  • I have to say, the best song ever?

  • Brian Wilson's voice is magical.

  • In the UK Pet Sounds is considered as one of the greatest albums ever made...

  • Sir Paul Mc Cartney admitted that the Beatles would have been unable to make "Sergent pepper.." if pet sounds hadn't existed

  • Shadowleggy anyone?

  • Heard this on the ending of 'Love Actually' As soon as they started playing I knew it were the Beach Boys!

  • genius

  • idk i think im related to all of them somehow

  • Im related to The Beach Boys through my grandpa Bob

  • @haleyjeanhedges which one?

  • Comment removed

  • Pet Sounds is the perfect album

  • all of u guys might be fighting whos better- beach boys or beatles- but u have to remember that both of their sounds are unique and it doesnt matter whos better becuase they are still better then todays music even after 40 some years

  • the beach boys stimulate pleasure chemicals in my brain

  • the song is on dewerelddraaitdoor.nl on the date of today.

as the best song ever written

  • The best song ever.

  • ....How could you NOT love this song...I think it's like heaven...

  • brian wilson is a musical genius

  • this is defintely carl singing...

  • I always hear the pet sounds-sgt peppers-smile talk and I'm amazed at how many people (including themselves) overlook the fact that revolver and summer days were their best albums. I hope people don't blow off ok computer and focus on kid a 30 years from now.

  • One of the most beautiful songs ever written. I would have to agree with Brian, the melody and chord progression of this song is unmatched and just flows so well.

  • except that brian wilson is god, sooooo

  • why do u look for approval music is art and if u see it u see it if u don't u don't

  • i was sober ask me?

  • anyway, I love the Beatles and Pet Sounds

  • What I love about this love song is that it doesn't have to be about a significant other. You can dedicate it to a family member or a friend, or really anybody whose made a positive change in your life.

    Really perfect.

  • is really that necessary compare it to another bands and musics ? come on guys what about just listen to the video ? I'm not from england or usa I think both country has problems, good things and sad moment because that's the meaning of life did ever stop and thought "I have two arms and two legs and I can breath without any help from a machine,if even I had I still could be happy or just one leg because I'M ALIVE,think about it

  • @AaNnGgEeLl55

i agree and disagree but who cares. Beatles and Beach Boys are the best band groups all time.

  • Can't get enough of this song... So simple and beautiful

  • like this comment if you think this is better than yesterday dislike if you think yesterday is better

  • Is that Eli Manning @2:17?

  • Being raised by an abusive and tyrranical father, being contolled by "emotional gangsters" his entire life, heavy drugs nearly shattering his mind, his masterpiece record SMiLE being shot down by Mike "Douchebag" Love, the death of his two brothers, divorcing his first wife and barely speaking to his children, being leeched of his money by his dishonest therapist...

...and Brian Wilson is still a good time guy, still rocking and rolling, and pleasing everyone while hiding his own emotions...

  • Seen Brian in pasadena in 2007 and was treated to the beach boys greatest hits

He had about 10 people in his new band and it was pretty good.

We went again 2009 at Wiltern in Hollywood and had front row and got the set list.

  • if no rubber soul no pet sounds, no pet sounds, no sgt. peppers. they challenged each other and made some of the best music epic this album is second to only Sgt. pepper in my opinion anyway....

  • Pet Sounds is still one of my most loved Albums, Brian your a true Genius

  • Big Love!

  • it.

  • send the beachboys to Vietnam...

  • Beautiful, beautiful song - absolutely perfect...

  • great song by the way

  • John Lennon said that the Beach Boys' "Pet Sounds" is one of the best albums ever made, and I would have to agree.

  • @kjd522 no i think it was Paul that said that but i would agree very very good album

  • @kjd522 Yeah,Paul McCartney has said in many interviews that if not for Pet Sounds, there would've never been a Sgt. Pepper's.

  • @Colin0513

but no rubber soul, then no pet sounds.......umm....Beatles still won. :)

  • @Dramactica Yeah,I'll buy that. However, one of the songs that helped to influence Rubber Soul was California Girls. Now one of the great things about that period of 1965-1966 was how The Beatles and The Beach Boys/Brian Wilson kind of pushed each other to make better music.

  • @kjd522 So did McCartney, he said it was THE best album ever made. He also said God Only Knows is his favorite song.

  • @kjd522 Lennon was on Heroin

  • @Syzygy60 ...and on heroin he created better music than you will ever. I think I'd take his opinion on good music long before I'd take yours... heroin or no heroin.

Some of the best artists in the world say "Pet Sounds" is one of the best albums of all time.

