  • Firstly, hilarious first 2 minutes. I know I told u this in a private message, but to have ur own website is key in the coming months/years. I think of mine as a base.

FINALLY got Encore and intend to learn/use it to host my vids in a dvd menu without the use of YT. A Myspace music page hosts my demos. Everywhere else - Netlog, Facebook, flickr, etc., basically links to my site.

  • I feel lucky to have started web design/development study in 2000, years before any public display of self was "cool."

Scripting is NOT easy and there's more to go (html, css, javascript, php, mysql, actionscript for flash, xml, etc).

Anyway, I'm rambling, but where are we going u ask? Hehehehe. That's exactly what I'm online to talk about.

OH and Xtube. You forgot Xtube. lol

  • Twitter = permitted stalking hehe!

    : )

  • Man, I feel like such a Luddite. This reminds me of growing up in Los Angeles, where everyone was chasing the latest thing and never stopping to catch their breath. Speaking of which,I felt out of breath just watching this video. Think I'll go fishing instead, less 'clutter'.

  • I know this can get out of hand! 12 seconds is really cool! Thanks to you, I was able to get my real first name as my username: elizabeth!

  • i need more than 12 second...please fart on cam for us phil.

  • I love twitter so much. I think my tragic flaw is that I REALLY want an invite to 12 seconds but I did not receive one and now I feel left out. That is in my head and my issue to deal with, however. I can't work stickam and it greatly perplexes me. I wonder what Beverley would tweet?

  • "The internet TALK -- was great FB" Livewire- :P

  • lol digital plants and shrubs? Yowser.

  • Really like this vid, Phil. Yes there is an explosion of so many sites ...hard to keep track...amazing is the internet. I have been getting into the various ezine sites lately.

  • Oh and don't forget Tailcast and NING. I don't know where the hell we are going and how long we'll be there. I'm just enjoying the ride. Interesting and humorous thoughts here Phil. I enjoyed listening to you.

  • hows your apnea going phil?

  • LOL @ the glory hole comment.

  • I really enjoy your videos. I could friend everywhere and such but I'd rather stay here. Nice colab!

  • did i hear a vibrator at 25sec/2:56 min ??? lolol KD

and yea. I am really confused on MySpace and facebook. I have account on them but never used them....

  • yeah i stay on YT mostly...stickam a lil...blogtv a lil...myspace a lil...lol its too much!

  • I'm sorry I watched 12 seconds and then forgot that over here things are longer :)

what I like about 12 seconds is i can check my friends page in less than an hour and because you only have 12 seconds, it seems to get some thoughts.

I don't get facebook or Twitter. I am on friendster but haven't given it much time.

Oh just in case you run out of 12 second invites, what i did was send myself one on my other email so i had 20 invites instead of 10. Yes I'm a cheater

  • I'm not really a 12 sec sort of person...

Just ask my wife (RavenSky23), I'm good for at least twice that. ;)

  • I think of all the social networking phenomena, YouTube is the most valuable.

Shoot me a 12 second account invite if you can.

  • I'm a member of Dumpster, where friends send photo dumps (in real time) of their dumps. It isn't often pretty, but at least it's relevant!

  • Billion dollar Idea !

  • Waterproof web cams are already available.

  • lol, nice little collab there-I think you could have done it in under 10 secs ;)

  • I can spare 12 seconds lol!

That's a lot of sites you're a part of, I mostly whittled down my online activity to just YT (I used to post in a few forums too), although I do have myspace and recently facebook-which I only use to get in touch with old school friends, which is cool for a minute to hear from someone I haven't seen in years, but then I never kept in touch with them since school, and after the 'wow haven't seen you in ages' thing wears off there's not a lot else to say lol!

  • I don't really use much more that YouTube and Facebook, I do have a Stickam account, but have yet to use it.

Nice 12 second video, by the way.

  • Good vid Phil. I was wondering what this 12 Seconds thing was... -Russ

  • It's funny - but your voice and topics always mesmerize me! I love your videos.

