  • Gorgeous, love it.

  • THis is so funny that I came across these girls on here since my real name is Nekia and I belly belly dance. Ha!

  • beautiful......i like i like this different style...any idea of the name of the song???

  • soo beautiful..and the costume too "mulin rouge style".I.LOVE the music (any ideas on which song it is?)..thanks if you reply to me

  • Lame and tacky, sorry

  • I'm sure dead drunk people on a bachelor party will really enjoy this... Come on, any 5-year old with two bellydance lessons can do this.

  • Burlesque is super-in right now (probably because of the Indigo? :P Just guessing.) Maybe their skirts got lost in travel? Haha ;P

I'm so glad to see everyone here telling the truth--this is such a mistake! I'm sure the audience felt really awkward watching that. I did.

Also: I didn't like how their hands kept going to *a certain place*. It's like, yes, I know it's there, you don't have to point. We shouldn't even have that thought cross our minds, but it does. Way to go.

  • at 0:55 I did a double take and thought, "Please tell me they aren't wearing something that skimpy, seriously." The dancing's good, those outfits (if you can call them that) are horrid though.

  • One thing the boas do, though, is make the hip pops more noticable, but that really doesn't make up for lack of costume. Some skirts might be nice, ladies. They are relatively talented dancers, and the choreography isn't horrible, but anything good about their performance is completely overshadowed by their god-awful attire.

  • Ew.

  • Reminds me much more of "A Wink and a Smile: The Art of Burlesque" than belly dance. More fusing needed for the fusion...

  • Wow. I understand that the whole burlesque-fusion is hot right now in the Tribal scene, but still...the costumes here really need to be rethought. The tops are okay, but there are other ways to incorporate feathers and burlesque accessories with dance pants or what would be really hot is mermaid/trumpet skirts. Booty shorts (or what ever was under those boas) should not be in belly dance, even in the American styles.

  • Dance was good, but the music wasn't that great, and their costumes are terrible! I feel ashamed to be a belly dancer watching this video!

  • A beautiful woman dancing is ALREADY sensual, they didn't have to try so hard. I don't think bending over in what appears to be feathery lingerie and thigh-highs is going to help repair belly dance's "hoochy-coochy" image. A lot of talented dancers are trying desperately to get belly dance more respect--I don't think these girls got that memo. This is not a good message for young dancers either and is the kind of crap that makes parents hesitant to enroll their daughters in belly dance classes.

  • @rosereddoll

Yeah, I was like "wtf is this. It's some sorry excuse for bellydance, and it fulfills the stereotype of bellydance".

  • You can see their ass cheeks when they bend over. The purpose of bellydance is sensuality, with emphasis on elegance and poise. There is nothing remotely elegant or sensual about this performance. Sensual and slutty are not the same thing. I think they need to seriously rethink their "style", if you want to call it that.

  • I don`t need to see their lilly white asses, get some skirts girls

  • I agree, it made them look like a bunch of two dollar hookers. The dancing wasn't that bad tho

  • i find it interesting that there's hardly any cheering for this dance. It's understandable though. It is more stripper-esque than a belly dance.

  • they should stick to burlesque

  • Person working the camera needs to learn how to keep it focused. That's really annoying.

  • made my eyes hurt...pout

  • stupid camera kept going out of focus, made me get a headache (more so than their dancing. LOL)

  • haha well..they're more like vegas showgirls than actual bellydancers. but it's ok, yknow, it's all entertainment. in whatever form. they're nicely choreographed & synchronised but not very skilled. their routine is pretty simple if u take away the strange costumes (which, sorry, i find cmpletely awful) & stage presence.

  • I love the outfit idea. I just think it should be done more tastefully. That's all.

  • - scratches head- I prefer when they dance with some clothes on...

  • okay,I don't find this offensive at all. I thought it was pretty cute. I love the leggy thingies. The buttcheeks were a little surprising though. I personally would have opted for spankies rather than a thong.

  • those are awesome costumes!

  • oh my goodness these women are hot. i wish i looked like that, but inregards to their dancing its no big deal, not inspiring. although they do look hot doing what they do.. =) the song was a little tame as well. but hey im sure if a pretty women is dancing people will stare and drool. but i think it all depends on personal taste. so rock on all forms of bellydance. just dont expect me to be a fan =)

  • I love the boas around the hips. Inspiring.

  • I don't agree, the burlesque thing isn't comming out of thin air. Actually the girls from the indigo are doing it too. But only these girls can't? You should see their other shows, those are way more amazing and way more naked, but it fits the role.

  • ....but i have yet to see then indigo's butt cheeks...while these girls are flaunting theirs

  • yup

  • 5* I like it. I like it.

