    lol

  • And I thought Bowie's version was good!!

  • Didn't know this was a McCoys original. :D Though I did discover this before the Bowie version. Great stuff!

  • @itlogcrusher I didn't know that either! I just listened to the McCoys version and can see why The Merseys had a bit hit with their version!

  • yeah but shanks was a jock...what the fuck would he know about merseybeat music!

  • you cannot help but love the 60s xx

  • UNDERRATED ALERT!

  • OMG this was the song my dad always sung to me

  • All comes back another great Mersey sound , Fantastic!

  • Status Quo did a good cover of this track in the 90s. It's on an album called Don't Stop.

  • One of the best punch packed singles from the mid 60's. That brass break just kicks ass, not to mention the drum sound - just perfect. PJ Proby's Hold Me had a similar vibe...full on.

  • Back to the music, This is a fab song by a fab group, Tezza the Manch....

  • Bowies was better vocally.

  • wonderful/ Geweldig

Bowie did a decent version of this on "pin ups"

  • There's some definite Beach Boys sound to this.

  • I remember this song so well, liked it then and like it now, it was sung by another band I think, wasn't the troggs was it ?

  • @josparkes1 I only know of the McCoys and David Bowie but not about the Troggs.Could be tho' but really dont know

  • @PURPLEBEATTIE1 Good choice !

  • My name is David Bowie and I prefer this one

P s that b*gger Jones stole my name

  • good version, ive heard a different version of this with more lead guitr all through the song but i dont know who done it, it sounds like the merseys,

  • Finaly found this song 'Sorrow' by The Merseybeats! That was their name! Used to have the 45 single but lost it. Great song!

  • Bowie murdered this in comparison altho i like Bowie too

  • With your long blonde hair and your eyes of blue... you're too much

  • brilliant I had long blonde hair and blue eyes -long time ago !!!!!!!!!

  • @benny266698 Hi benny, I had hair a long time ago, bold as a boiled egg now.

  • I know this is the original but i do prefer bowie, that is my personal opinion, but I am not really a fair judge as bowie is my idol and i would defend him to the end of the earth <3333333333333

  • I prefer the bowie version by far

  • brilliant

I bought this in 1966 and the very same day saw a girl fitting this very description......long blond hair and blue eyes. hmmmmm wonder what happened to her....

  • @sandyronnie

If it was my girlfriend, she married someone else. :(

  • @CaptainJimKirk -It was me ! -Ya can have her back now . ( PLEASE ! )

  • @CaptainJimKirk Yes me, honest still together. a lovely girl from Windsor.

  • @sandyronnie Her name was Renee, and she just walked away...

  • @sandyronnie Yes she really did marry me. Her name is Jacqui and we are still together. True I swear.

  • @sandyronnie now shes old :(

  • Excellent ......this takes me back to my mid teens............. thank you CaptainJimKirk for the play 5*****

  • Sorrow..................my copy of the 45rpm single got damaged and I wasn't able to replace it :(

  • brill 60`s track ....

  • short and sweet

  • dang this is a good example of 60s and bowie he has the 70s early 80s and queen takes thew 80s

  • this was the original version of the sixties by the merseys good song

  • Muito boa esta canção. Ouvia muito quando criança. Matei a saudade.

  • Best non-Beatles British pop single of 60s in my opinion-love it

  • The Merseybeats also recorded a nearly identical version. Odd that lawsuits weren't filed regarding both the song and the artist.

  • the original and the best!!

  • never heard of these guys, interesting version... not sure if I like it or not... thanks for posting

  • Waar blijft de video??

  • @dusty11111988

WYSIWYG - What you see is what you get!

It's all about the music, mate.

  • I thought I knew a bit about music but I did,nt know about this, only version I,d heard was Bowie,s, a friend told me to listen to this. Thanks for uploading.

  • @CaptainJimKirk Weet je ook wanneer dit nummer is uitgebracht?

  • Joey Molland of Badfinger played in the Merseys' back-up band.

  • it's all too much

  • @nezniel yeah, george harrison picks 1 line of this song in the closing of 'it's all too much'

  • Jane do you remember us going to see these guys? We really thought they were lovely x

  • Thanks for the info! I love it that so many really informed people post music on this site. I've learned a lot, and i thought i knew a lot, but i don't. Thanks again!

