yo amo a esta señora :D <3 estudio violín en el Conservatorio de la Universidad Católica de Valparaíso en Chile .... esta genio del violín es una gran inspiración para mi desarrollo como violinista :D
Incomparable. She is master of the music, truly musical and worthy of the praise Sibelius himself had for her interpretation of his concerto. She is incredible and authentic. Wow!
@tristan01101 Yup, that part of the concerto is just so full of beauty, sadness and longing, enough to move someone to tears, even the person playing it. I saw Silvia Marcovici cry a bit during or after a performance of the Bruch #1...same thing, playing an ultra-romantic piece of music like that can unleash things from deep within.
I was lucky enough to see her perform in a small hall at Longy. There was no program, and not even Ms. Haendel knew what she was going to play. Then she yelled, "What do you want to hear?". Somebody in the audience yelled back "Bach Chaconne", and she agreed. The performance was almost perfect...what a legend.
"If there is one work with which the name of Ida Haendel is inextricably linked, it is Sibelius’s Violin Concerto. "
"In 1949, Sibelius heard her interpretation, commenting afterwards that she “played it masterfully in every respect”. “I congratulate myself,” he added, “that my concerto has found an interpreter of your rare standard.” "
you hear everything in her playing, the elements, the stars being born and dying, the begining of time, history, past, present, future, she does it all, with her soul and a violin, in a word, amazing
The orchestra is the Montreal Symphony. Judging by the age of some former colleagues, it must be 1980 or prior - Franz-Paul Decker was the artistic director until 1975, but probably conducted occasionally after that. Nice camera work, interesting to see how a woman with small hands gets such powerful sound.
This wonderful artist's interpretation of the Sibelius Violin Concerto prompted Sibelius himself to write a hand written letter thanking her for such an outstanding performance...this is such an amazing performance!
@mykeeistopchef it is amazingly beautiful and i had the pleasure of meeting her three weeks ago and it was magical, i got pictures and everything! :D x
In a word-superb.TY for sharing.

Wow, there's a purity in her sound. Toward the end, I felt as if she was actually singing THROUGH her violin. I'm touched.
