@thejazzman1959 God wants to forgive, but people still have to earn it, thats why he gives many opportunities in life. Just because he wants to forgive, doesn't mean it is a free pass.

And about converting to Christianity. Christianity technically didn't exist until after Jesus' death. As a Jewish priest, he tried to remove the corruption from the Jewish church, and he died trying. Though he only had a small group of followers in his lifetime, his sacrifice gained the interest of many people.

Jesus died because he went against the Jewish priests whom he considered to be hypocrites and they demanded his execution by the Romans who held power at the time. So that is not the same as him dying for our sins which is what Christianity proclaims. My point was simply that it does not make sense for Jesus to have been crucified in order to facilitate forgiveness of our sins. That could have been achieved without his execution.

@thejazzman1959 It could have, but his sacrifice alone was able to achieve the intended purpose of spreading his teachings. From a rational point of view, Jesus cannot see the future and many people martyr themselves for a cause, Jesus was no different.

But for countless reasons, his sacrifice was able to bring hope to thousands of people. Whether or not he made the smartest decision isn't an issue. Many people see him as an all-knowing God, but I do not.

@thejazzman1959 those people learned more about him, and spread the news similar to how gossip spreads quickly. (keep in mind that he didn't choose to be crucified, he was persecuted for sticking to his beliefs). Of course his life was exaggerated, to make him seem like a magical man who could create unreal miracles and come back from the dead, but the wisdom and lessons he taught are invaluable and immortal.
