  • Great song 1 of the best ever ( and seriously drop the Terry Kath stuff he was good in his time 30 years later maybe not so )

  • one of finest moment in classic rock.what an ending WOW?

  • These 2 bands can jam! I saw them many times solo & together. They Rock!!! :)

  • WOW!!!! almost TOO MUCH heavy takent for one stage!!!Wish I was there

  • the young guitar player in chicago is fucking phenomenal ...but those older doob cats sure nuff kept up IMO

  • I was there! Thanks to my ex-wife and her new hub who work there; we had our 8 yr old son with us. I'm proud to say we got along great...this was a GREAT performance by both bands; truly an epic set. Thanks so much for posting! (our first concert with our son, what a memory)

  • @zeppelinfanjeff thats cool jeff....myself, i never met a bridge I didn't burn

  • Chicago do not need Doobies, together they are just a noise, Chicago make good music.

  • @2468fire Great Grammar!

  • "LEGENDARY" Performers! =o]

  • It's awesome when the guys are trading off lead parts. They do it in Doobie Bros. songs also when Robert Lamm does part of the singing.

  • Thanks for posting this!

  • I SAW THEM TOGETHER TONIGHT.

Best fucking night of my life so far.

  • Love the Doobies and Chicago together BUT I don't like the Peter Cetera guy who sings lead, I found him to be really full of himself and just plan didn't like him....but that is me...he thinks he is pretty special...well I don;t....Chicago and all the other members rock and so does Doobies but this buy really bugged me!....anyone feel the same!????

  • @rickspsringfield

Thanks. I'm from Ireland and I'm gonna be is USA for holidays in July and I'm gonna see these two bands together in Chicago. Did hear some mixed reports but this is reassuring. I'm looking forward to it.

  • @rickspsringfield I agree. I think it's Jason Scheff. He's a talented fellow, but I had the same impression of him as you.

  • @Larrymh07 He's a great bass player, but he can't sing to save his life.

  • No, there is nor will there ever be another TK or pC. Or the original Chicago... but the band is a business, with longevity over 43 years, and Jason (bassist, singing pC's part) and some of the other guys have been there over half that time so you gotta give them cred. Keith Howland (guitarist) is certainly no Kath, but does a good job and well, he's a cutie and brings the young crowd to enjoy some classic tunes.

  • @LeslieDesigner

You are so right..I just saw the Doobies and Chicago at the Gibson Theater at Universal...and they were both awesome...the guy does do a great Peter C.....and sounds like him...and Chicago was great but the Doobies as my fav were awesoem as well!...great concert!...glad I booked a front row seat for myself for my bday!...I would go see them both again~!...Truly!....great concert!.....

  • What I would have given to be in your spot. Thanks for this!

  • Great video and great pairing of two bands that deserve to be in the Rock Hall of Fame.

  • Thank you ,Front Row Artist. I was at that show. You really nailed it. Most audience

videos suck. Out of focus and the sound sucks.I was probably 10 rows behind you and

you caught the heat of those 2 bands topping off one of the most complete perfect

rock & roll shows I have seen.

  • Some of you guys are worse that old woman. S.T.F.U and talk shop. If any instructor says Terry was just average they are total idiots. Kath was and still is considered by most greats as being an incredible guitarist with his own style. He made Chicago a much better than average band.

  • OLD GUYS RULE!!!

  • @TheEldoradoKid Thanks! I'm one of those old guys. "MY Band" used to open our shows playing "Beginnings" (Chicago) and closed our shows w/ "Long Train Runnin' (Doobies). A little Fleetwood Mac, Charlie Daniels, Marshall Tucker, Blackfoot, Boston, Allman Brothers, Beatles,Stones & Van Morrison in between.

  • @bartmansan It all sounds like wonderful stuff!! I'll bet you had people on their feet and rockin'! Yep,I can identify with all of that and more. It would be a real "trip" back to high school dance days to hear a set like that again... good luck! I hope you still have the chops and get out there every once in a while and pull of a few of those songs, I think I still have most of them in my vinyl collection.

