  • Good Ridance!!!

  • Funny how an NRL match - one of the most profitable programmes in Australia TV - is the last thing Setanta would ever show..

  • Comment removed

  • rip

  • Fuckin' hate SKINTA, Glad it went bust!!!

  • least i can watch the away england matches now :)

  • Fucking wank that channel .. Never got any good boxing fights !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • My prediction is that ESPN UK will take the Ukraine V england game as well as The england V slovenia Friendly

  • its a fucking shame they went under, setanta was good value for 12.99 (obviously too good for that price) but i wouldn't write them off just yet

  • Setanta down just like ITV Digital in May 2002

  • is setanta not a channel nymore ?

  • so Ukraine V england will be on ITV is that official

  • no its up for auction.

  • along with itv pulling out of showing boxing now setanta going bust this is a sad day for boxing fans, looks like sky sports will get the rights and every boxing event will be ppv

  • Are the england away international rights up for bidding I think ESPN will get all the footie rights

  • thats the reason they went bust.... spending all their money on creating adverts...

  • No, they were just canceled, good advertisements are good business, if you have a white advertisement or something with black text saying : Watch Setanta Today.

thats rather demanding and nobody will go ahead with it, like movies, you can't just have a half arsed effort with a movie, just look at how "great" they'll sell if they try pull that cheap ass jew attempt.

  • what about ufc 100? how can i watch that??

  • Think Virgin will have that, on the sunday night tho :-(

  • From what I hear I dont think we will be able to watch it!

  • how will we watch the Ukraine V england Match now that setanta have gone in front of our eyes

  • Probably on sky, itv, bbc, five or espn.

  • it's on itv. they automatically get all the england away games.

  • you can still go to games... whos the fool sky sports charging you for sport or you paying them.. work it out

  • Good riddance. Now all we need is Sky to fold then I'll be able to go to games on a saturday again.

  • OH NO WHAT ABOUT SPECIAL 1 TV

  • The Walt Disney Company's ESPN will take over most of Setanta's programing. ESPN is one of the largest sports broadcasters in the U.S with the Super Bowl the largest sports broadcast in the U.S.

  • it was crap any way now we can watch england games for free again

  • Thats what happens when a company operates with an unsustainable business model. 200 people made redundant. Congratulations Setanta.

  • and what do you know about it

  • :-( Gutted

  • I think the idea of UFC goin to Virgin 1 is is the main possibility, it will be delayed tho, cant see them goin live, but it would be fuckin great if they did and we didnt have to pay!

Yeah i think Sky will Box Office UFC Live Events, im not payin 15 quid an event, day light robbery! Especially if Bravo or Virgin get the rerun on the Sunday.

  • so what will happen to the England games??, are they gonna be sold back to Sky or will ESPN UK have them???

  • I think the BBC should have the England games.

  • i agreee with that totally, in Germany they have all games on National Television they should do that here, we shouldnt have to pay to show our support to our lads!

  • And in Setanta's homeland, Ireland too!

All Rep. of Ireland's games are usually on RTE over there.

Same cannot be said about the other home nations. :-(

  • In Ireland aswell, all our WC 2010 qualifiers are live on RTÉ, as well as Setanta. (Setanta Ireland that is)

  • i have an idea virgin 1 will be the new home of ufc with them showing the tuf

  • So they ended Setanta 1 with a commericial?!? I would like to see the last several minutes of Setanta 1 to see if it ended like Setanta News did, by tell us that we were witnessing the end of the station.

  • it's still on in ireland and international ,

    but for how long?

  • its not gonna stop

  • The Irish branch is still going and doing well apparently.

The administrators will have no problem selling Setanta Ireland!

Setanta's demise is a big deal in Ireland, it was top story on yesterday's RTE Six-One News

  • great thing is its stll on over here steve bunces boxing hour lives on great channel

  • such a pity so many people have lost their jobs , i hated the customer service, but loved the shows and broadcasting. how much will espn cost now. there is talk or setanta planning a comeback by august 2009, but without the epl they will struggle, they will have to try and grab loads of championship foorball and lower eagues as well as german french spanish and italian league football.

btw , that blonde bird that presents the news, damn, il miss her too, hope sky plucks her up she was quality.

