been here before!!! had to come back!!! man Paulie you are good ,maybe you could be the "new guy" as they always refer to Neil as the "new guy" someday. Peace.
Great job! Looks great...just wish you were higher than Neil in the video mix. I couldn't hear your drums very well until the track faded out on the outro.
Always loved the drums on "The Big Money", and the instrumental bridge is my absolute favourite part of the tune.
I agree on Power Windows, for me that was the last good Rush album. There are a few good songs after that (Driven for one), but no entire albums I enjoy listening to. I don't mind the heavy electronic stuff, it's diverse enough to still be interesting.
"Power Windows is just about the peak of Rush in my opinion too. Great tunes. AMAZING sound and really top-notch independence from all three players. Long live the '80s! " Totally agreed!! .. and great work as always, Paulie. Best wishes from Germany.
What the hell, WMG has no power over Clod Fire, they didn't even have anything to do with it, file a claim back on them jackas*es, their ruining YouTube!
Nail the cymbal on opening....RUSH into the high hat part with upward crescendo. It is a RUN through the hi-hay part, not a rush through it.
Listen for the pause in Neil's Hi Hat man. It is total Neil and totally accented on progressive movement. Think of playing this part running uphill....
I agree--this is the epitome of Rush! Technically, it's as challenging as anything off of 2112. The interplay during the breakdown/solo is amazing; gives me chills whenever I hear the song. Great drumming, btw. Unfortunately, Peart was doing some hardcore triggering back then, so some of his fills are not going to fly without some really obscure electronics, but you held it together masterfully.
Nice job. You fell apart at 3:26 but recovered well. Also the high-hat work in the beginning you played backwards, meaning you played it leading with your right hand, Neil uses his left hand on that.
I didn't fall apart at 3:26, I just kept the beat because I don't have the sounds to imitate what Neil is triggering during that song.
As for the beginning, I think as long as the notes are correct, it doesn't really matter which hand you lead with. I actually think that Neil leads with his left when coming off the right handed fill and with his right when coming off the left handed fill. Remember, my cowbells are in a different place too, so I had to do something weird.
Neil actually alternates. Seriously, though--do we have to do everything exactly the way he does it? I'm not Neil Peart, but I would imagine he's artist enough to enjoy the variations others would lend to his arrangements. Unfortunately, Rush fans aren't so inclined. ("He didn't do that slap transition like Geddy--he sucks!" "Doesn't she know Alex's solo was based on Lydian?") This is probably why more artists/groups don't cover Rush and, thereby, introduce them to new fan bases.
Gentlemen~ Neil does not do anything impromptu. THIS song is dynamic, and how often does Neil lead his dynamics left-handidly. Seldom.
This drummer is playing THE BIG MONEY well, and most players could not.
But, as always, most drummers trying to play Neil do not have the song integrity in their head. They play what they think is the drum line. The drum line in THIS song is MORE DYNAMIC than most. You truly have to listen to it to be able to play it correctly.
Not true. Neil leads with the right hand in this song. The drummer here is missing the start and stop dynamics of the intro, and other segs of the song. While I think you are right in it sounds :backwards: it is juts improper accents on the dynamics of the song changing
It's funny. When I was in college in mid 90s, my grunge rocker buddies would always heckle me whenever I listened to Power Windows. "Dude! It's so hideously 80s!" Of course now that that sound seems to have come around again in popular music, there are probably 500 bands that would kill to have the same production as on that album. The 90s were a fun time to be in a band, but frankly a terrible time to be a musician, as any technique or flair was so severely frowned upon.
OUTSTANDING! You make it look so easy. I especially like the cymbal mute and crash you toss off at 2:46. I don't know why people would slag this song. The Big Money (and then Power Windows) got me into Rush so many years ago!
Hi - just 'discovered' you today and can't stop watching more and more of your videos. I've been a drummer and a major Rush fan for years and you do the songs so well, great sound too. Keep posting more - maybe Spirit of Radio, unless I've just not spotted it yet. I'm sure many people are using your page as a learning tool for Rush and 'technique' in general. Well done!
Not for this song. Many of the other (Rush) songs that I've done have required some rigorous notational work to figure out some of the more intricate parts. Mainly it's just keeping the different parts straight and in the right order the presents one with a challenge.
I know all Rush albums from head to toe, love'em all but PW is probably on my top 3. I was really impressed with your performance. Watching you gave me the goose bumps and I consider you performance rather close to perfection. Excellent job!
Really nice work on this. I love that little part starting around 2:48. I think this album was a real turning point in Rush's career. Anyways.. always fun to watch you play. Keep posting!! Cya!
very nice good job have fun!

Man, nice work, but you are missing the dynamics ENTIRELY.
Listen and WATCH Neil play this one.
The opening is DYNAMIC. BAM....chase..chase....chase.....BAM!
It is NOT a constant run on the high hat...
BAM...chase it....chase it....chase it....
Overall great, but, the opening man is how the impact of RUSH prevails.

Good performance, accuracy and timing; however, if you take any advice: work on your fluidity! Relax! Listen to Neil Peart in A Work in Progress!
