  • At 0:05 you can see the building behind the south end zone. that is " Weil Hall" the Civil Engineering building. Spent countless hours in that building and the best thing of all it was across the street from the stadium great times!. I graduated in 09 and is great to see the CE building was always there. Thanks for posting!

  • 56 wasn't a great year for Florida,they went 6-4.

  • @BigMDS67 Well consider this. Back then QB's who completed just barely over 50% of their passes were considered God's so maybe back then 6-4 wasn't so bad.

  • which game was the game that never happend?

  • Great footage. That's well before my time, it's amazing how steadily the stadium has grown over the years.

  • It doesn't matter if you're a Florida fan or a Miami fan, THAT video (old film) is really neat! Thanks for sharing it.

My dad was in school at that time. He's a 1954 UF grad, so chances are good he was at the game.

Seeing a few shots of the old north end zone was nice. It was only about 30 rows high until 1990 when UF built up the massive north end zone. In the shots to the video's right, you can see the south end zone & Stadium Drive (I have no idea what the road may have been called then).

  • BTW that's exactly 100 years after the school was founded. =D

  • That's Ben Hill Griffin Stadium!? MY GOD IT"S SMALL!

  • Thank you for putting this on here! I wish there was more of this!!!!

  • wow great video. Its always good to see how differnt college football was back then. great vid.

  • This video is so much fun to watch !

I love videos like this and the appearance of Needles is fantastic.

    Thank you for posting :)

  • You're welcome, Jazzgirl.

BTW, I've gotta concede, when I got an email notification that someone had posted in this thread, I expected it to be a Gator fan chortling about their victory over the Canes last week. You're comment was a very welcome relief. :)

  • your not you're

  • Dude, thats awsome...did one of your family members play ball for either team?

My dad played for the Canes in the 70's and he said he found an old video and the part where it was cued up at, it was of them fumbling the ball, lol

  • LOL. That's a great story.

If it was during the '70s I'm sure I saw that fumble.:)

None of my relatives played for the Canes. My parents are alums Class of '55.

  • right, i forgot to read before i commented.

He's trying to put that game from some old tape, not beta or vhs, something else...on dvd. I hope he can do it.

  • I can't wait til the Gators DESTROY the Canes this year

  • Wow, way cool man!!! That is some top class shit right here!

  • As a UM alumni born and raised 18 years in Gainesville, this is fascinating. I don't think the 352 had a stoplight back then from the appearance of the Florida Field. Hurricanes are going to pull the upset again this year baby! Tebow will be crushed.

  • Wow this is amazing footage, thanks for sharing. Interesting to see how the UF stadium and campus has changed over the past 52 years.

  • Gator fans need to get over it. What a bunch of babies! Sorry, next time maybe the Miami AD should have special accomodations made so that the whimpy Gator fans don't get their feelings hurt. The Canes lead the series...time to face it.

  • correction Arizona*

and ur right they should win to teams like

    Frescno state and Washington state

qb's dont usually bench 450-500...idk who realyl does..

tebow is a sophmore and he competed w/ GREAT teams and he did well in all of them...bottom line i belive it was close between mcfadden and tebow.

but tebow had more td's and he had a better record.

  • is this what the games looked like the last time the gators beat miami? hahaha

  • we will win this year

    HAAH

  • we'll see.

  • yep.

the teams r baout equallly ranked

  • miami last went to gainseville in 2002. they were an underdog and they blew out uf something like 41-16. in 2003 miami was favored and won 38-33. the assumptions and drama is always differnt leading up to the game. but there are a few things that have stayed constant each time they play for the last two decades. 1) uf fans say they will win. 2) they don't, miami always wins.

  • ok

i'm 14 so in 2003 i was 10 so idc about the past.

i just know last year u suked..and the year b4.

and florida is gettin a lot better

tebow is a junior...and and many other players have aged

    and we have gottten

  • ok since you are young and dont know the history, ill give you the short version. miami and florida was once a great rivalry, then florida refused to play miami anymore. we hardly ever play. each time we do play, gators fans say they will win, but then they lose. its a tradition.

  • the record is 25-27

    .........................

  • the record is 28-25 in miami's favor. miami also has more championships. miami also has more first round draft choices. miami has also gone undefeated 4 times. the gaytors have never done that.

  • were talkin about the Florida Miami Game

    25-27*

    we got the heisman winner

  • what is 25-27??

the record is 28-25 in miami's favor.

tebow should not have won the heisman. brohm, mcfadden, and dixon were all better.

