This is one of the very bad remakes that began popping up in theaters in the early 2000's. Thankfully I didnt see it. It has zero depth which seems to be the theme of this decade. Take movies that had deapth and character and produce useless throw away trash.
Don't be surprised if this gets "redone" at some point. The original concept was brilliant, as was the original film. The short story by Wm. Harrison is hard to find but worth the search.
Well, this movie was bad but not awful though. It wasn't pure remake. This movie was mix of Rollerball (1975) and FutureSport (1998). Rebecca Romijn looked awesome as brunette
The only improvement in this movie over the original was Paul Heyman over the ABC Hockey guy (who was great in the original). Chris Klein, rom-com lead, suddenly starring in an action movie? Please. James Caan has had bowel movements tougher than Klein. John Houseman > Jean Reno, John Beck > LL Cool J, and at least in the 70s we didn't pretend that a 100# woman would casually be able to destroy the top male athletes, twice her size, in a full contact sport.
Remember was hyped to see it then LET Down, very silly shower sceen in movie the girl was black out, her face was there, so I thought they didn't want to show her nude. Then on pay per view she was wearing a tank top?
I did like this movie, but it could have been a lot better. I think that they had the right cast, but most of the story was trash. I think they should have had it like the original where rollerball was worldwide and not just in russia. The time area was good but it could have taken place a little later into the future. And I think that the overall plot of the players standing up against Jean Reno's character needed to be written better as with script. I loved the Rob Zombie & P.O.D. music in it.
@Taimak77 What did the original eight conglomerates represent? I have forgotten some of them: Food, Health, Energy, Transportation, Communications, Luxury, Housing ("Sport", or "War", I don't know)