  • I think this is waaay better performance than the Underworld DVD, which was rather strip-teasy-yawn for me. But this was actually quite lovely, altough I do agree that it doesn't really belong in a bellydance show, it looks more like a sideshow, but not bad. I do hate the camera person, someone take the camera from his hands!!!!

  • I adore the costumes and the dance is well put together. They look like they are having fun and thats the point. To me Bellydance can easily be both modest and sexual and any combination of the two that the dancer sees fit. Thats why I adore it.

  • I believe you all a talented dancers. I personally don't like the burlesque costumes. It gives people the wrong idea about belly dancing. Where I am from it has been hard for our community to embrace the art of belly dance and our troupe has really strived to give a good image. With that being said, I still think you are all very talented & beautiful. Just don't like the costuming. :-)

  • This is beautiful and bold, and the mild controversy regarding costumes is actually a good thing. Both points are valid, and promote an important dialog. In a culture that objectifies and sexualizes dancers and women, it's important to take responsibility for our own image, while maintaining respect for other people's opinions. Kudos to the dancers for sparking an important discussion.

  • Also, I'd like to note that belly dance is a continuously evolving dance form, and the Nekyia happens to be a FUSION troupe - see if you can guess what they're fusing here. Tribal and CABARET. Hence the OLD SCHOOL CABARET-STYLED COSTUMES. I happen to think they're totally awesome, and it's especially cool how the extension of the hip created by the boa skirts emphasizes and clearly defines the smaller hip movements.

  • Er....

"Cabaret" does not equal nearly-nekkid costuming complete with rhinestone G-strings. Unless you're thinking "cabaret" style Vegas-style showgirls and strippers, instead of "cabaret" bellydancing, aka Orientale, where "old-school cabaret-styled costumes" means a skirt or harem pants (or both).

  • Man I am SO tired of people immediately condemning belly dancers who wear scantier outfits!!! Belly dance is most definitely about feeling empowered, but why can't the empowerment also come from being completely comfortable with your body and wearing whatever the hell you feel like?

  • the dancing was very nice but i'm not to fond of the costumes. its not very tasteful

  • Good dancing.

Please stop breathing on the camera lens.

    :)

  • I like the cordination! Scandalous costume! :)

  • Who cares about the costuming? It was a great performance, period.

Has tribal or bellydance for that matter suddenly become all about the clothes??

  • umm yes? not only clothes, but hair, jewlery, dance, and most of all grace and attitude

  • Certainly not, which exactly why their goal should be to look as slutish as possible. It's about dancing, not making sure your ass hangs out to get more attention. And personally, I don't care what damn year we're in, belly dancers should have dignity. We've got a hard enough time dealing with the misconception that any belly dancer will gladly give you a lap dance.

  • The Nekyia has their own music created especially for them, to answer someone's question.

  • People have a misconception that dance is supposed to be about following rules. If you have some sort of opinion about the skill, strength or technique of these dancers then say it, but ask yourself if you are truly inclined to have that opinion since you are condemning creativity when you do. These dancers are obviously extremely talented, strong and have produced a very intelligent choreography. Didn't dance begin with self expression in the first place?

  • That's very true. People have this misconception that bellydance is something sexual when it's reall empowerment for women. Bellydance isn;t women shaking what their mommas gave 'em while wearing lingerie with bunches of coins here and there. And as pretty as their dance was, if they were gonan be in a tribal fest then their costumes should AT LEAST reflect what tribal dancers LOOK like.

  • I like the dancing, but absolutely hate the costuming. It distracts from the dance and because their bottom's are exposed, taked a beautiful sensuous dance and makes it crude and much too close to the stripper undulating on a pole theme. Even a panel skirt would have corrected this while still showing plenty of leg during the turns.

  • LOVE the music (any ideas on which song it is?)

Love the beginning with the clapping hands.

Not so sure about the costumes, couldnt decide if they are too vegas or muppet show, but hey, its a free world!!!

  • BLASPHEMPHY! False bellydancers!

  • I loved ya gals! But damn the going out of focus :-(

  • It would be more appreciative if they wore panel skirts, especially the girl in the pink, to cover up their bottoms and cracks.

We as dancers need to take into consideration what's already being said about the art and have a care to when we do a presentation, and consider how it will affect those from a grander POV.

  • exactly !! What the hell was that ?.. I mean common .. is that where bellydancing is going ? And what the hell is tribal about it ? Creative.. yeah O.K , but still not my style of bellydancing , not tribal.Just trying to be sexy and original I guess...what ever !!

  • what the hell is this???

  • I like the costumes, they're very "Mouline Rouge"...

  • Not sure I care for the outfits, but the moves were nice.