  • @Syzygy60

    He wasn't on Rubber soul.

  • @kjd522 Rubber Soul was the inspiration for Pet Sounds.

  • @kjd522 IF JOHN LENNON SAY IT ITS TRUE!!!!!!!

    <3

  • @kjd522 Paul said its his favorite album of all time. Brian made Pet sounds partly to try and outdo the Beatles and he ended up making an all time great and getting John and Paul to love it. Thats pretty awesome

  • @kjd522 oh hell yes, only behind sgt peppers

  • @kjd522 Paul Mccartney also said that Sgt Pepper was The Beatles's attempt at trying to match Pet Sounds. And that without Pet Sounds there wouldn't be a Sgt Pepper.

  • i know it's a stupid question, but what is this song is about. like i kind of get that if she left him, he'd miss the crap out of her, but is he saying he's be okay with it?

  • @dgial1992 I think the song is about a 'healthy' relationship.Sure, he'd be gutted if he left her, but life does still goes on. He just can't imagine how his life would be. What a relationship should be minus insecurity etc.

  • @87JenR okay that makes sense

  • @87JenR Wait so hes saying god only knows what id be without you but hey if you left id be ok, seems contradictory and at the same time a bit dickish but just enough to sound cocky and not arrogant...i like it

  • This song makes me cry. Love it!

  • Brian sings lead??? It is well documented that Carl Wilson sang lead on this wonderfull song.

  • @4thstooge...You apparently didn't read the header on this!

Brian Wilson originally intended to sing lead vocal on 'God Only Knows' but in the end he sacrificed the lead vocal to his brother Carl: "Well, I thought I was gonna do it. As the song progressed, I said, 'Hey, I feel kind of natural doing this.' But when we completed creating the song, I said my brother Carl will probably be able to impart the message better than I could, so I sacrificed that one. But he had a good time singing it."

  • @4thstooge read the posters notes on this....Brian orig intended to sing lead, but eventually conceded to Carl...thought he would better "impart the message" of the song..

  • @glueforall Your right, Title is misleading.Poster should change it.

  • read when this album came out the beatles listened to it and Lennon and Mcartney said "wow" and were intimidated some

  • thanks brian...

  • Parts of this song musically reminds of 'And I Love Her'.

  • @ar4216 Brian Wilson´s life IS in a movie. It´s name is "An American Family".

    Great actors.

  • This is one of the best song ever written by american band. Please check out my youtube channel and my cover of this song there which is bit different from original and other covers. Cheers!

  • Love Actually! <3

  • That was SCORNED not scored...haaa

  • Love Actually <3

  • this song is enough to realise that your life is comlete. I wish i had played this to my ex

  • This is my (one of my) favorite songs Brian did. Getting deeper into the meaning of

the songs. Pet Sounds is a wonderful album.

  • I'll probably debate whether Sgt. Pepper's (Beatles) or Pet Sounds is the greatest album of all time.

I really can't decide. Both albums are masterpieces.

  • @metalisback i always say pet sounds coz in my opinion it seems alot more sincere and froom the heart than pepper

  • Wow, reading the commentary on this page would lead you to believe it wasn't the most beautiful song ever written. Lighten up folks and enjoy.

  • ok q bien

  • such a beautiful song! Check out Tony Clef's solo guitar version on youtube.

Interesting comments here - I think both men and women are afraid of showing any kind of dependence and tenderness these days.

  • I want this version of the song SO BAD!

  • Why would anyone listen to this song and dislike it!?

  • @SIGNATURESOUNDZ maybe they're a mike love fan

  • @SIGNATURESOUNDZ Because they disliked the song.

  • <3 this song this is my favorite Beach Boys song :)

  • here because of a Wonder Years episode.....Sooo good!

  • my Dad loves these guys even has some classic albums here

  • Paul McCartney's favorite Album...

  • I'm kind of the new to the beach boys. are all of them still alive? because the last I heard they were which is great. I love these guys their music is really beautiful.

  • @pieeip4775 no, dennis and carl are dead and al is retired from associating with the beachboys. mike and bruce still tour, but mike's voice ain't worth a shit anymore. i'd recommend seeing a brian wilson concert. saw him perform smile live in '04 and it was great. and if you intrested, these bb albums are worth a listen: today!, sunflower, summer days and summer nights, smiley smile(it's a little strange but it's what became of smile),all summer long, and pacific ocean blue(dennis wilson solo).

  • Love Actually, anyone?

  • I don't even plan on getting married, but if I were to, this would be my wedding song.

  • I love to see Brian with his bass in his hands .....

