honestly, I saw this part

and tell you it is one of the better parts, because the action part goes to the doctor to treat and banality of which turn out to be the person with the ability to control people psychokinesis is pretty psycho even this was nothing they could do the helpless, quite scary Captain totally humiliated, spoke imposes emotions (which fatally injures Vulcans) dwarf what those skills as a clown has no control and hop is also interesting to get off

Shatner is obviously aware he is the hammiest of hams as an actor. If you don't believe me trying watching the animated feature Over The Hedge in which he has a voiceover part. He is constantly sending himself up. It is an incredibly funny movie and Shatner steals the show IMO.

This was the 3rd season, and at this point, Leonard Nimoy hated the scripts and was not fond at all of the Star Trek's producer, Fred Freiberger, who took over for Gene Roddenberry who left after Star Trek was moved to Friday nights at 10 pm. Nimoy even wrote to Doug Cramer, the head of Paramount TV asking for help with the disregard his character was being treated.

Star Trek was hailed as the ground breaking show it was for sci fi and for television but by the third season they get to this point with Kirk acting even worse than normal as a horse. Admittedly though, I think scenes from "Spock's Brain" could have been added too. That was also absurdly funny. But no, it's not really like ha ha funny.

@jlennon510 it's hard to me to hear critics on TOS cause it means that if you are right, i either have a bad taste or a powerful imagination which compensates flaws of actors. To me, the series was about power of a human spirit, of a superiority of a will that beats fear and disbelief. Those episodes in which crew resists god-like creatures are like anthem of Freedom Of Choice to me. This is actually one of them.

@EternalSearcher No it is, definitely. Like I said, the show was ground breaking in so many ways. But, come on, you have to give a little giggle to see William Shatner acting like a horse. The concept of the episode is really interesting. Especially the "Uhura/Kirk kiss" which was totally shocking because the portrayal of an African American woman kissing a white man. And you can still love the show and critique it too. It had ups and downs for sure.