  • peanut grow up

  • Terry Kath will never be duplicated. He was a genuis guitar player who influnced so many young guitarists including my self. Have you heard the full version of make me smile. The ending is incredible. This guitarist is great but not Terry Kath. Who could also sing his ass off.

  • agreed but this still is a great show w/ nothing lacking...

  • @skipper8257 Man I can not AGREE with more, There will never be another Terry Kath.........................

  • Peanut 2715

No I don't think I'll prove anything to you. See you're just an ordinary person with an opinion, that's OK but you are not a peer (do know what a peer is) of Terry Kath. I am a peer of his as well as Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, John Frusicante, Steve Vai etc. We are all professional guitarists and we earn our livings this way. So you really don't deserve proof but its there check out back issues of Guitar Player Magazine 1970-1998 and Downbeat 1969-1995 you'll find your proof.

  • Peanut2715

People who know music, know Terry Kath.

The guy was admired by Hendrix and copied by Stevie Ray Vaughn.

His 25 or 6 to 4 solo is the only solo that uses every pentatonic scale on the guitar

Ask your guitar teacher what this means or take my word.

I've played professionally for more than 30yrs and you're wrong when you say that Kaths playing is average. Also you shouldn't say that Page, Clapton etc.

never mention him they have they are great players they know great playing.

  • elodewijkvh R u a Chgo fan? You mentioned that Page, Clapton said he was great . Would u provide me with some documentation that they said that? Either in a Guitar mag or some interview. I domt want to hear that they resonded to some question about Kath and were being gracious and didnt want to offend him . In other words I want to hear they said that unsolicited and werent prompted to say so. If that solo is so hard to play I must be a star because I have no trouble playing it Reverb cont

  • Peanus... let it go please. you are nothing and will never be anything other than a know it all whiner . if your instructors were so great would they not be playing in a band? opinions are like assholes, everyone has one and they are usually full of shit !!

  • Cocklover69 . I thunk u should learn how to read first before u comment Where did I say my instructors were so great? Who said they played or did not play in a band? U should stick to the instrument u play best the SKINFLUTE. Just go back to smoking that weed and turn up the Gratefull Dead music up louder.

  • and Wah Wah pedal included. If u are a pro I can respect that , but I asked several guitar players and instructors and most if not all say the same about Kaths ability AVERAGE. My instructor say it s true what u say , but thats not the only solo. He claims that for the older guitar players Lindsay Buckingham is more unque and more difficult to play What do u think: ?

  • I'vd never heard a serious guitar player say Kath was average. Jimi took Chicago on tour with him after befriending Kath at Whiskey a Go Go. Can't remember the talk show but remember Jimi responding there were other guitar players better than he and specifically named Kath. Watch Kath's videos. Every single version of 25 or 6 to 4 is a different solo. Lindsay Buckingham? Compared to Kath. Are you joking to torment others here or are you serious?

  • @eddhouck talk show? dick cavett?

  • Peanut - it is time for you to find another video for you to post your glorious opinions on.

This is a Chicago video- people watch these because they LIKE Chicago and the members of Chicago.

I am sure there is an Asia or Survivor video somewhere on You Tube just waiting for your critique. I think they are more your style.

As for using the words "Commy" and "faggot" in your postings, well that just shows your intelligence. Disgusting.

You are not worth my time.

  • Mbird69 . Those insults u speak of r not girected to anybody but Happy mike .He insults me all the time , just 4 vocing my opinion ,and because i am REpublican and sucessfull and he is a weed smoking dem on welfare. As far as The band Chgo goes , I have no dog in this fight and am trying to lend a air of objectivity to ur fawing over Kath. As far as groups i like they include RHCP, Muidvein SOAD,Tool , Greenday ,Zeppelin Clapton, Again my opinions r shared by most guitar players. cont..

  • Hey Peanus ... if you are so great then why are you constantly on the computer?perhaps you need a life outside of the internet. someone as sucessful as you surely has to better things to do than argue on this site.

