  • They say he was a hell of a guy to. Grounded, genuine , gave to many charities, quite a handsome guy too.

  • haha i love red skelton! he is hilareous!!

  • Oh, for the old comedians.... so funny, so talented, without being disgusting and insulting to the ears!! Miss them much.

  • "Good night and may God bless."

  • Love Red Skelton!

  • Love Tred Skelton!

  • My mother loved Red. She would watch him, Lawence Welk, and Perry Mason every week

  • Is there a funnier line on youtube than, "....really ? I give up. " Nearly fell from the chair, here. Thanks for the great WML posts!!!!!!

  • R u a comedian? No. Lol funny. Ol red was a clown a simple funny man not a comedian. However the comedians we have nowadays will never hold a candle in the wind to the late great red skeleton. Nobody will ever be as good nor match his style of clowning. Or if u prefer in comedy.

  • The worlds funniest funny man. Americas clown prince. The original of originals. The best ever. Love ol RED SKELTON

  • I had forgotten how delightful Red Skelton was...my Father used to sit with tears of laughter streaming down his face, every week, and we enjoyed it with him. As he held down a very stressful job, and suffered an anxiety state, we were greatful to see him enjoy something so much...Red was irresistibly infectious....delicious

  • This is a marvelous show to see! I love 50 tv!

  • A gentle genius. What a great put on!

  • Jeez, Red was using a John Daly voice!

  • "Yes I have stolen quite a bit of your material." LMAO

  • Thanks for this wonderful clip. Fred and Red would have made a terrific duo.

  • OMG...I STILL laugh at their jokes! I am SO GLAD we have outlets like youtube and people who download their "stuff" so we can watch it. BTW: The old stuff is WAY funnier......

  • OMG, Red "Skellington". lol

  • One of the funniest comedians and great persons ever!

  • the man

  • That was a great voice he was doing.

  • Red Skelton is the funniest and most original ever. He didn't have to use the durt that today's so called comedians to in order to get a laugh. I'm so happy that we have videos of him so his talent can still be enjoyed.

  • Red Skelton was always a clown.

  • That is what I call HUMOR! Humor from movies like Anchorman or Austin Powers (funny as they are) could not compete with that of Fred Allen and Skelton. All people have to do now is make themselves look like complete idiots and it's "hilarious". True humor takes wit.

  • LoL yellow streak up his back.... love this young Red Skelton.

  • Hey, I'm from Copenhagen :0) Great comedian.

  • I've loved red ever since i was in 3rd grade, 5 years ago. I dressed up in an awesome costume as Freddie the freeloader in 4th grade. I picked him for a project in school where we had to pick a famous person from Indiana and dress up as them in a living wax museum. Red is the best!

  • @LovinLifeNow23 My grandma works at a school that does that each year. That is fantastic! And I must agree, he has to be one of the greatest actors to come out of Indiana!

  • omg....all you younger generations, I love that you know Red Skelton. When he died I was just beginning middle school. When my parents found out, they were inspired to get a few of his videos for me to watch. I've been hooked ever since. He is, and always will be, my favourite comedian. Praise you all for speaking no ill of Red Skelton, America's #1 Clown.

  • Red Skelton...a decent, patriotic, funny man. Truly was a national treasure.

  • i ♥ Red Skelton.

  • We have Red...People now have Pink. red is cooler!

  • He was such a nice man. I always remember, "Good night and may God bless!"

  • I grew up watching Red Skelton on TV. This episode was presented 2 months before I was born. I wish I could have known the comedy of Fred Allen but, he died when I was 2.

  • @imsixftsix Red Died when I was 1. I feel your pain.

  • @MadsNoble You mean you're only 14 and you know who Red Skelton is?? That warms my heart- thank God the classic comedians are being kept alive.

  • @SIMPFANN i also know who he is, he's better than any other comedian (im 14 too)

  • Comment removed

  • @SIMPFANN I'm 13 now and I loved him when I was 10 ^.^ Dad got a video of some of his greatest works and i loved it. i still want a cauliflower mcpugg t shirt lol

  • Red and a few other of the so-called "old-time comedians" can do what very few modern comedians can.... Tell a story that will have you laughing until your sides ache without uttering one profanity. *THAT* my friends, is TALENT!

  • @Xeuvious Groucho Marx said in an interview that anybody can say something dirty and get a laugh. He then added the challenge, "Say something clean and get a laugh. That requires a comedian". The comedians of that era were far more resourceful than those of today, and they got good, honest laughs.

  • "Yes, I have stolen quite a bit of your material". Freds reaction to that was legendary.

  • Gee.... I wish I was 16......again. Nice to hear that Red is appreciated and again thx for posting this with Fred Allen! Great show.

  • He is my great uncle! :) too bad he died before I could visit him :(

  • Among the top five greatest comedians of all time!

  • I love his dimples!!!

  • Red always seemed kinda mean to me. I always preferred Jack Benny. When the jokes stunk on Red's show you seemed to get the idea he was gonna chew out the writers whereas Benny made light of bad jokes and you'd laugh at it. Fred Allen was also great at it too.

  • I wonder. When I was a child in the 70's I got to grow up watching Red Skelton and Danny Kaye movies or reruns with my Grandparents. They were genuinely funny people who transcended age groups. Are there anyone comparable today for kids? I sure hope so.

  • @Lennon4life1968 I don't know if there are any clean, funny people like him. I think Sinbad is similar, but I don't know.

  • @xander7ful check out Brian Regan. He doesn't use any swears in his comedy and is very funny.

  • Red is classic!

  • The look at 3:54 is priceless.

