. In tone...plus a little Echoe Plex, you can play over previous harmonics. It actually was a philharmonic instrument in the past, for those whom research.

Thanks for the Haunted House special effects. They scared HELL out of those stupid enough to come to our door. Hi Hevein92, a theremin is an electronic musical instrument. It's essentially a couple of electronic gizmos (radio frequency oscillators) connected to two antennae. You play it by moving your hands around the antennae (without touching them). It's appallingly difficult to play, makes very eerie and 'alien' sounds, and gets used a lot by arty bands and in sci-fi films.
