This is a fascinating man, extremely intelligent, perceptive, courageous, full of common sense, and he has certainly done better than I in this world. Just the fact that he is as intelligent as he is, proves beyond a doubt to me that there is an entity somewhere that controls better than humans. I do believe this entity has turned away and is allowing something to work its course. If I could pick someone to be by my side as an adviser during the coming events, it would be this man. Wow

What he forgets is that by not voting, you leave the opportunity for the worst people to gain more power. In life you can't always get what you want, you take what you can get. If you want freedom and real change, I say give Ron Paul a chance in 2012.

@dgl1962 Yes, it was a great misfortune to be raised among wealthy, vacuous, boring assholes in a sterile suburb lacking in cultural amenities. Suburbs are her filled with typical asshole, self absorbed suburbanites obsessed with their punk kids boring sports teams, their fucking cars and their televisions. The suburbs lack any interest. Thoreau was right when he stated that most men lead lives of quite desperation and he surely meant most especially suburbanites. Many suburbs now have thugs.

@dgl1962 I had the horrible misfortune of growing up in a wealthy, nice suburb of Chicago and left to move downtown right out of high school as did many of my friends. Actually the trend in many nice urban areas is the better people moving downtown and the thugs migrating to the 'burbs. The days of vacuous, wasteful, suburban living are numbered for many reasons, including oil supply, among many others.

@dgl1962 You are probably right and so was Alexis de Tocqueville who predicted that this might happen. Check out Andrew Klavan on the Culure on Youtube. He is hilarious and he makes a reference to democracy being susceptible to goverment essentially buying off the public and also mentions that de Tocqueville predicted it back in the mid- 1800's.

@dgl1962 I have become more Libertarian as well or at least more anti-Repbulican. Repubs are devoid of leadership for the most part at least among the current crop of presidential wannabe's. I wish that someone other than Ron Paul could faithfully articulate Libertarianism. He has some good ideas but is kind of nuts on some issues.

He is nuts on *which* issues? He is completely in line with libertarianism on MOST issues. If anything, his propagation of the constitution (and states rights) still makes him too statist. Lysander Spooner has explained perfectly why the constitution has no moral authority.

If anybody would truly faithfully articulate true libertarianism, he'd sound even more "nutty" than Ron Paul, because RP still makes some compromises here and there.

It is a form of government or sociopolitical philosophy, like all others, that can easily devolve into anarchy, although the potential for libertarianism to do so falls probably somewhere in between the potential for left wing collectivism of the late 19th/early 20th centuries, that led to Hitler, Mao, Stalin and even Woodrow Wilson in this country, to do so and representative democracy which we now witness devolving throughout the developed world.

Doug is right, regarding a decayed republic without jury rights, and without proper elections (as the US now is). But he's surprisingly short-sighted about understanding that this situation is not static, it is simply resistant to change. Unfortunately, Doug's prescribed course of action makes the situation more resistant to change, because the current situation is informational, and obeys the logic of crowd thresholds. Casey's prescription reduces the likelihood of exponential libertarianism
