  • the greatest north american music.....the best (I have the record for many years)

thanks for the live video..thanks so much

  • I have listened to this at least one hundred times, This group is such a pleasure to watch and hear, they all seem to be in such harmony with each other and doing a phenomenal job... I absolutely Love this!

  • Sam Bush has the raddest hair evarrrrr!

  • Yes this melody was performed by Jon McLaughlin in the early seventies on visions of the emerald beyond they do it justice I'm surprised that credits are not listed

  • what is the meaning behind the song title?

  • you put the CD in the deck while driving on a freeway...then CRANK IT UP ;)

  • Mark O'Connor makes a fiddle out-warp even Scottie!

  • unbelieveable!!!!!

  • This is a John Mclaughlin song from visions of Emeralds and Beyond. Very good.

  • @jgiuffra1 No it's not by John McLaughlin. This song was written by Bela Fleck and Edgar Meyer, but I agree that it is very good.

  • @scmm42 Theyshould pay some royalties to John McLaughlin, because the similarity is more than a coincidence.

  • Absolutely mind-blowing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I've found precious little sound so superlatively surreal as this piece, executed in masterful craft.

  • what the fuck is that instrument ? Thats no double bass . it sounds too cello-ish for a double bass

  • @truebrightdreamer It's a double bass, but he plays (very well) high up on the neck. Edgar Meyer is a freak of nature, as are each of the other guys. This might have been the single most talented American band to ever take the stage. Each guy (with the possible exception of Bush) could make a credible claim to be the "best" player in American folk music history on his instrument. More than that, they all listen to each other and play music, not just notes.

  • @rosskolnikov I agree we might never see another get together and perform as well as these guys did

  • So damn enjoyable, melodic and heartfelt.

Okay EdgarMeyer is my new favorite Bassist.

  • dont blame u

  • Wow. My mind is now officially blown.

  • Great playing and an exceptional composition!

  • sam bush is always so happy when he plays!

  • when was it?

  • This was my favorite episode of Austin City Limits. Really brave music that you couldn't hear anywhere else a tthe time.

  • where is Mark's famous hat!?

  • This is absolutely unique musical mastery. Fantastic !

  • How the hell does Edgar do that first bass note? Good god!

  • He's sliding up to a natural harmonic... It's absolutely breath-taking.

  • I got to see those guys four or five times, first as the 'Nashville Masters' about 20 years ago. Really miss seeing them all together, still love seeing them solo and in various combinations.

  • I've seen all these guys live, together and separately, at the Strawberry Music Festival in California. It's nice to see this and have my good memories revived. Thanks for posting!

  • Tom Hanks on the double bass!

jk, this is awesome. Love it

  • No, Edgar Meyer in Cast Away...

  • okay, who else is in love with sam bush's hair?

  • @neetaso no

  • All I can say is WOW! Wonderful, inspirational & powerful.

Thanks for putting this on. What a gem.

  • The "Strength in Numbers" Band was so awesome! I can't believe that they only made one CD! (Thank God I have that!) Oh, one more thing you should know: Bela turns "50" on 10 July'08! If you want to send him a B-day card...here's the address: David Bendett Artists, Inc., 2431 Briarcrest Rd., Beverly Hills, CA 90210. (This is Bela's Manager and he will see that he gets it) Thanks!

  • Geez....saw this in '92. STILL blows me away!

  • WOWSERS! Did you see the SMOKE coming off those strings?? Fantastic, thank you.

  • That's rosin dust.

  • My comment was not to be taken literally LOL! But cool...............errrrrrrr I mean that was SMOKIN! Geesh!

  • why is that guy holding his guitar so weird??

  • That would be a dobro, or resinator guitar.

  • Man once it hits that fiddle solo. My God that's intense.

  • They played like people out of music conservatories.

    Wow.

  • These guys kill. It's unreal.

  • this is so good that it is honestly scary.

  • wow, still speechless after watching this video many a time

  • jerry douglas.

  • The best of the best right here for sure

  • This is the definition of supergroup right here. Damn but these guys were good (they still are, even if they aren't SiN anymore).

  • Geeze... I filmed Edgar's concert at the Blair School of Music a few years back. He was absolutely awesome. Much better listening than this. It was Just him and a female pianist. Unfortunately, I was stupid one night and I filmed over the entire thing. Aaargh!!! Ouch. That really hurts.

  • AAAAAH!

It hurts more when you say it :) Don't you know how many of us live ocean faraway and will never get that chance.

    Damn!

  • I'm speechless.

  • Where can you get a DVD copy of this Performance?!?!

  • This is from an Austin City Limits performance, 1992

  • Mark O'Connor is freakin' ridiculous! God must have overdosed him on talent the day we was created as he is incredible.

  • Though he takes a while to warm up to it, O' Connor's solo kills the (still decent) recorded version.

  • Awesome, thank you for posting this.

  • amazing

  • This is amazing! Edgar Meyer was so thin!