  • Great track...remember wearing out my old History Of British Rock lps and this was one of the top plays...prefer the McCoys original a bit, but this has a great drive...thanks for the share

  • what's the difference between the Mersey's and the Merseybeats? Were they both English?

  • The Merseybeats were founded by Tony Crane and Billy Kinsley in Liverpool in the late 'fifties, These are the the two lads on the Sorrow cover pic both of whom sang on the record. Tony and Billy survived with other musicians to form the Merseys after the original Merseybeats drummer John Banks sadly died prematurely, and Aaron Williams the second guitarist quit the band.

  • Awesome!

  • "Sorrow" was written by the New York songwriting team of Bob Feldman, Jerry Goldstein & Richard Gottehrer, who also performed as the Strangeloves. FG&G produced early recordings by the McCoys, who used "Sorrow" as the b-side of "Fever". The following year, 1966, the Merseys in the UK recorded it as an a-side (released in the US on Mercury, but no chart activity). Then David Bowie updated the song in late '73.

  • I did see them in 1966 and I remember them singing this classic, wow so long ago, have I been asleep?

  • They toured with the Who.

  • An absolute classic. All in 2.19. What a song!!!!

  • bowie version is not a patch on this

  • @benny266698 I agree, although if it wasn't for Bowie's version I would never have heard that. Bowie's version has a different sound. All credit to him for not simply cloning the song.

  • you got that right. The Merseys' "Sorrow" rules!

  • @benny266698 I liked this (the original) version, and Bowie's version later. I bought both. Equally good in their own ways, and for me, different memories to go with them. :) I found it was the same with 'Friday on my mind' by the Easybeats, and later by Gary Moore. Also Groovy kind of love was done well by Phil Collins. IMO. :)

  • @benny266698 It's not, yet Bowies version is usually played on the radio. Another inferior song always played on the radio is Roxy Music's 'Let's Work Together' which is vastly inferior to the original by Canned Heat which you never hear.

  • One of the greatest melodies and songs to be created ever. Even though I love the Beatles, I have to say that this is easily as good as if not better than a lot of their tunes. Perfect marriage of tune and words.

  • Excellent reply Captain Jim.

    Beam me up Scotty.

  • Takes me back to the days when music was all about the sound, and not how supper cool they look on a video, ;Bugger ;I sound like my dad did in the 60s.

  • I agree with you.

    And your dad!

  • @mdjdecorations I totally agree with you..well your dad brought you up well..LOL

  • @mdjdecorations I love old music brink it back Trve leeson sang at my 35 th party whatA great guy long live rock and roll

  • @mdjdecorations Hey, I know what you mean! I agree about Sixties being about how music "sounded" and whether or not you could dance to it. It is just that we have grown up and 45 years ago is a long time, but we cannot help it when a song instantly transports us back to a place in time.

  • @mdjdecorations I think that you meant "super" rather than supper!

  • HAHAHA!!! Finally someones posted this. Thankyou very very much indeed.

  • ha ryan! i found it!!!! haha lol ryan should have checked youtube!!!!

  • what a cool song ive always wonderd where it came from because pin ups is my favorite bowie album how clever and catchy

  • I just found out about this version, always heard Bowie's (which I like a lot). This is a great! And all this time I always thought George Harrison came up with the line "with your long blond hair and eyes of blue" in "It's All Too Much", lol.

  • Great song! It's really catchy.

    Thanks for posting this!

  • I like this version but Bowie's still kills it

  • Not even close...as Bowie has admitted.

  • noo way!! Bowie sings horrible on his version

  • An absolutely brilliant record!

  • The genius in this song is singing the verse after the bridge as a row. Genius!

  • I meant round!

  • could you explain me what you say about the verse after the bridge etc...

  • They have arranged it as a 'round'...

One singer starts singing "With your long blonde hair and your eyes of blue...the second singer starts singing the same thing... in the middle of the first singers verse...similar to 'Row Row Row Your Boat'. Simple but effective

  • i got it... thanks a lot.. cheers

  • Reminds me of Jack Lee's "Remember The Good Times". Both cool songs.

  • fantastic thanks for posting

  • Great tune !!!

  • I forgot all about this song until my daughter had a crush on a blond guy at school.

  • Good vid, Thanks 4 sharing!
