  • Thank you so much for giving credit to the composer of this song. Dorothy Love Coates is a major figure in the spread of gospel and women group leaders and gospel composers. Thank you posting this. What year was this recorded?

  • Thank you Jesus for Dorothy Love Coates for such a blessing in my life . I remember here in Indpls she was her for Robert Turner anniverary and the spirit hit me when she was singing . I took off running and praising God . Good gospel music is not the same .

  • To God be the glory for loaning us Dorothy Love Coates for a season. We give honor to God first as the creator of the universe and to Dorothy Loves Coates for allowing the Creator to use her to create these beautiful songs. We give honor to whom honor is due. So many people took advantage of Ms. Love Coates. As she said, "What you don't know, people don't bother to tell you". But She had jesus and "That's Enough".

  • This is where it is 'cause this is where it's at. If she were here today, I would say sang sistah, sang. I do look forward to meeting JESUS and all of GOD's Children in that city Built Four Square.

  • My Name is David of The Gospel Stylistics. And We Love Dorothy And The Love Coates' Shes A Messenger Of God In Songs. And Shes Own The Other Side Of Jordan. GOD Has Bless Her And Anointed her Beautiful Voices To Sing GOD's PrISES, PS.And We Love. And I David Martin You To,

  • Do have a recording of DLC and the Harmonettes doing the Gospel Train. I loved how they named the different citeis and artist getting board the train. If you do can you post?

  • @gospellover2 Specialty Records has a cd with her recordings when she was on that label in the 50s. I believe the song you are looking for is on that cd.

  • @herschelzboy I have that set of cd's. It's not on that collection. It was on here for a brief moment but I don't know who posted it. Thanks for your reply....

  • Mississippi borrow from a lot of old songs!

  • THANK YOU WITH MY WHOLE HEART for puttin my aunt Dorothy on YouTube! You can only imagine what it was like growing up amongst THIS KIND OF GOSPEL GREATNESS...C U soon T, much love!--from Her only niece from Cali!

  • Gospel songs tell about our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Who sang or wrote it is of no importance to God. Is it bringing glory to His name? Is it a tool to save souls? What a joy when we all get to Heaven. CAN I GET AN AMEN?

  • @TheMICHELL54

    AMEN!!!

  • @TheMICHELL54 I agree to a certain extent. I have a group that I have been singing with for 33 years. All of our songs were done by other groups like The Soul Stirrers, Swan Silvertones, Dixie Hummingbirds, etc. Our mission is to keep these songs around and honor these groups who paved the way and not let their names be forgotten. It's one thing to sing their songs but I think it is wrong to take credit for a song that is not yours. All I say is Give credit where credit is due. Dot deserved it.

  • @herschelzboy I agree with you 'cause she really does but I never even thought about who wrote that song when I heard it sung by Mississippi Mass Choir. I just loved those lyrics and the spirit of the person who led the song. Every once in a while I'll say "Who wrote that song?!"

Mainly because I feel that I could've because of my personal experience. When it comes to Gospel I give God all the Glory and I hope Christians would acknowledge the original creator of these masterpieces. Be blessed.

  • @TheMICHELL54 You are absolutely right, God IS the Author and He ultimately deserves all the praise.

  • @herschelzboy I just wanted to say AMEN to giving credit to where credit is due. Anyone can see and hear that Sister Dorothy Love Coates worked hard for hers. This is true and I agree no one should try to steal that.

  • I Love Hearing That Soprano In The Back Ground. Thank You Jesus They All Have Beautiful Voices.

  • When listening to a song like this you realize how deep and real the singer is singing and feel that the worlds are comming from the bottom of the heart.

    APAC

  • Mississippi Mass can't top this.

  • Hello ole gospel lovers. Does anyone know what happen to the "Gospel Train" song that the gospel harmonettes sung. I believe that's the name of the song? I enjoyed that post and would like to know if it will be reposted. Thanks...

  • Mama Burk almost sound like DLC

  • PRAISE GOD

  • To all of you I would suggest that we not argue over what is and is not of the word. We know that the heart of God is Love and if the message is sound to the cause of Christ birth, death, burial and resurrection we ought to be more understanding.

The other major factor is that meaning who claim to know the word, have no concrete studies in the Latin from which it was translated or the Hebrew before that. Comforter was not original for Holy Spirit, but Paraclete, which can also mean Keeper.

