I'm stuck in a rut, and have never received formal training. I simply learned songs by tab/ear, and now I want to be able to compose my own and jam with other guitarists.

I can play guitar but my amp loses sound when finger tapping and doing hammer ons and pull - offs.

I think he uses Dorian the most, but i think his "for the love of god" is phrygian. I THINK, you would need to do some research.

@verylastbreath Hi there on this particular DVD the dvd teaching time is approximately an hour long, covering alot of content - 32 Quick Licks that you can piece together to either create some of the performance above or create your own and as many songs as you wish. Idea you can implement in your own playing or building your own style. Andy breaks down all the licks and shows you note for note what to play. Hope that helps.

Hey, i just got the DVD in the mail and i just wanted to come back here and recomend this to anyone interested in learning a few new techniques...When i bought this video i was expecting to just learn this and be able to play 1 solo..but it expanded my playing soooo much i find myself playing in this steve vai style soo much more in my improv...Definately an amazing buy....5* DVD

good stuffs. im into vai too and most of the licks he did are vai's licks and some even are taken from some of vai's songs. very significant vai kind of scales. one of wic is vai does very little string bending. i like the paddle tones coz they are exact vai's stuffs!

This dudes flawless to the point of perfection, please man and really he doesn't sound like vai? i know some of these licks are note for note vai, i play alot of his style and could tell you exactly which licks are in which songs of vai, not to say they all are but some definitely are. I have the dvd it owns.

Dude, I agree. I think the "Quick Licks" series is the most valuable of the Lick Library repertoir as it gives insight into different ways of phrasing and allows you to pick and choose thus creating your own style.... and they do a great job for the most part. A few I'm surprised they haven't done yet is Eddie Van Halen (duh), Eric Johnson, Duane Allman and Dickey Betts, and Paul Gilbert

It's the song that Andy teaches you on the video - every note !!!!

He wrote it for the video to show a load of Vai's techniuqes and nuances in one track. Very cool.

The track is broken down into 32 consecutive licks (phrases which Andy teaches note-by-note) and they cover pretty much everything: tapping, legato, loads of whammy stuff, use of wah, all of Vai's trademarks.
