It's actually not midnight, because of daylight savings time, Sydney celebrates NYE at 11:00 pm

no... it's not, it is only midnight in Sydney according to the clocks.

Daylight savings time doesn't mean you change the position of the sun in relation to the earth.

It may be midnight on the clocks, but at 11:00pm, that is when the sun is directly at the opposite side of the globe, so really 11:00 is midnight.

Believe me, I live in Brisbane, we don't have daylight savings time, we are in the same time zone as Sydney and Sydney celebrates NYE an hour earlier than we do.