  • Its amazing how Red Skeleton made his voice sound like Mr. Daily.

  • @mayln163 I think his Daly voice is the best mystery guest voice on WML, second only to Elizabeth Taylor's squeaky Kansas voice.

  • @xander7ful i lyk his better than Lizzy's

  • Excellent. Thanks very much.

  • My favorites of his was Willy Lump Lump and the Bad Widdle Kid.

  • @Floatie114 My brother called his son, "Willy lump lump" after he fell and cut his tongue. I had no idea that was from Red S! Thanks.

  • What a great performance. Red is the best!

  • What a great man

  • I'm only 19 but I saw him bout a month ago and i think he is absolutely hilarious.

  • @patnelson I am 13, I some how found him, and I also have been watching him.

  • 1:11 Returning from Copenhagen is probably a reference to having a sex change operation

  • In respect to Mr. Red Skelton as he answered he was not a comedian it was because he wasn't he considered himself a clown and he was the best I ever seen

  • @eyelagel exactly what I thought too.

  • I'm only sixteen but I still find Red Skelton by far the funniest comedian dead or alive. People my age would usually disregard his classic comedy. They would rather give a gold medal to Dane Cook, who won't really have such presence as

  • @rawkCORE you know im 16 as well and i have to completely agree Dane Cook aint got nothing on Red

  • @rawkCORE I couldn't agree with you more. I too am sixteen and am always looking back to this era finding inspiration for many modern day comedians. This was the golden age of comedy where originality and friendly jabs filled the air waves and television screens. Truly, some of the greatest comics and also Americans prospered in this time.

  • @rawkCORE I am the 16 and feel the exact same way.

  • @rawkCORE I'm fourteen and I think he is definatly in the top five.

  • @rawkCORE im 17 and LOVE the old comics, i love the old singers, the old actors! I think theyre great! :)

  • @rawkCORE goodjob for being different you must feel special.

  • @rawkCORE ive been preachin the same for 10 years...im sixteen TY so much for speakin the truth

  • @rawkCORE I was about to type something exactly like this but you just summed it up so well lol

  • @rawkCORE You're full of it and you know it, have you even been on the internet? Half of it hates Dane Cook...

  • @rawkCORE Pfft. I agree with you 100% and I am 16 years old now. But I think Lucille Ball is by far the best. Red is my second favorite.

  • What a joy to watch! When I was a kid in the 60's, I recall watching his TV show every Tuesday night with my family. We would often be on the floor laughing. The late great Red was one of the GIANTS of comedy! He is sorely missed. THANKS so very much for sharing this hilarious gem with us! :)

  • This is one of my all time favorite What's My Line episodes. The banter between Red and Fred is priceless!! I particular love Red's line "Yes, I have stolen a lot of material". That line is an absolute hoot! You could tell Fred knew exactly who it was when Red said that!! Classic,, classic old time TV. We love you Red and Fred and we miss you.

  • Best of his time. inspired me to do comedy and comedic acting.

  • Red Skelton is the best !

  • i love love red skeltion

  • long live Red!

  • Hes my 4th cousin :)

  • Love Red's comedy. This is before my time, but my mom showed it to us one time. Now that my siblings & I have kids, we've shown the tapes to our kids and they LOVE IT! Good clean stuff you can watch as a family. It's great.

  • I sat here and laughed my butt off!!!

  • My favorite comedian. Love this guy. "Are you a comedian?" "NO!"

  • And with a straight face!! That's so funny.

  • Oh how we need another like this one.

  • "I think most of today's comedians are victims of laughter...they get nervous and resort to an insult or a four-letter word for a quick, cheap laugh. That goes on night after night until the whole act is cheapened. But that doesn't last. Usually, a couple of years later they are remembered only as the old what's-his-name who used all the dirty words."

Red Skelton. (This was one of the best lines I've ever heard anyone say about anything. Long live Red Skelton)

  • Likeable. That's something most comics strove for. In the case of Red Skelton, the appropriate word would be ... lovable. Corny as Kansas in August he was, but deliciously corny.

  • I love Arlene's laugh right at 3:50!!

    So cute :]]

    Ahh this was hilarious.

  • Red is AWESOME! One of the funniest commedians ever!

  • Two of the greats! Fred & Red!!!

  • This is a great show hehe.

  • wonderful comic R.I.P. red we love and miss you!

  • 'Really? I give up.'

    LOL

  • Genuine, spontaneous, clean...the BEST!

  • Red does a great impression on Mr. Daly

  • Art Carney does Daly, too, but not as well.

  • I don't understand the Copenhagen comment.

  • It refers to the recent news of Christine Jorgenson coming back after having a sex-change operation in Copenhagen (changing from man to woman). Copenhagen was where sex reassignment procedures were first done.

  • Mr. Allen's "I give up" sends it over the top. Sensational!!

  • Love it. thanks

  • The impression of John Charles Daly just floors me!

  • "i give up" fred kills again

  • Fred Allen and Red Skelton sparing on live TV. Let's see the comedy network try to top that. Fortunately, the influence of Allen and Skelton still reverberates through the comedy firmament. Skelton thought of himself as a comic or a clown, so that accounts for his answer to that point.

This was the 2nd appearance of Fred Allen as the new panelist after Steve Allen left WML for Tonight. I suspect Skelton's Copenhagen remark made the CBS censors bite right through their pipes.

  • @soulierinvestments

Most today wouldn't know what the Copenhagen remark was even about. Not really their fault since it was nearly 60 years ago.

  • @grabit1 What was it about?

  • @bingbongstar The world's first widely-known sex-change operation. George Jorgensen became Christine Jorgensen.
