Why do they still have Police directing traffic in the US in the 21st century? You can understand it in some third world country were the can't afford traffic lights and there 1000's of punters in flips flops driving those mad mopeds with the wheel barrow strapped to the side, and fucking rickshaws and that kinda shit. I don't think I have seen it in the UK since the 60's, in fact I don't think I have ever seen it myself, only maybe only old films.

It's probably just tradition. I live in Philly and it's kinda cool. It's definately not everywhere. I think in University city it may be needed because yielding to pedestrians is optional to some drivers in Philly...lol