  • The scripture "Judge not" is talking about looking down on others ....not checking songs for dpctrinal soundness

  • I sent you a message..Peace.

  • That scripture is talking about hypocritical judging. It goes on to say "for by the same measure which ye judge, shall ye be judged."

To judge also means to discern. God gives christians a discerning spirit, which if we didn't have, satan would devour us whole. So therefore, some amount of judging is necessary and also justified. The bible says "a tree shall be known by the fruit it bears." Today you have many talking the talk, but not truly walking the walk. That's who Jesus was addressing.

  • i dont remember gabriel being a choir director and there being concerts to be LISTENED to, in heaven...in the bible...where did she get this from?

  • Celebration imagination and poetic license.

  • i dont emember God giving us poetic license with the content of HIS word

  • You are a wise. I don't remember everything I read in HIS word. I don't know everything about God. I don't understand everything that I read in HIS word. "The Bible is an accommodation of Divine truths to human minds: God the infinite communicating with man the finite. We must be careful, then, not to push accommodating language about God and His nature to literal extremes. God does not have feathers and wings; nor is He our Father in the same sense our earthly father is." Robert Homme.

  • @ManofChrist101...I DO remember God telling us in His WORD: Judge not Lest ye be Judged....Now go and get a life and leave artistry alone!!!

  • I wasnt being jusgemental..but it is misleading when a singer clearly makes up an event which is not said to happen in the Bible.........

  • The entire notion of "Gospel" music is in and of itself a faux pas..inspirational nonetheless, but rathe, the Gospel is the good news of Jesus Christ not songs. This is why I referred to it as artistry; no different than any other music. So when we call inspirational music Gospel music, we actually bring undo stress on ourselves because we actually believe that God commissioned it when he didnt. Does'nt mean people can't be creative. Additionally, they don't have to rely on the bible.

  • they are accountable for doctrinal soundness because in the construc of a church, songs are used as a tool to minister to others, and if you are ministering you must be doctrinally sound.....Gospel is different from other musics in that it is not meant to be used for profit but the exhaultation of God.

  • Emphasis on "Church". Inspirational music is not unique to the church. If anyone wanted to, they could take a luther vandross song and say that they are singing it to God; does that mean this person is blasphemous??? no it doesnt. "Let everthing that has breath praise ye the Lord" there's no litmos test as to what/how a praise maybe. Just becuase we added a name to this type of music doesnt make it more accountable than any other music. It really boils down to the heart and creativism.

  • this music is in the contex of the christian church and if we want to break suff down get this : SINGING IS THE SAME AS TALKING JUST WITH A RYTHM TO IT. so it would be wrong for someone to TELL OTHERS, SOMETHING THATS NOT IN THE BIBLE, THAT EQUALS LYING............so there is not creativity of content, the content is the Word of God, not some abstract concept u mention.....and no offense but you sound like your either not a christian or someone with shaky faith.

  • no offense taken..."Context"?!?! this is the main problem for us so-called Christians, we want to put God in a context or a box...dont you know that God cannot be bound by our meager understanding of his word? Just because you have a notion of what a "real" Christian should sound like does'nt mean you are right..Proverbs: A man sees right in his own eyes but in the end is death... we must spend more time telling people how much Jesus loves them instead of critiquing them each other!

  • ok no disrespect but the problem with your argument is that you ignore that there are some CONCRETE things about GOD which are revealed in HIS WORD which are unmutable, and must be obeyed, understood and taught, while we dont know everything about God, the things in the WORD we DO know and are responsible for obeying them......and critique shouldnt be the only tool used but it is neccesary when people say unsound things

  • 2 Timothy 4:2 says

Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.

  • Does gospel music not spread the word... the good news from the bible... Gospel music is the good news of christ in music form. it is artistry but it is more than just that... to say that it is no different than any other music is false... it simply means that gospel music has not ministered to you as it has to others...

