OK, as an official worshipper at the musical shrine of Joe Pass jazz guitar playing, I am happily shocked and amazed that I have not heard this before. I took classes with John Pisano in the late 1970's and loved Joe before I knew John had played with him for years. Carol, I am in awe of your cool sounds and funky lines - and jammin' with JP hip.
@JMGilberto while it's true that jamerson's version was used on the record,it is also true that motown and other labels often used several players at different sessions for the same tracks......i have no doubt that carol played i was made to love her,but they went with jamerson's version instead....
Well, it's not. Some of the funkiest bass lines in the '60's were layed down by her. Best example is Stevie Wonder - "I Was Made To Love Her". I started playing bass in soul bands in the late '60's and it took me a long time to get over the realization that I had been "OUTFUNKED" by a white girl.
@PeteZuranbeer Did you talk to Stevie about it? If you Know the difference in the SOUND of James Jamerson, and Carol Kaye, you'll know thats Not Carol on "I was made to love her" .She uses a pick, Jamerson uses his fingers. Google it,do some more research. I'm done with this argument. I still love her.
@msoileau83 she used thomastik flats ...IMHO u can tell who it is between her, jamerson, an babbitt by the tone...all of them used flats but carol was more precise and her sound had a leading edge to it the other 2 didn't have due to the pick and thomastiks. babbit was a master of hooks, and jamerson...well..like hendrix he was from another planet...and he rarely played on the 2....all great players.
so great. i had that vinyl for a while. it was a 10 inch, right?

She is a brilliant player, shame she had to try and take credit for JJ's work. It cheapens the halo around such a legend...

@PeteZuranbeer Proof? Look, I don't buy it. The bass on "I Was Made To Love Her" sounds like it was played with fingers, not a pick...
