Wilkerson knows his foreign policy, particularly towards Cuba. Trustworthy by most means, he's a hard worker, the enemy of a rat like Dick Cheney.
The Real News is a wonderful group of people. I'm am a happy donor and will continue to spread the word about the Real News and continue my monetary support. I recommend you all do the same. In Paul Jay we trust.
What does America have to fear with Cuba today? Is America xenophobic ? Nah. This is just another example that if you remove the democratic name tag these politicians wear, you see the same people that run circus.
Maybe the oil spill (gusher) will reach Cuba. Then Cuba can file legal charges against the U.S. government because they did nothing – except for kicking butt.
I don't get why the U.S. Federal Government still has a trade embargo on Cuba, Europe trades with Cuba anyway so economic penalties are more or less futile.
@Jeanisimo Fidel is out of the picture, his brother Raul instituted some light reforms. Besides, how do you define success on the part of Cuba? For instance, we have Hugo Chavez who came to power well after the Castro brothers and he is instituting all types of interesting socialist reforms. But he could care less ... we need his oil all the same. I want some Cuban cigars...
Oh my god I can't believe this republican just said so many true nice things about Cuba. Most of this man said, I knew, but I never thought I'd see people from the US admitting it so openly. This has made my day.
Er.. Cuba not a 'threat' anymore? When was it ever a threat? The US was a threat to Cuba because Cubans dared to challenge the occupation of their country by US politics and corporations. I guess I'm being snobby? But I just get the creeps from Wilkerson. He maybe the most moderate republican I've ever seen, but I sense he has a dark past and I still can't figure him out.He seems to get many things wrong and still make many odd statements. Slags of Dick Cheney but calls him an 'excellent' Sec def
Fantastic interview. I have so much respect for RealNews! It touches on REAL topics that the so-called Liberal media refuses to touch. I suppose anything that questions the orthodoxy of the status-quo is quote-unquote Liberal.
I'm unclear on Larry Wilkerson's anecdote. Can someone please explain it a little clearer? I'm confused as to who said what. Was congressman from Kansas asked by Wasserman-Shultz & Ros-Lehtinen to vote with them FOR this bill 4546 to improve relations w/Cuba & they offered to vote FOR his #1 & #2 favorite bills & they (the congresswoman) would give him a $5,000 PAC contribution? Then he said, "How can I stand up to that?" What does that mean? Will he vote FOR or AGAINST better relations w/Cuba?
@JixMa It means they offered to systematically back him on his favourite two issues whenever they came up, in exchange for him voting for their preference on Cuba (didn't hear a specific reference to 4546, rather just vote the way they vote on Cuba in general -in favour of the embargo, etc.), plus the $5000 bucks. His question means he is very tempted to give in to the corrupt practice described.
@JixMa Definitely for it. (Despite the argument Wilkerson espouses that the embargo helps to prevent plurality in Cuba's government), Ros-L is apparently the epitome of rabid anticastrismo. She's one of the couple of Republicans who went to see Micheletti in Honduras after the coup to express her undying admiration. "Miami Herald in 2004 called her "one of the embargo's staunchest supporters in Congress". Couldn't find any more recent quote either way but the video does state this.

I so fucking hate this true FASCIST CUNT (Ileana Ros-Lehtinen). Everytime I've heard the evil bitch speak (like say, on "RealTime with Bill Maher"), I've wanted to see her dead.

They've faced an embargo for decades and they still have better healthcare than the U.S. That alone should tell you something.

Very interesting. Special interests are codewords for corporate power. Most PAC's are part of Corporate America.

@tbsla13 They have a trade embargo because they don't want to see Fidel Castro succeed so he won't be an example for other Latin American leaders.
