  • so you put and 22e should thave put the 22t its BULLETPROOF

  • i have 91 subaru legacy 2.5gt auto but idk i was always thinkin bout doin a conversion anyone can help me out?

  • Replaced the head gaskets on my '98 2.5l two years and almost 30000 miles ago and have had no problems since. Just have to use genuine Subaru parts.... they got it right with the last revision.

Love this car! Better than any BMW, Audi or Volvo I've had..

  • @adamv242 How Much did it cost you to get the head gaskets replaced?I've got a '98 2.5 with oil in my radiator. Do you think its the head gaskets?

  • @311fan312 definitely head gaskets.

I've had them priced anywhere between 900.00 to 1,400 to have them replaced.

if you do the work yourself you can probably get away with it for about 400.00 in parts and fluids, etc.

  • I've got the same car! (except automatic)

I did the 2.2 swap because of the head gasket issue, but still, plenty o' power and AWD!!!!

    Go Subie!!!

  • Woot Woot! I just did the 2.2 swap, but mine seized up, and I had no luck getting a good 2.5l. I want to turbo eventually to make up for the 40hp drop. lol

  • @Thepursuitof Hey, i was looking into buying a 1998 subaru legacy gt sedan. You mentioned a head gasket problem..what happend with that? It looked like a great car and i love the rally look they have haha. Please get back to me, id love the input and review.

    Thanks, Derek

  • @Hudson2012 The head gasket issue is very common on nearly all 2.5 liter engines between 1997 and 2002. A lot of people who get the headgasket issue just replace the engine with a 2.2 liter one. I replaced mine with a 2.2 from a '95 legacy wagon. I recommend getting a 2.2 from a 1996 or 1997.

  • @Thepursuitof The head gasket issue is actually very common from 1996-2004. But yeah, the 2.2's are the safest way to go.. Those engines are pretty much bullet proof! I don't think I could have the 2.2, even less power would kill me! Do you notice much of a difference in performance since you got the 2.2 in?

  • @parsley0120 Meh, yeah there is less power, but not much. The biggest complaint i have is that it seems to work a little harder up hills.

But still, It's a good thing. I don't have to worry about the head gasket issue again. worth it i think.

  • @Thepursuitof im doing the same thing! do you think u made the right choice?? I hear it's the right way to go cuz the 2.2 are indestructable. that true??

  • @twiddlemusic I think i defintely made the right choice. It would be nice to have a few extra horsepower, but I haven't had any problems with the 2.2

I had an impreza with a 2.2 and it went to 278,000 before the transmission finally kicked it. The engine was still running strong.

My '99 GT I have now has a 2.2 with 190,000 miles on it, still runs great, plenty of power for where i am.

The only complaint that i have with mine is the low gear ratio.

at 80 she's spinning at over 3500 rpm

  • @Thepursuitof

You can get cams done @ Delta Cams, that will put you close to the power levels of the 2.5. I think they are around $90 a cam.

  • I have a '98 LGT Limited and it has yet to let me down! I wouldn't trade it for anything... Except maybe on of the 2010 LGT Limiteds lol

  • Well, I am just about to have my motor swap finished. And will be getting me and 2 of my other legacy buddies to make a video!

  • i got the 98 looks the same

  • these cars arent built for power, but my 2.5 actually beat a stock 02 wrx. i have a few bolt ons though. intake, exhaust, pulleys, flywheel, etc.

  • Hey nice ride. I'm looking into getting either a 1999 or 2000 GT legacy. Both are automatics with the 99 having only 77k miles and the 00 with only 48k. Would you say that these have good off the line power? Have you ever driven and automatic GT?

  • i drive the 97 LGT, same engine in all GT's from 97-04. The power definitely isn't exhilerating, but, it does the job. The sound from the boxer is what gets me, though. Pretty peppy, overall.

  • I want unequal headers just to get the rumble!

That is what made me fall in love with subaru!

  • haha papa roach. awful!

  • NICE!!!! could ya put some more vids up?

  • Yeah I sure will. I will be doing some better editing, with a bit more flash to em. :D

  • I will be making a new video with my car and my friends Saturn. If you have any ideas or something you want implemented into the video give me a shout.

  • you have my exact car. i love it! can't wait for the winter season!!

  • I love mine too, I just got it, so I havnt had a chance to play in the snow yet :(
