While the band's manager mentioned some of the pressures on Syd, I think Syd had a good laugh over that old fart's comment of "Why is the music so loud". It's hilarious and the look Roger and Syd give each other is priceless.

I think Syd was stable enough to make the conscious decision to leave the music industry. Whether he was happy with that is another question. I mean, whether he would've fronted Pink Floyd or had an amazing solo career, he had to have thought many times "What if..." during the years. Especially with how big Pink Floyd got.

I'm glad Bowie found Sid's being 'not quite with us' so charming. For crying out loud, the poor guy (Syd) was mentally unstable and really suffered a really ruined life. But Bowie found him very appealing. Nice.

He asked a perfectly sensible question, and Roger answered him perfectly. Older people couldn't stand new music because there wasn't a lot of noise around when they grew up. To us it's normal. Noone is right or wrong. It's just the way it is. If you weren't exposed to a lot of noise when growing up, you would ask the same thing.

Bowie made a cover of "see Emily play", released on the 1973 album Pinups (it's listed in the box on the right side).

Anyway,

Syd Barrett was a tragic person and I think Bowie compares him to Peter Pan to keep up some hope (for himself and us fans) that Syd may have found another place where he could be lucky...

Nobody ever wants to consider that Syd possibly intentionally turned his back on a greedy, bloodsucking industry and would rather concentrate on the "He went bonkers" theory.
