  • lived in Maconga for awhile.Duane is much loved.Gregg is reviled as a snitch.

  • Duane said one time Dickey is as good as there is in the world and he'll be smokin tonight

  • @kyledes91 Who is better duane or dickey>?

  • dickey learned slide after duane died he never knew before he actualy learned slide on a plane going to a concert

  • There was an album released on Columbia records called "the first great festivals of the seventies" it was a 3 record set of cuts from Isle of Wight and the Atlanta pop festival... It had the Allman brothers on it performing "Statesboro blues" and was the best I ever heard them. It also had amongst others a blistering version of "Grand Junction" by Poco. If you ever see it BUY IT.... it was a great 3record set!

  • when music demanded you step up to the plate,....this band stepped up to the plate

  • I live in Phoenix where they have a music museum, and they have live performances sometimes. They should have an exhibit and live show of every performer playing the slide...it's an awesome sound.

  • Hell ye-eehhhhh!!!

  • @Electrica990 Yeah I'm an old f*** at 64 and saw the original band 67 times over a two year period. Duane Allman was the ONLY slide player in the band. That is Dickey Betts playing the first solo as a lead guitar.

When I first saw them Duane played a Les Paul Goldtop and Dickey had a Fender Strat. Then Duane got a brown looking Les Paul and Dickey had a Gibson SG. Dickey then gave the SG to Duane for a slide guitar and got a Les Paul himself. Dickey went through about four different Les Paul's

  • @Electrica990 between late 1970 and 1974 with the last one being a sunburst with zebra pickups. He also got another SG for slide after Duane died then he got a real bright and pretty Les Paul sunburst for slide. In 1975 Dickey began using his famous Goldie Goldtop Les Paul which was his main guitar until 1994. I noticed between 1980 and 85 Dickey also would use an Ibenez electrick guitar. In 94 Betts switched to Paul Reed Smith then a red Gibson ES-335 & by 97 he used two Fender Strats thru 2000

  • @Electrica990 I noticed in 2000 Dickey still used the Strats but also would play a red Les Paul half the time which turned out to be Goldie. It sat in the Rock N Roll hall of fame for several years and turned an ugly green so Dickey painted it red. Dickey was kicked out of the ABB in 2000 & in 2001 began using special signiture Les Paul's made for him by Gibson. I think there are about 5 of them. A couple of Goldtops, a red one, a sun burst, a brown one and one which has some very dark brown.

  • I wish I could say that I was around and young when this was made but I wasnt. However through my father I am now an have been for at least 20 years been a lover of this music. I tell my dad all the time, for the money, Yalls music is so much better than my generations will ever be. Love the Allman brothers . Love them so much. Just straight up jamming.

  • The mountaintop!

  • u r show right but i think dicky betts played slid on this jam r.n.p duane

  • no dickey just played regular electric you can tell because duane slide tones are very recanazible and so is dickeys tone. Also dickey did'nt play slide on the electric guitar into after duanes death you can hear this in ain't wastin time no more and poney boy.

  • @sexyrog1 Slide is Duane Allman. Dickey played a mean solo though!

  • I can still see brother Jim smiling the first time we heard this. RIP little brother, you music playing monster.

  • onewayout one way inn close enuff

  • Also Greg, very underrated as a blues singer. He deserves more respect. Plus he was also a player, not a frontman.

  • Put your hands together!!

  • Been an Allman fan for years but several of these pictures were new to me. Nice.

In my humble opinion Fillmore is STILL the best live recording of a band I have ever heard

  • I agree--------Allmans at the Fillmore is the best live recording ever...and my guy is usually Hendrix.(I see you're mostly musicians so: musician also)

  • the best i ever seen was in Alabama but she had a curfew 21 ain't no solder according to her big daddy. wqhat think he meant by that ?????

  • Dickey betts solo in this song is just raw and nasty! and SkyDogs a climber on the slide guitar!

  • u r show right thougt dicky played slid on this song reply please

  • good tempo !

  • southern Everything, they know we don't know , and we know they don/t know ,.

  • I lived these words once what wild days those were :)))

  • SKYDOG!

  • A variation on this riff is 'Give it Up' popularised by Bonnie Raitt which I think is much sexier.

  • I like the un plugged versions when the mood is right,

Sometimes you have to plug in the marshall stacks w

the Humbucker Paul and Ride the lightning..

  • Only concert I've ever seen better than Allman Brothers was Jimi Hendrix in Baltimore,Md. in 1969.

  • Ever see Ten Years After?

  • freddie king:)

  • And the list goes on!

  • You should hear the Floorman play this slide!!

    Dad can hit it!!

  • Twice my fav..

  • Bring all my mules out and kick em one time!

  • Really cool after the guitar break when the bass player comes in at 3:18 it seems like a train wreck & hes right back on at 3:23.Don't know if that was planned or not-but its cool.

  • That was an awsome save ..