  • Hey JUGHEAD .Why r u on the internet. Food Stamps havent come to u yet ? Shouldnt u wait for the mail just in case they come? Dickjhead Im just respondind to people who send me comments .Go and smoke some weed and listen to Kath and maybe the Gratefull Dead!

  • Nice try Peanus... i am not the one who is saying they are so great. the only one you are fooling is yourself !

  • cont .. I know of and play guitar with. The general conscience is that Kath is average . And if u cant accept that , its ok to be a fan. If u go to other sites ,People will say that Randy Bachman , Steve Miller, Kirke from BadCo ,etc r the best guitar players, While I embrace all types of music , i feel I"m pretty objective . U should try to listen to new bands once in a while , to expand ur knowledge of music. Just because chgo sold a 100 m records dosent mean u cant enjoy other music

  • I bet u never heard any of the bands I mentioned exept 4 Clapton and Zeppelin. That a shame because if 4 instance u saw the guitar player for the REd Hot Chilli Peppers play , I doubt if u would have the same opinion that Kath is the greatest guitar player ever, At least if u were objective. Again I think Manilow sold 100 million records too,so that dont mean anything! And 4 the bands u mentioned ,at least they had singers who sang on key ,and didnt sound like they wre constipted when they sang

  • mbird69 .. Speaking of disgusting . I recall u saying I should "WHACK OFF" to some VanHalen video. I have too much class to return the insult U gave me . So I guess u showed ur intelligence. And I showed the advanced trait of mercy! Peace!

  • OK Peanut,

You agree that Marc is a great Guitar player, his current gig is playing with Danny Seraphine in CTA. When they played in Denver I met Marc and we talked about his career and one of the things I asked him was who were his influences and the first person he said was Terry Kath he said that he loved playing with CTA and he gets to play Terry's stuff who wouldn't like that. Oh his other influences were Jeff Beck and Eric Clapton who he said also admired Terry Kath, imagine that.

  • Ckelly57 .. I beliee u when u say Marc told u those things. But again I have never heard those artists u mentioned say those things . In fact I heard Clapton himself say that a band that utilizes horns in their music , do so to cover up the lack of talent in the rest of the group. When I hear of the mutual admiration society speak .. I always hear the same names . Page ,Clapton, Van Halen etc .. I have never heard Kaths name mentioned by any of those artists . Its Ok to like Kath...cont

  • kelly57 cont from previous ... But its wrong to try to include him with the legends. His music is pretty simple to play .. at least 4 me. On another note Bonila playing seems to me to have a Van Halen influence to it .. much more than Kath.

  • Hey Peanut

If you want to see an amazing guitar player check out anything by Marc Bonilla in particular the video hit and run and don't you dare trivialize his playing with your so-so guitar knowledge. Also, know that every great guitar player knows who he is and how great he is mostly because they have played with him so don't start throwing names around like you know them and know what they think.

  • hey ckelly; " SO dont start throwing names around like u know what them and know what they think: U mean like Kaths fans keep clinging on what Jimmy said > And cant find another great guitar player who agrees with Jimmy. I checked out Bonila and I agree with u . Hes great. Much better than Kath.

  • Terry Kath was one of the most innovative guitar players of his time. Innovated and original. So what if he plays simple chord progressions? It's no big deal. Rest assured he could also play the more difficult progressions as well.

Rest in peace Terry and walk with GOD.

  • Thank u Guitarschmoozer for vindicating my point. You said better than I when u mentioned " simple chord progressioins" Atleast u seem to know what ur talking about and not a rabid Chicago / Kath fan.. I agree with what u said , however can u point out what soo inovating about Kath's playing . Maybe I just missing something.

  • Sure, no problem....Just listen to his guitar solo on 25 or 6 to 4.

In my opinion, it's one of his finest.

