i have tried these a couple times at the West Edmonton Mall i got the hang of it after a few lessons but like any machine these do have limits to i think they could be dicey on glare ice so would a bike a car even walking but to get around they do look cool and riding one you dont look old or infirm

@i0am0here Actually it depends on how you use it, Segs4Vets has given out over 700 of these segways to wounded vets to use as wheel chairs. I lost a leg in Iraq and have a metal pelvis, hip and tail bone as well as having my only leg left having an AK-47 round being shot right through the center of it. I use this as my wheel chair and I am standing which helps with many aspects. In a wheel chair everyone is looking down at me, my digestive tract is better and I feel much better on a segway.

Your problems began when you leaned over the handlebar to go forward as fast as possible (you're supposed to leave a gap between your body and the handlebar) and worsened when you jerked the handlebar back and again failed to leave a gap b/w your body and the handlebar, making an improper emergency stop. This caused an overcorrection where you [for a third time] failed to leave a gap b/w your body and the bar and by then, the machine just couldn't compensate for your numerous operator errors.

Looks like that segway needs a bit of fine tuning in its gyroscope PID algorithm. That was classic overshoot.

I don't blame the guy because the machine should be perfectly capable of remaining stable in the direction of travel regardless of operator input. I know if i ever get behind one I'll be wanting to test it in much the same as he did.

segways are a fad and just a big toy. You can spend all that money on someting that really works. You can get a nice bike for under $500.00 and bikes are much safer. Maybe you want an electric bike you can get those too much cheaper. Scooters are cheaper by far and great gas mileage. Sorry thery are not good for sidewalks and I would be afraid on the road. Motorcycles at least have metal behind you and in front of you, segways dont have much of anything.
