@cp4739 thats interesting I have never seen a wayside signal for indicating operation. When does it turn green? Could a loaded train stop in time.
Usually there is a lens in the side of the crossing flasher that lets the engineer see that the filaments of the crossing signal are flashing. Or if commercial power fails the crossing electronics phone home to the dispatcher.

@Eng8492 If you mean the green signal, that was just to indicate the crossing flashers were operating if I remember correctly.