  • Guitarschmoozer Thanks for replying.. I agree with u that the solo on 25 0r 6 to 4.was one of Kath's finest. But let me ask u a question and I'm not being sarcastic. What is the inovation there. R u sayin the Wah Wah pedal or the reverb usage? I watched several times on " PlayGuitarSolo" on found nothing unique about it . It seems like on all Chicago threads his fans make him out to be a guitar God. I just dont c it. U mentioned he could play the more difficult progressions ...

  • Stop stalking me u faggot. ' Shut up? For a guy whos always crying about free speach u always seem to want to censor anybody who dosent agree with u. Hey dummy I guess u forgot who was chairman of the finance com . when the banking crisis hit. His mane is Frank a dem. .. 401 k money I guess u never heard of a self directed Ira . U DEms always blaming somebody else for ur failures . Take some self responsibility or go to Russia and be a commy. . Its always somebody else"s fault! Stupid fag

  • cont.. My next question would be . Why didnt he.? I dont believe what his fans say when thet remark He was to humble to play them and didnt want the spot light on Himself. In my opinion EVH was so inovative. Check out " Aint talkin' bout' love" cover by Kent Carlevi . Notice the double finger action , Verbrato bar with pinky finger and the various finger presures he uses to get the sound on the Riffs. at the same time! I dont think Kaths fingers (CHUBBY) would allow him to do thaT

  • All I can tellya is..If Terry's playing was good enough to impress someone like Jimi Hendrix, then he's okay with me.

  • Tom Johnston of the Dooobies was playing around 2:55 he is the worst guitarist on the stage. Before you start slinging pies, I have been a Doobies fan, and still am, since the late 60's, but IMO Johnston cannot hold a candle to Simmons or McFee on guitar. Let the arrows fly!

  • Dear Caryn . I wish I could play as good as Kath, I play as a hobby. How did I insult him ? I just said he was average. While i just plat as a hobby, I can tell u Kath is pretty simple to play . He has very few " changes " and play a lot of basic 3 power chords. How could u compare him with the greats like Page,Van Halen or Clapton I know u want believe this but Rick Springfield is more difficult to play. My problem with his singing is that with Lamm and Citera in the group .. cont

  • cont from previous ... He should have no reason to sing. I just happened to check out this video by mistake, so I really dont care too much about the group Chicago . u must be old or like bubble gum music to care about this band . I believe it was Clapton who said R and R bands shouldnt use horns because it usually means the band is trying to cover up their lack of skills on the other instruments. Sorry about the Typos I hope I cleared up my comments. By the way do u play?

  • mommabird ; I guess u think CF Turner is a great singer too ! (BTO) I know Hendrix said that . But I wonder how much acid he was on. Jimmy was a way better guitar player than Kath. U notice no other famous guitar player has mention hoow great Kath was. I think Clapton made a negative veiled comment about Kath. .I guess you show ur knowledge when u rip Eddie Van Halen playing Kath couldnt hold Eddies guitar pick.I never said I was a expert,

  • mommabird - I play as a hobby . I am not a pro. However I can speak to the difficulty I have playing guitar to the mucic of the Chili Peppers , Zeppelin < Clapton Van Halen or even Rick Springfield. I seem to pick up Kath's player easier. I said before if u played u would know about things like "changes" ,and the difficulty involved with them. Kath is ok , but nothing unique. Chicago went from somewhat progressive to top40 to bubble gum to elevater music!

  • mommabird. You seem the need to insult me . I take believe u dont believe Kath is a poor singer. To prove the point Seed how much better Lamm sings " Make me smile" And if his guitar playing was so difficult , the newest young guitar in Chicago seems not to have a problem playing Kaths Ill give Kath credit for the creating stuff. As far as anyboby else having my opinion of Kath ,most of my fellow guitar player 'shave the same opinion. I ur so sure how great he is . Pick a song. cont..

  • cont from previous .. And not some obscure song. And i try to c if ai can post a video response. I have no camera so it would be under another user name. I wont even have to be all fucked up on Acid, Heroin and Weed like Kath was.

  • Gotta say, from about 2:40, the Doobie guitarists came eerily close to channeling Terry Kath! Especially the guy at 2:55. Nice work!