  • I often wondered what happened to the guy in the pick-up that hit and killed Duane Allman in Macon,Ga. back in late 1971. Waste of great talent.

  • Dickie is underrated for his work, that first solo was all him.

  • raise your window baby, so i can ease out soft and slow

  • Just sit back, kick your feet up, close your eyes and get high on pure sound.

  • Dwane playing slide. It just dosent get any better. The best.

  • Check out Conrad Oberg's version. A 13 yr-old blind kid...Jeesus Christ!

  • Ooooooeeeeeeee! Sho' do luv me some ABB. Great job!

  • YOU don't tell Sally to calm down! You tell her to lay down... :)

  • stop comparing great bands and just enjoy the music

  • Very COOL the Allman!!!!

  • With all due respect, were the Allman Brothers America's answer to Led Zeppelin? Due to the 32,298 views, the answer seems to be yes.

  • I don't think it works that way. It may have been Duane's answer to Led Zep. But, I'm sure the country didn't contract the band out to specifically battle against England.

  • I hear you. Besides, it's best not to battle with the giants. That is, unless you are David. Still, one shouldn't rely on miracles. Don't outspend the competition; outthink them. Best business advice I ever read from a magazine. Peace!

  • When I was a kid it was the best, I just listened to all these Gods and dreamed of being them. Now I'm older and like everyone else, I'm full of opinions and speculations about whose who. Ugh.

  • how the hell does anyone compare apples to oranges, by the way spell racecar backwards!!

  • God why did you go and leave us with the innane crap that goes for music these days after having blessed us with such fine examples of music such as these dear departed former Allman Bothers?

  • Amen!

  • @unclexeres you said it bro !

  • one of the best

  • bass solo kicks ass love it yes indeed

  • i love this song!!!great band...

  • hey i have a question, what recordings of duane, have him using his SG? he didnt get it until shortly before he died, so he didnt have it to long

i just know this one he used it, any others?

  • breathtaking

  • Great photo montage. Good job man.

  • is dickey's solo the longer, solo?

    the suspense is killing me

  • Quialman, Duane played only slide on this tune. The first solo is Dickie...Dickie always had the more metallic tone...Duane had the more vocal tone.

  • i'm sorry... i'm just making sure

    calm down there, sally

  • yes dicky wails on the first solo you hear.

  • i think dickey's solo isn't the slide on, duane played the slide solo i believe.. but the first solo might be duane as well.. idk

  • yah Dickey didnt learn how to play slide until after Duane died (according to Greg Allman)

oh man i just say Dickey last night... oh man can he play... best show i've ever been 2 n it was FREE!!!

  • seeing them august 20th, cant wait!

  • hey i was there too!! where were u? like seated? i was on the lawn

    they still play mountain jam?

  • damn, dickey can shred

  • Wow!!! I never get tired of this song! I could play it sunrise to sunset. My day would be complete!

  • Just had to play this again.. Mighty fine thanks BritBlues..

  • They're in storage, but when I get 'em out I'll probably post 'em on my Myspace site. It's gonna be awhile though so be patient! I took most of the shots of Johnny that night, but I got one of Duane and one of Berry as well.

  • This, along with the live "Crossroads" by Cream on the album "Wheels of Fire" - are the best live recordings EVER !! These recordings captured both bands at their very best - and, were both recorded and engineered by the late, great Tom Dowd ! I have been listening to this song since 1972 - and it still amazes me to this day !

  • Tom Dowd invited me down to Criteria Studios in Miami one night in April 1990 to sit in on a session with The Allman Brothers for the Seven Turns CD. I got to watch them lay down "Good Clean Fun" and "Gambler's Roll". He invited me back a second night to watch Warren Haynes lay down the lead part for "Gambler's Roll". It was an amazing two nights to say the least! I'll never forget the experience. God Bless you Tom, I love and miss you greatly. There will never be another like him...

  • duane dickey and berry had something magic goin on when they played, that lead guitar interplay will never be matched in my mind.

  • Rollin hard...

  • remember Duane Allman

  • duane is my hero!

i also love the solos in you don't love me... sends chills down my spine!

  • PURE MAGIC, like my first taste of cheese cake!My first kiss!

  • i remember how this made me feel, if only something could move me like this again

  • I saw thm at the Fillmore East on 3/12/71 the wekend they did that amazing live album and opened for the mighty Johnny Winter. Still have the color slides I took that night. Whatta show!

  • You should make those shots available to the public. They're quite historic now.

  • Incredible! No other word. To be able to go back in time to see Duane live. I've got this on 2CD set. I was born in '71.

  • Duane and the ABB are pure magic here

  • Awesome!!! 2nd only to whipping post in my opinion.

  • (live at filmore) was pure music magic, as was the years 68-72 was full of music legends, never to be seen again.

  • that is so the truth

  • atlanta fulton county at 2:00, but a lot of pictures i nevr saw, really nice. at 3:00 dickey's highway call shoot, I have that. play all night!

  • very good

  • Absolute Classic!!!!
