How does this compare to the 5x3 Big Deluxe (which I believe is the same amp except that it uses a 6L6 power section, as apposed to the 5e3's 6V6)? Does this get uncomfortably loud before breaking up, or does it break up at fairly low volumes?
notice he was deep into overdrive right when the volume was at 3.
i experience the same thing with my ceriatone 5e3 and it's bloody brilliant! if you do want to clean it up a bit, try using a speaker with a slower break-up mode.
perhaps a Cannabis Rex. Alnico speakers tend to have a very fast breakup mode.
you need sliders pickups from australia then try the test again believe me these are the only single coils anyone needs dont believe me check out youtube for tommy katona doing demos for sliders pickups i agree nos tubes and maybe something like a nice ceramic speaker would help as well
Very helpful demo for me, having never put "5e3" and these "definitive" tones together in my head. Thanks! Heard the sounds countless times, of course, but I always associated 5e3 with a clunkier 50's tone in real life. Good stuff, Palmiuga.
I know what you mean but you did not have to be a ass about it :) Its not a useless video and it sounds great. How in the world would you know how he recorded it?
This clip is better than 90% of them where people just use the mic on their camera. However, nothing beats using two mics: one close and one backed off about 5-8 feet.
...do you jumper?? I do on my Tweed Deluxe and get some 'thicker' and more densely Rich tones - especially with a LP... Try jumping Bright to input 2 Normal and inputting guitar into Normal 1
any other easy builds that i could do? I am not personally a huge fan of the loads of compression on this amp, it always sounds to me like the mic is distorting. i was going to build it to get some experience so i could move on to some more complex builds, but i want something with a tone that i like at least somewhat, because this isn't too cheap to do.
I don't know, the amp sounds flat to me. Tonally pretty good, just no depth. Maybe the recording equipment.

try using good new old stock tubes and a Celestion Blue alnico speaker. The amp could benefit from using both of these.

How are you getting the distortion? I have a 5E3 clone I built from a Mission Amps kit & it doesn't break up that well.

Demos like this are useless, the amp could be
anything, even a DI sound. What is needed is an ambient mike to capture the real sound.

WTF are you talking about this demo is great. Good job and great playing.

No. It sounds like a Tweed Deluxe, and he's a good guitarist.

It's hugely compressed sounding and the Strat is always thin and nasally. So that's a YES