  • "the guy at 2:55". Ha Ha.

You don't even know their names, or the members of Chicago who are not there, Danny, Peter & Terry.

In 1969 I was 1 of 2 people not touring with Chicago, sitting 25 feet in front of them as they did a complete rehearsal concert at the start of their 1st European tour. Nothing Chicago has done since comes close to capturing what it was like then.

Not even Patrick, Tom or Jeff can come close to reproducing the sound that Chicago made during their early years.

  • Wow, Sherlock. No, I don't know the names of the Doobies, and I'm oh so sorry if that bothers you. I referred to him as "the guy", specifically because I don't know his name, dipshit. What's curious is that you said I didn't know the names of the absent Chicago members. What would make you think that? I even referenced Terry. I've known the names of every member since I was a kid in the 70s...living in Chicago.

  • Wow ! Fantastic Show ! Hope to see this in DVD Video ! Wow ! Wow ! Wow ! Wha,ha,haaaaa ...

  • i saw this performed...they played together and it was awesome

  • Lucky!!!! Thay are awsome!!!!

  • I saw this played...i was at this concernt..it was awesome

  • Thanks for posting this! Great vid!! Let the people argue about bands changing members. They all do it if they're around long enough. Give the new guys a chance! They're great. I saw Chicago in Grand Rapids MI a couple years ago and they were awesome!! The soundtrack of my life.

  • sorry "modmusick" ...even though this is one crappy music video....Chicago IS definitely one of THE BEST bands of all time, you are just from a slightly "different" generation, we forgive you......

  • "drhey19 -The best tour of all time! Two of the greatest bands of all time!"

Man, you need to check yourself. I love Chicago and the Doobies, but please, The Greatest Bands? You're living in the past and probably don't listen to U2, Cold Play, Maroon 5 or even (let's go back a little) Tower Of Power. Get a grip.

  • drhey is right, they are one of the greatest bands... for all time, Cold play U2, thats not so cool like chicago, noone wants to listen that...

  • great means standing the test of time. coldplay U2 and Maroon 5 will die out !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! for sure

  • Why is ANYONE even getting excited about seeing this stupid version of Chicago perform a classic song? For Christ's sake, people. There is no Cetera. There is no Kath. There is no Seraphine. This gang would be better off kicking out that silly Scheff; dumping Howland; and sending Champlin back to his brothers. Let Lamm do all the singing. At least then the band could be a shadow of itself...

  • no you are wrong, ok I think Cetera is has a better voice then Jason, but Howland is much much much better then Terry and other crazy chicago guitarists, people can think what they think, but for me Howland is awesome, love his appearance and his voice...they should let sing him more songs...

  • lol, another internet music expert, get a life loser, if you dont like the music dont listen. go listen to michael jackson instead

  • Keith Howland is under rated. They should use him more. He has great vocals also. I would love to see a reunion with Peter Cetera, I guess I should hold my breath. Chicago has what it takes to make another 1 album, if they put their mind to it. I look forwardto that

  • I totally agree with you!!!

  • Keith Howland is the best guitarplayer, soo good, Chicago 4ver

  • The best tour of all time!

Two of the greatest bands of all time!

  • bravo !!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • WOW...Thanks for this. Wish I could have been there.

  • saw them both in detroit this year and was the best concert i have ever seen !!!!!!!!

  • I went to go see them at Jones beach and it brings back great memories a classic with two awesome bands 2 thumbs up thank you for sharing

  • DUDE I WAS THERE HOLY CRAP!!!!!

this show was GREAT!!!! ill never forget it

  • Superb! Wish we could have been there!

  • Oh! MY ! GOD! This is the best vid's I've seen here on YT. These are brilliant shots! And Chicago and the Doobies 2gether! I really envy ALL the peeps who got to be there at their shows! But I'm grateful I get to see Chicago in Paris next week (July 29). This is one hell of a video! Well done and thanx for sharing!

    Ingrid from Holland.