  • Actually Paul Mccartneys favorite song :D

  • @nirvanafannr1 You may be mistaken, though he loved the album. McCartney's favorite song is "Bridge Over Troubled Water"

  • @chingchangchongfly Paul once said that God Only Knows is his favorite song.

  • @chingchangchongfly Bridge Over Troubled Water won song of the year over Let It Be. This might have been 1970.

  • Real music! :)

  • There are definitely 149 idiots in the world. How can you not like this song.

  • @shannajasmine Sorry a 153 idiots the worlds stupid population is growing.

  • @ghylltarvoke your comment would make that 154

  • @ghylltarvoke

They're too busy listening to Lady Antebellum and that garbage.

  • @ghylltarvoke noooo, only some people with different kind of taste !! there's nothing wrong with that, is there?

  • HUH... and i thought ellie goulding sang this

  • INCOMPLETE........YOU COMPLETE ME MY LOVE......

  • "God Only Knows" my life has been so sad without

you David. It's been years without you.

  • @desert3347 You probably made his life more magical than it ever would have been had you not been in his world. David may be gone, but the memories that you have both shared will live on forever.

  • @AndrewOfHell Thanks for the "kind" words. I'll remember that always.

  • @desert3347 Your welcome =)

  • I SANG THIS FOR CHOIR :L

  • All your comments are all so fucking immature,,from page one to whatever!!!! The Beach Boys were the real deal,;.....the only alternative to the Beatles....or do you all smell like piss....you all sound like educated idiots, who dont know fuck-all about music

  • All your comments are all so fucking immature,,from page one to whatever!!!! The Beach Boys were the real deal,;.....the only alternative to the Beatles....or do you all smell like piss....you all sound like educated idiots

  • Best BB there is.

  • CARL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @ArtemisFlyingV It's Brian.

  • @dumbangel21 I know, I love Brian to death and all, but Carl made this song enchantingly beautiful with his voice. Brian's voice lacks that beauty. Brian's voice is an experimental voice. That's why I'd rather have Brian sing SMiLE songs like Surf's Up, Good Vibrations and Cabin essence instead of Carl who's voice is meant for more straight and narrow songs.

  • Songs like this prove to me that all the great songs have all been written. The same is true for literature, film, TV, science, philosophy...sigh, am I depressed or what.

  • I listen to this song at least 10 times everyday!

  • p.s.i adore this song...its one of the best songsever written :-)

  • .....this songs words were so true before feminism took over women and made them totally unlike our mothers. Its such a shame that in 2011 I could never imagine singing this song about a woman, where as a woman of the 60s or before often deserved the words of this song. Lyrics for 2011 should be changed to "God Only know how lucky i am to be without you".Once upon a time women use to be the making of a man....now they are the breaking of a man.....Women today ruin men period !!

  • @jonty9999 Damn women and their rights *rolls eyes*

  • @jonty9999 : great !!! i'm italian...i'm agree with you 200%...great

  • @jonty9999 Ive been through three divorces got basically a fist up my ass,but the reality is saying all women are "c**&Nt$" is like saying all chinese people cant drive all east Indian ppl smell like curry,Americans are all mongoloids that got ass kicked by The Canadians when Canada became a Country…now it is true Canada beat the US in every War we have fought and would today as we control all the oil and natural resources including water. But are you helping your wounded self by generalizing?

  • @jonty9999 Thats not true, I swear. Not only me, every woman I know would LOVE to hear those words, and I wasn't brought up to be oldfashioned.

  • @jonty9999 wow you're a bit jaded, let that anger towards women of today and Feminism go. Who ever broke your heart isn't responsible for your happiness, you are... This song still stands today as it was written then, women haven't changed and neither have men, the times changed...

  • @jonty9999 Not always bro.

  • @jonty9999 wow this is really offensive and sexist.

  • @jonty9999 You much of been scored by one...what's your story?

  • @jonty9999 dude its okay half of us have probly had there heart brocken a couple times, its oky you dont have to blame feminism. no shut the fuck up your killing the vibes of the song

  • @jonty9999

You are old and will soon die. Alone.

  • @jojowas1000

Thanks !! Such kind words !!