  • Three questions............................... WTF is gonna happen to the UFC being shown in UK? Are ESPN buyin the rights like the footie? And are they gonna make it Pay Per Veiw?

I have looked for the info but i dont know if anything has been confirmed yet, Can anyone shed any light please?

    No bollocks either, truth only

  • Official statement from UFC

Throughout the last few weeks we have been kept informed of the situation at Setanta and therefore we are in a position to ensure our UK and Eire fans will not miss any of this summers huge UFC events, commencing with UFC 100 in July.

We will be announcing the new home of UFC shortly but assure our fans they wont miss any of the upcoming super-fights."

My Guess is it will go to Bravo on delay or live coverage on sky sports to attract setanta subscribers

  • The front runners to pick up UFC fprogramming are Bravo - who've shown it in the past - and Virgin 1, which has been showing the Ultimate Fighter a day after Setanta broadcast it.

My bet is that it'll go to one of those, possibly Virgin 1 if I was pushed to choose.

  • Their appalling customer service lost/put off so many customers they could never succeed

  • Just been confirmed on Five Live, Liverpool will be holding a minutes silence, as a sign of respect.

    RIP

  • Is this just another sign that unless you're an established company (ie ITV or BBC) that you cannot compete with Sky? ITV Digital & Setanta Sports have both failed.

  • worst customer service i have ever dealt with. good riddance, although i do feel for the staff who have lost their jobs.

  • Their customer service was shocking - i only subscribed for the boxing and it was such a pain in the arse dealing with them! Doubt i'll bother with ESPN, there's enogh on Sky for me

  • R.I.P

  • The question is though will ESPN be able to compete fairly with Murdoch so they don't pull out of the UK market? ESPN only have a tiny slither compared to Murdoch's lion's share. Also, what about viewing - is pay per view sport with an aerial and without a long term contract to Sky dead? I hope not.

  • Pretty sad to see a bunch of morons cheering on the loss of 200 jobs... wonder how you'd feel if someone was giddy over the loss of your job?

  • i want to see the finish of setanta sports news. all those awful presenters being unemployed and having to go through the motions.

good riddance though - im a sky man and im glad setanta is caput.

  • About time you gang of twats. What a piss poor company.

  • Rupert Murdoch wins again - this greedy megalomaniac has been ALLOWED to grab the whole of the field leaving poor Setanta and ITV with the crumbs. I am so glad I have boycotted the Sun and the Times for ten years - at least the greedy little right wing entity can't touch the BBC!

  • what? its not his fault that the channel failed - charging £13 for a few matches per month was never gonna work.

plus ESPN have gotten the rights to show the 46 games next season, not Sky.

  • Comment removed

  • It's not really his fault that the company failed. The charged £13 a month for a service that couldn't match that of Sky. And can you blame The EPL for giving Sky the majority of coerage? Not really, they've provided us successfully the EPL for what, over a decade & a half? Remember, ITV Digital got the coverage, failed & almost saw the end of some low league teams. Could the FA give ITV more than just 'crumbs' after the catastrophe last time. Same with Setanta, no-one wants another ITV Digital

  • Good riddance, piss poor channel.

  • good riddance.

  • very sad day,i loved setanta, great coverage of PL,FA cup,England away games, football matters, the friday football show,i'm on setanta sport...i'll be missing Rebecca Lowe most of all....sad day.

  • very sad day i loved setanta...great coverage of PL ,FA cup..England away games, football matter, the friday football show,i'm on setanta sport....i'll miss Rebecca Lowe most of all!...sad day

  • When the end came finally came it certainly was quick.......

  • I can't believe it's really the end (at least for us here in the UK) RIP Setanta Sports.

  • RIP setanta..

  • Have you got the 'goodbyes' bit?
