The four new tracks on BLAST were from an aborted album called FUNK IT. It was supposed to bring the Brothers Johnson back on track after WINNERS flopped. "Echoes of An Era," the non-album b-side of "Welcome to The Club" (#13 R&B) was supposedly from this aborted album.
I hadn't heard this since my vinyl got destroyed whilst traveling across the desert to California.... Damn near impossible to find too. It's a shame too because it is one of their best songs.... Thanks for posting it!!!
time is closin' in and you can't be left without your walkin' shoes! bypass all the foot stomping funk you can here the message in this song, thanks for posting this
One of my favorites from Brothers Johnson... Amazon only has it on Vinyl and Cassette. :-( bummer.... Thanks for posting it. I haven't heard it since the early 80's... Great to hear it again!!!!
wasn't 'Welcome to the Club' the other new track from that album? also a tune i'd love to hear on on the 'Tube. This one in particular is very reminiscent of a song from their album with the gatefold Olympics theme sleeve.
I covered this tune with my first real band! Great song. Yes George is playing the bass on this one to show that he was no slouch either! Bro Jays are my favorites along with Stanley Clarke.
there is a true Message in this video if you listen to the lyrics. "Listen to the voice from another land." sounds like Isaiah 41:9-16, Revelation 7:2 & 3 to me.
Hey becky, your absolutely right! Man, thank the Lord above that someone knows the word and can hear beyond the musical instruments. Afterall, the words to a song is what really matters, when you think about it. After giving their hearts to Jesus, they put an album out called "Passage", did you know this? Did any of you know this part of their lives?
once Quincy stopped producing them, it seemed like their later albums did not sell here in the states!I think the last Quincy produced album was-''Blam?', anyways LONG LIVE TWO OF THEE MOST TALENTED MUSICIANS ON THIS PALNET EARTH!~. I would love to see Louis record music with Stanley,Percy Jones,Marcu, and Geddy Lee!~WHAT A MASTER C.D. THAT WOULD BE!
@IIiiioooiiiII no, the last album Q did with them was Light Up the Night which included Stomp, i agree after this album the hits stopped but this is when Micheal Jackson's Thriller was released.
I remember this being from a spin off Christian band called Passage... Louis his wife and Richard Heath. I think George was a guest and plays bass on this one! I emailed Louis Johnson and hope to get an answer soon.
I love this song, it is simply groovy and amazing. The Brothers Johnson proved that they could make master hits on their own. People didn't pick up on them after Quincy but their music is still the best/ Please post some other songs from Blast that aren't on CD
It is such a shame what happened to the brothers once Winners hit, everyone ignored them and they were still playing the baddest jams on the planet. even today Winners and Blast are ignored and forgotten. I know Winners made it onto cd (Europe and Japan)
just one thing...the actual name of the song is "The Great Awaking", not "The Great Awakening". Same meaning, just different spelling. Just my two cents y'all...
Wow thanks for posting this song!! This is me and my brothers theme song! George Johnson is playing bass and guitar on this track! George is just as funky as louis on bass! I love his style of play as well!! Long live the brothers!! They are my heroes!!!

Actually it was 1980's Light Up The Night that Quincy last produced, the one with "Stomp" on it.

Ace man, ace. Great upload. This was an unusual track for The Brothers Johnson, but it works, nonetheless!