  • i dont remember the bible saying the holy ghost is a keeper but people still say it.... nowhere in the bible does is it say exactly Hallelujah but people still say it (alleluia is though) nowhere does it say when the praises go up blessings come down but people still say it. when writing a song people have the right to add what they want without saying its in the bible. so by poetic license he meant you can put what you want its your song! and plus shes saying something bad about heaven,

  • 1)the Holy Ghost being a keeper John 14:16

    2) the hallelujah argument is a mute issue because the words hallelujah means "praise ye the lord" which is in Psalm 150

    3) i agree with yoiu that the "praises go up and blessings come down" concept is unbiblical because whether or not God blesses us is not contingent on how much we praised him cus theres plently people for whom Jesus died that have yet to praise Him once.

my point is if you are ministering in a Biblical context like a church

  • it has to be biblical....the song the choir sings has just as much wieght as the words of the evangelist or the prayer of the deacon...if you are going to minister to somebody it has to be sound and it has to be biblical

  • by keeper i mean keep you from sin

  • Do you not feel Gods wonderful power , every time I sing praises or give praises the Lords Blessings do come down , Glory Halleujah are God is so wothy to be praised for he is Holy.

  • this is HOT!! I love it!!!

  • I'll never forget this came out in 1979 the year I went to the army and it was my saving grace...kept me out of a lot of trouble having Miss Dot wit me in the service. My favorite off the album is "Open the Door" pure Dorothy Love Coates

  • This is absolutely marvelous. First of all I thought Mississippi Mass originated this song, and to find out the Angelic voice behind this song is Dorothy Coates, wow!

I had never even heard of her until today. I wonder what other songs she has originated to have it recreated by others.

Personally, it really doesn't matter who sings the song. I just always thought Mississippi Mass were unique.

  • can't nobody sing this song like dorothy love coates, my pesonally opinion. lol

  • THANK YOU I LOVE YOU cutepreacher

  • I often wonder why The Mississippi Mass choir didn't ask Dorothy Love Coates to lead on this song? We as Blacks just don't help each other enough. Rest in Peace (my Friend)Dorothy Love Coates.

  • you must have read what i thought when I heard their version! lol That would have been absolutely great. guess theres a reason for everything though! I Miss Mama Dot too

  • i thought dot had done passed on by the time mississippi mass redid it?

  • I love dorothy love coates and her group they were powerful singers and they sung from there heart and soul I'm 37 years old and this kind of gospel I grew up on and even though shes with the lord know here music is still a blessing to my soul. I thank God for you dorothy what a blessin you are. this makes me want to shout. if you dont know the lord you will when you here this song praise God.

  • if only dorothy could have met up with della reese and sang something together....

  • and i'l do a lil holy dance and i'll do a lil holy dance great god almighty i'm caught my self doing a lil holy dance and i'm at work

    GLORY!!!!!!

  • This is the original with the anointing. This is priceless!

  • i am 27 i grew up to this kind of music at my grandma house i like the beat too

  • I am 20 and I LOVE Dorothy Love-Coats, James Cleveland and the CARAVANS! Praise him!

  • excuse you 111mississippi,

you said "mmass turned nothing into something" the fact that they copied this song is an indication that it is indeed "something". This is a legendary group that you obviously don't know anything about. Dorothy Love Coates wrote this song and she and the group are anointed.

  • I don't think he said it was a nothing. it's a great song regardless who sang it.

  • If your don't hear the Holy Ghost in this there something wrong with you. The truth is lots of folks, Black and White, stole Dorothy Love coates songs and arrangements. Miss. Mass stole this song.

  • Mississippi Mass never stole this song. It was used with permission. Read something before you go poppin off like that.

  • Amen I agree. The Mississippi Mass Choir would never do that. Everything is copyrighted. So the record companies will research it first b4 anyone remakes a song.

  • Mississippi Mass did not steal this song; they used it with permission. Have you seen or heard of any lawsuits from Mrs. Love-Coates regarding this song. Please stop popping of without checking sources. Evangelist Dorothy Love-Coates and the Original Gospel Harmonettes is the version I like. As a matter of fact I taught it to our Men's Choir and they wiped out the church. Whoooweee this is a powerful song. They got the word.

  • I would like for you all to do your research. Dorothy Love -Coates had a major issue with the fact that the song was not credited to her in the liner notes - which is a fact. The record company said they thought the song was in the Public Domain (even tho they hold the copyright.) However, the the record company fixed this problem and began to pay her royalties. They also did "Holding ON" as a tribute to her, but she had passed away before hearing it.