  • wat r u talking about

    tebow had 32 passing touchdowns

and 23 running touchdowns AND he is a sophmore

mcfadden is a RB and he had 21 rusing td's

Dixon didnt even finish the year

    a

  • dixon not finishing the season should not have mattered in my opinion. he was a lock heisman winner but because he got injured with two games left or whatever it was he didn't win it? that was not a good enough reason. mcfadden was hands down a better player than tebow. he probably had a better arm than tebow. why didn't kevin smith win the heisman??? kevin smith had better stats than anyone in the country but doesn't get any consideration.

  • who does kevin smith play? wat ranked teams did he beat?

same w/ dixon, oregons schedule SUKED so and

and when u play suky teams it makes u look good

Tebow played LSU,Georgia,Kentucky, and a lot more..

i agree if tebow didnt score so many td's Mcfadden deserved it b/c he is a senior and he is good to

  • tebow LOST to lsu, georgia, and kentucky's not a real great team. dixon BEAT usc. Kevin Smith tore it up against Texas which is always a good team, they lost but Kevin Smith almost single-handedly won that game.

  • lsu Blew out ohio state at the Championship

Georgia blew out Hawaii the Suagr Bowl

Kentucky had Andre Woodson who was a hesiman contestan at one point and Kentucky Beat Lsu in o.t..Kevin Smith had 29 RUSHING td's tim tebwo had like 20ish... o ya Tebow is a QB not a running back

dixon played one good team USC

teams like Arizona state and Fresno state dont count

    Tim tebow

  • lsu and georgia are good. you are waisting your time if you are trying to convince me they are good. they were probably the two best teams in college football last year. but tebow lost to both of them. so i don't see why those games should be used as a reason of why the sports writers decided it was a good idea to give something like the heisman to a player like tim tebow. that should go to the best player in america. not the player who lost to the best teams.

  • I remember the LSU game

Tebow scored 3 td's and no interceptions

He had a late that would of won the game

but Keestan Moore Fumbled it and LSU got the ball back....and scored 24-28

Tim Tebow benches 450-500 pounds i've heard both

that isnt bad for q QB

    Oregon lost to Arizona state

    and ucla..suky teams

and they only played SUKY TEAMS which makes them look good

just like hawaii who played crappy teams then they played georgia and got thier butts kiked by a desent team

  • you don't remember the lsu game very well because he did throw an int. he thew an interception late in the game that basically lost the game for the gaytors. he also completed less than half of his passes which is pretty pitiful. i don't believe tebow benches that much. but even if he benched 10tons, that shouldn't win someone the heisman.

Oregon did NOT lose to arizona state. again you made something up. oregon did lose to ucla but only because dixon was injured. you are stupid.

  • This is fantastic--also unusual to see something that far back in color. Greatness!

  • Thanks for the compliments on the video.

Yeah, I'm not surprised my dad was ahead of the curve, with a color camera in the mid '50s. When I was a kid we always had the first remote control in the neighborhood, first VCR, portable TVs, etc.

LOL. It certainly has changed. My dad's computer dates to '99, and he still uses headphones and radios and binoculars that I remember from the '70s.

  • I note both teams are wearing dark but different colored jersies. This was common before black and white TV broadcasts caused a switch to visiting teams in white jersies, (there was a lag time before that became common). It made for an even more colorful look back then.

  • thanks for posting... that's some great footage.

  • wow! Thanks for this video. I saw the Florida cloth and miami banner. The quality is poor but I can see and tell. This has to be up in Gainesville. It doesn't look like the orange bowl.

  • Cool video, Awsi. Was Needles wearing a UF saddle cloth?

  • Hard to tell, but I think it looks like a regular saddle cloth.

Great creativity for the card stunt crew to make it a Gator saddle cloth.

I wonder when card stunts went out of style? As a kid in the late '60s I remember a few times they had cards under your seat at the Orange Bowl and we were told to hold them up. Seemed stupid to me but I guess I never saw the intended product from afar. That might have been at Orange Bowl games with the fancy halftime show, not regular season games.

  • is this ben hill griffin stadium?

  • Yep, believe it or not, that's it.

It will always be Florida Field to me. That's what it was called when I attended Canes/Gators games in the '70s and '80s.

Let's hope the series is revived on an annual basis.

  • The animosity canes fans have for UF, I don't think that will happen. It's worse now than it was in the early 80's!

As a gator fan, I wasn't happy when they ended the series, but the way gator fans were treated at the OB in '87 (the last continous game of the series), I changed my thoughts. I went to the OB in '03 and nothing has changed. I think playing home-and-home every 4 or 5 years would be better for both teams.

  • Thanks for posting this. That's Weil Hall that you can see behind the south end zone.

  • this is great and incredibly cool!

  • Thank you. As soon as I saw it I was confident others would appreciate it also.

I noticed it got linked on Gator forums and they commented on all the changes to the Swamp. The only thing I recognized from the games I attended in the '70s and '80s was that building behind the end zone.
