"you put the CD in the deck while driving on a freeway...then CRANK IT UP ;)"
lol. And when the cop pulls you over for speeding and hears it, he lets you off.
No shit. Love these guys...they had all these guys but with Tony Rice and Mark Schatz on bass at Merefest, but this is still the most amazing collection of musicians in the history of evar.
I have listened to this at least one hundred times, This group is such a pleasure to watch and hear, they all seem to be in such harmony with each other and doing a phenomenal job... I absolutely Love this!
Yes this melody was performed by Jon McLaughlin in the early seventies on visions of the emerald beyond they do it justice I'm surprised that credits are not listed
@truebrightdreamer It's a double bass, but he plays (very well) high up on the neck. Edgar Meyer is a freak of nature, as are each of the other guys. This might have been the single most talented American band to ever take the stage. Each guy (with the possible exception of Bush) could make a credible claim to be the "best" player in American folk music history on his instrument. More than that, they all listen to each other and play music, not just notes.
I got to see those guys four or five times, first as the 'Nashville Masters' about 20 years ago. Really miss seeing them all together, still love seeing them solo and in various combinations.
I've seen all these guys live, together and separately, at the Strawberry Music Festival in California. It's nice to see this and have my good memories revived. Thanks for posting!
The "Strength in Numbers" Band was so awesome! I can't believe that they only made one CD! (Thank God I have that!) Oh, one more thing you should know: Bela turns "50" on 10 July'08! If you want to send him a B-day card...here's the address: David Bendett Artists, Inc., 2431 Briarcrest Rd., Beverly Hills, CA 90210. (This is Bela's Manager and he will see that he gets it) Thanks!
Geeze... I filmed Edgar's concert at the Blair School of Music a few years back. He was absolutely awesome. Much better listening than this. It was Just him and a female pianist. Unfortunately, I was stupid one night and I filmed over the entire thing. Aaargh!!! Ouch. That really hurts.
the greatest north american music.....the best (I have the record for many years)
thanks for the live video..thanks so much

This is a John Mclaughlin song from visions of Emeralds and Beyond. Very good.
jgiuffra1 1 year ago
@jgiuffra1 No it's not by John McLaughlin. This song was written by Bela Fleck and Edgar Meyer, but I agree that it is very good.
scmm42 1 year ago 4
@scmm42 Theyshould pay some royalties to John McLaughlin, because the similarity is more than a coincidence.

I've found precious little sound so superlatively surreal as this piece, executed in masterful craft.

Mark O'Connor is freakin' ridiculous! God must have overdosed him on talent the day we was created as he is incredible.

Though he takes a while to warm up to it, O' Connor's solo kills the (still decent) recorded version.
