great song, wish it wasn't so obscure and forgotten, it seems to be that the adult contemporary styled pop hits from the early 1980s seem to fallen into obscurity.
@Doobie1975 You're right too many of these gems as well as ones from the 70's have slipped into obscurity. I spent 15 years as a mobile DJ, and there was this one bar, where every week I would play what I called a "Forgotten Single" and I played this one night, just about everyone said "I haven't heard this in like forever" eventually they wanted me to do an entire night of forgotten gems.
radio has been a friend to me way back elementary years... im 32 right now and everytime this song is played... cant help but sing along....its the intro song of one of the dj esp during request hour
I remember hearing this song a lot on the station I was listening to at the time right out of college. It sure did fall into obscurity. I was trying to tell some friends about it and no one I ever talked to had ever heard of it. I'm glad to hear this now so there's proof! Thanks for posting.
I hadn't heard this song since 1980 (!) but for some reason it was in my head, so I thought I'd look it up on youtube. Now I realize why I remembered it -- it's a darn pretty song!
This song was available on Radio Daze: Hits of the 1980s Vol. 2 which is sadly now out of print, this song features hit songs that was released from early to mid 1980 and I consider 1980 to be the most underrated year of 80s music.
@Doobie1975 A very underrated (as well as interesting) year in music, when you considered what was down the road in a few years, in terms of changing technology and a changing industry. Personally, I don't know why this LP wasn't a bigger hit here in the U.S. back then.
@rayjr62 I know music has changed drastically from 1980 to sometime around 1983-84 and it's like night and day, this song was fairly successful when it first came out (reaching #13 on Billboard) but quickly fell into obscurity
@Doobie1975 I agree, but that wasn't what I was talking about. I was talking about (1) the advent of the Compact Disc and (2) the entrance of the "bean counters" into the music industry, and the pushing out of the old school music biz types.
Oldies is better than newies! 'coz, nowadays, people don't recognize old songs anymore! But, for me, Oldies are more beautiful and real than newies......
@scelastar That's a good question, all this time of listening to this song over and over again, I never considered that. I always thought it was some kind of (disco) lighting effect to simulate the late 70's and early 80's timeline.
I've had this in my head for a couple of decades. I haven't heard it for that long. I always thought it was by Linda Rondstadt (I was a kid when it was popular). It sounds a little different than what was in my head all those years. Mainly the accent. I really dig it.
@randyraysides - I always thought the Starland Vocal Band did it because they were coming out with their songs like Afternoon Delight, etc at the same time. At least we have Youtube to figure these things out!
I loved old radio programs & collected old recordings. In the early days of radio the stations would sing their call letters and jingles in four square harmony, as the song alludes to in its chorus. When Pilot came out, I lived it for this very reason. My 5-year*old daughter would sing along and sometimes we'd sing a duo w/ me on guitar. So I remember this song fondly for more that one reason! Love you, 'leen ken/Houston 4/13/2011
I loved old-time radio, though its days were almost gone when I was born. The radio stations would sing their call letters and jingles in harmony, as the song's great chorus alludes to. When my daughter was 5 and I'd play this record, she'd sing along. Now, every time I hear this song I think about that little girl and the fun and good times we had!!! ken/ Houston 4/13/2011 Love you, 'leen!
YES!!! Thank you for posting this song! I couldn't find it anyplace else. I remember this song when I was a kid before mowing the lawn one day, it was the first time I had to mow the lawn as a chore. It was a beautiful day just after another Minnesota winter ended and this mellow and soothing song made it easier to mow the lawn.
Oh, and as long as I have my Billboard Hot 100 book with me... this song came out in 1980, debued the week of 2/23 and it was #13. It should have been #1.
I was 24-years-old. Although I usually either like a song right off or I don't like it at all, this one is sort of rare for me, because I absolutely fell in love with it the very first time I ever heard it, and I've been in love with that gorgeous harmony ever since. thank you for posting this. I am like some of the other commenters here, and have searched for this song for a long time.
I agree with dustymiller65 I was 15 also, I use to hear it on the radio in Camden,Arkansas, being a black guy, the guys ribbed me hard, but I did not care, when I started out as a DJ, that was my intro.
If I close my eyes, I'm back home, it's morning time, and I'm 15 yrs. old. I'm getting ready for highschool, anticipating the start and promise of a brand new day! I can see the brilliant but warm morning sunlight streaming through the window in my parent's room where the stereo is playing this song. The song was very mellow when played on the stereo. The a cappella bass voice was booming, both at the beginning of the song and at the end. This song will always be calming and soothing to me! Thx.
@sw00p99 *Dusty stands in line, right behind sw00p99, also with all worldly possessions, hoping to be next to go back in time to the best time of my life!*
I also remember listening to Dick Biondi on the radio on Magic 104.3 in Chicago for the first 18 years of my life while growing in suburbban Illinois. I now live in Arizona. It's always an pleasure to hear his name mention for a chance to remember that guy. Great memories.
Yep Dick talks about those times in L.A. here sometimes. He always mentios the first time The Beatles came to the West Coast and he introduced them to the West Coast very cool stories
Larry Lujack what a guy I think of alot of those DJ's from that era Brant Miller Fred Winston, Tommy Edwards, Dick Biondi wasnt back in Chicago yet Don Jeronimo So many good ones
Its so great that i could find this song! I was 11 yrs old and played this song on a juke box while trying to wow a cute girl. It brings back wonderous moments of youth.

my thoughts are with u on this one 'i'm also in the care side off things ..i love song i play this song on the way home it just makes my day....bliss.scotland.

This rocks! This is the actual version we used to hear on the radio with the acapella ending! Been dying to hear this version. None of the other vids had this one. Wish there was music like this on the airwaves now. Loved the music of the 70's and 80's. 90's not so much and current stuff sux! Awesome harmonies and actual talent! What a concept!
Sing it, Charlene!
