@mari14b Hi Mari. The Northern lights can be seen in the northern hemisphere which means Norway, Finland, Sweden, Ialand, Alaska, Canada, Russia. But it can also sometimes be seen further south when the activity is high enough. Please check out his arcticles about the lights.

this dvd was such a fascinating and emotional journey i'd never watched anything like it. The moment Joanna finally finds her northern lights, and together with the Solveig's Song playing in the background completly captivated me, it truly was magical. I was once promised to be taken to see the northern lights by a very special person, hope i still get to see it, once in this lifetime.
It's Greig's, "Solveig's Song" from his Peer Gynt Suite. I had to modify the piece slightly to get it to fit the video. You can also get vocal versions. There are lots of examples on iTunes.
This was one of my favorite programmes of all time, just the most magical moment when Joanna gets her lifetimes wish to see the Norther Lights. I love everything that she does and respect her enormously for forcing the government to backdown regarding the wonderful Gurkha's disgusting treatment, she almost single handedly brought this about, what a feat!!!! What a woman!
She was great...She looked genuinely honoured to be there, seeing it. I thought that my heart was going to stop. Her reaction gave me a lump in my throat...Beautiful Beautiful Programme. x
Thanks for sharing this one. I went there in 2008, in the very same spot (was with the same guide as for her) and I will never forget what I saw. But the addition of the music puts this to another level.
There is something very wholesome and good about Joanna Lumley and this clip kind of typifies her style. I think we should feel very proud of the way she humiliated a cynical and out of touch Government for their completely immoral behaviour towards the Gurkhas. Thank goodness we still have a few people left like her in this country.
rivers of light in the night sky - so peaceful, amazing, moving -- like the last shot: clouds, aurora, stars -- layers of heaven going higher and farther - something I'd love to see live, but thanks for the video
You can find this same clip with the commentary on other postings. I thought to do it a bit differently though and highlight the music, as the visual effect is not anywhere near as good as on a bigger TV screen.
That's sweet of you but I had a very specific reason for wanting this particular scene. I am posting videos and picking favourites carefully, as a I'm try to pull a number of jigsaw pieces together.
I was so moved by this on tv, I don't know which was more sublime the northern lights or the music, I had never heard the piece before but it has now entered my soul. Had to trawl the internet before I found that it was Solvieg's Song from Grieg's Peer Gynt, You Tube did the rest !
I live in norway, is that the only country with "nordlyset", or is there other countries that got it? :)

A great video of one of the most fabulous phenomenas of nature.
You should have left the original commentary by Joanna Lumley, it was profoundly moving.
I watched but sadly didn't record this programme to get this moment.
She waited 60 years to see this and was profoundly moved as was most of the UK as Joanna is much loved and held in high regard.
I was so glad for her, as she said, "it's as if it new she need to see it", and we learnt how much she needed to see it.
Peace

I know what you mean, it was spectacular on TV but I forgot to record it.
That it is posted at all in any way is good.
The best things in life are free and at one and the same time priceless if you're without them.

I uploaded the whole documentary but was sadly forced to remove it after I got an email from the production company.
Message me and I'll send you download links for the full documentary if you like.
