I respect Rabbi Waskow and admire his dedication to peace, but I cannot help but worry about the true intent of the muslim community. The Q'uran itself says that it is permissible for muslims to lie to infidels(that's us) if it will advance the cause of the worldwide victory of Islam. I have no doubt that many imams have approached him to lull him into a false sense of security as it pertains to the proposed mosque. This is ridiculous. I'm a Muslim, yet I oppose the building of the mosque because I believe instead in an interfaith center rather than just one religious building. It is not a query of religious freedom, a mosque alone would enflame already uneasy tensions between the mosque's detractors and supporters. Plus, last time I checked, close to 20 of the 9/11 victims were Muslim; so saying the mosque should not be built just because of the religion of the 9/11 hijackers is just complete cockamamie.