  • @jonty9999 I've never thought about it that way, but you are so right! Fuck feminism

  • @jonty9999 it is so different with me. i love one man and one man alone and i offered him my whole heart, my whole life. i love him so much my one desire is to live for him and give him whatever he wants or needs but he walked away from me because im not "physically attractive" to him. i will never love any other man and i will wait for him hoping one day he will realize he can travel this entire planet and never find a woman who would love him the way i will. i may be one in a billion

  • @kristadanielle1225 why wait for someone who cannot see what is blatently obvious to the rest of the world sweetheart, you are 1 in a billion but not to him if he walked away from you, just because he did'nt find you physically attractive does'nt mean no-one else will and if looks are the most important thing to him then maybe he is not the right person for you, physical desire is not a strong enough base for a long term relationship so just hold on mr right could be just an e-mail away

  • @kristadanielle1225

yeah and he'll find many that he feels are better than you so wait all you want

dont think your soooo great that your 1 in a billion, and if I can give you some more advise,

dont waste your time thinking that he was even worth you, because in the end dating and

people in general will let you down, just go have some fun with some people and have an

    enjoyable life....

  • @jonty9999 What a dick thing to say, you practically ruin a great song with such stupidity. You wont ever find a girl to love with that shitty attitude, nor do you deserve one. I bet you're a real "nice guy", so I wouldn't worry... except for that whole "poor me, complain on a Beach Boys video" thing you've got going on. Fucking wanker.

  • @jonty9999 What a shame Jonty. It;s sad you have been broken by a woman, but if someone treats us badly it's because we let them. Next time don't let it happen. Walk away and find someone better. Plenty of fish in the sea.

  • @jonty9999 I'm a woman and I couldn't agree more. I have 2 teenage daughters and they were lamenting how feminine and glorified women were in the 50's and 60's (ala, old movies and shows like Pan Am and The Playboy Club). Doors were held open, chairs were pulled out, men stood when a woman entered a room. Feminism has killed that kind of relationship between men and women (for the most part) Oh well, ladies....you get what you deserve.

  • It makes me teary-eyed.

  • Brian does this well but I'm glad Carl sang it. He kind of had THE voice for it.

  • 2:23 eli manning...

  • singing this in my county youth choir, so glad :D

  • Amber7: How very romantic (and I'm a guy).

I grew up in Southern California and the Beach Boys were background music during summer nights. As I drove down the street, I could hear Brian, Carl, Dennis, Mike, and Al everywhere.

Seems a civil time compared with now.

  • While I grew up on (And still prefer) their car and surfing songs, ANY BB fan enjoys their love songs as well. This type of music is MUCH better than the garbage my generation plays. I have always, and will always be a BB fan. I just wish that some disecting of their greatest tunes would surface

  • @JTheGuitarPlayer Never gonna happen. I was there...it was awesome!

  • classic

  • Pet sounds rules all!!

  • I think i vomited a little in my mouth when reading the top rated comment 0_0

  • sooooooo cute......

  • Let's meet on another classic BB song!

  • I agree with you MattHatter! BUT the time, of both musical groups did very well at expirimenting with recording sounds! And better or not, it all came to grow, more than just a painting, which sits still! There should be no room here for negativity!

    On this sight! Oh, Well....................

  • Ummmmm......... this is Carl singing. It's an early vocal take, before he'd mastered the breathy delivery, the phrasing, etc. But it's Carl Wilson singing the lead, for sure. Brian pops up on falsetto during the outro, though, as usual.

  • brian sing just like the angesl!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Brian Wilson- held captive by mental illness, mental health problems are not a "made up" health problem.

  • I could listen to this song until the day the day I die.

  • Brian's lead is good on this too. Not as soft and angelic as Carl but still awesome. Carl's voice comes off as an adult trying to put forth his romantic feelings and Brian comes off more like an optimistic young boy with a heavy dose of "puppy love."

  • @Strictlybodacious While what you said is incredibly offensive, the beach boys were White.

  • Totally awesome no matter who sings lead.

  • Pet sounds was the Beach Boys answer to the Beatles Revolver and the Beatles then reponded with Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts club Band!

  • @USCTROJANFAN1000 No that is not true. It was Rubber Soul that inspired Pet Sounds, not Revolver. Brian told that in various interviews.

  • @RobinB84 It gets confusing. The Beatles released Rubber Soul in 1965. BW thought the album was great and wanted to answer it - an album of all really good songs. He starts working on Pet Sounds. In the meantime the Beatles start working on Revolver. Pet Sounds comes out in the UK (1966) a week or two before Revolver. PS gets sort of sidelined. BW starts the Smile project as a response to Revolver and is beat to the punch by Sgt. Pepper. He then gives up and Smiley Smile comes out later.

  • Comment removed

  • @USCTROJANFAN1000 Ok thats right my bad! i knew it was either one

  • Pet Sounds: One of the three things I want to take with me on a lonely island. A masterpiece and one of the three most important albums of all times!

  • Wonderful music!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Carol Kaye on bass!
