my pops walked out my front door when i was 2, and he never came back, i didn't hear from him till my grandpa died many many years later becoz he flew in for the funeral, he talked to me of some of his experiences, he talked to me about prison, but he never told me why he left, he started giving me and my older sister money I imagine to try and buy into our lives, he even stayed after the funeral till after fathers day, i didn't see him on fathers day, instead i got high, he missed out on a son

Men that are locked up for a long time that never seen their kid are scared to go see the child for fear of hate and dislike. it is his fault for screwing up, going to jail and missing out on ur childhood. but to forgive is to be free. at least u have a dad. make it work. I tell my wife every day to find her dad before it's too late.

Both my parents died in a car accident when i was 2 months old and i was adopted by a loving woman that ive come to know as my mom, im almost 18 now and whenever i hear this song i can't help but bawl my eyes out and wish I had a father like the other kids growing up, I've never known a fathers love and it just makes me so sad to see all these children these days talking about how they hate their parents because they can't stay out late, or have designer clothes when all I want is my parents

I heard this song earlier tonight, while in Ricky's restaurant with my girlfriend. I started tearing up near the end, and couldn't finish my meal.

My father left me for another family when i was a year old. Before i moved across Canada, i lived with him for a few months when i was 18.

I still don't know who my father is. I don't know his birthday, i don't know his favorite color. I don't even know my grandfathers name.

My Dad used to sing this to me whilst playing the Guitar when i was a Kid... I always wanted to have the chance to play it back to him when i was older and accomplished on the guitar.

Sadly he passed away at christmas aged just 60, i never got the chance to play it back to him due to one thing or another... quite apt really giving the theme of the song.

Just to clear it up...it's about a dad who had a son but never really had time for him, then the son still idolized his dad and loved him. When the dad got older he realized what he missed out on and regretted it. And he always wanted his son to be like him, then he found out he was and it'd depressing.