  • Great video Phil. I've covered just this topic myself recently & have pretty similar opinions to you on this. Where will it all end?

See you over at alfalfa, or whatever it's called!! :)

  • I couldn't agree more about YouTube. Even though I'm not posting videos actively anymore, I still love the community. One of the best out there.

I must say Phil, your take on social networking sites is not only hilarious, but hits the nail on the head for most. I haven't heard of half of these websites but I guess the social network sticking's pretty much true.

    Cheers Phil,

    Dustin

  • lol and by the way is that a phone vibrating in the backround?

  • I just can't get into all that other shit. I like to make and watch videos, but I also try to be productive in other ways, and MySpace doesn't count.

  • This was great Phil. What I don't get is the reason why only 12 seconds are allowed? Apparently Andy Mooseman checked it out and the reason given was that anything over 12 seconds was deemed to be boring. Check out his video Phil, it really clicks with this one.

  • I have accounts at all of those thingies (except 12 seconds - I didn't get an invite boo hoo!) but don't really use any of them - facebook is a total mystery and time waster, twitter is just for stalking the same people you stalk everywehere else!

    Nice collab LOL

    PS you are looking good!

  • I only have YouTube and , coupled with absolutely no desire to vtenture outside of that.

First/last time on Stickam I saw a guy getting killed, livevideo and the other imitators are a bit ridiculous, twitter frightens me and sounds completely vapid and as far as the new ones go, I'll let others try them out to see what they think of them.

I honestly use Facebook as a place to catch up with old friends and that's all. I log in once a week, if that. YouTube is my home, and I like it.

    Peace FB.

  • Loved it! :D I just signed up for BlogTV and Stikam this month myself.

  • MIKMA WAS HERE

  • thank you for this post...i appreciate it because I didn't know about these other online social networking and I trust your thoughts...I'm saved from too much trouble...thank you.

  • I think it definitely is the case that people make contacts they wouldn't make without their PCs, but overall it seems to me the more time we spend using this crap, the less time we spend in more meaningful and engaging real life activities, especially social ones. I'm seriously thinking about decomputerising myself altogether. Nice video. You raise some questions needing raised. :)

  • There ya' go. Very pithy, indeed.

  • Wow, I'm worn out just thinking about all of that! Facebook just annoys the daylights out of me. I dropped it because it just seemed like a way for more sponsors to get my email address. MySpace I use to keep up with family members and a couple of friends. Most of the rest is more than I care to mess with. But then what the heck - most people my age can barely email! LOL. Nice to see you Phil - I've missed your clarity of thought.

  • great vid. I rewatched this imagining I was was my grandmother and I think she would say that you sound like a crazy man. :)

  • they're all hard to keep up with,

i have trouble enough keeping up with youtube.

    great insight phil

    how's your summer been going?

  • best 12 seconds ever! haha

  • I think the best alternative to making friends and meeting new people is to combine real life and the net, preferably real life more than the net. Great friendships can come from YT, etc., but we do need to get out in the real world too. A nice mixture makes for a happy well balanced life, IMHO. Hope you are feeling well these days!

  • I also find myself diving into the newest net crazes. Twitter entertains me to no end.

  • All right! Phil, you look tanned, rested, and ready! Sleep program and sunshine seems to be doing you a world of good! Miss talking to you!

  • Phil you crack me up with your wit and dry sense of humor! I'll head over to the new place and give you 12 seconds of my life. lol -Jim

  • glory hole....lol.... that's special.

  • Five Stars Man!

  • I enjoy them all. But also can find it a bit overwhelming. Thanks Phil. : )

  • Great thoughts!

  • hi phil hope all is well with you and your health ! going to 12 seconds now .

  • I just assume seeing you in person... btw hows the sleep thing going sorry haven't been around much been a lil under the weather myself.

  • LMAO @ Glory hole!

I cant keep up with them all either.

  • The 12sec collab was a work of art in my book ;0)

  • maybe I should just send you an icon of some money, that way Baby when you sitting around with your plant icons you can feel, not just green, but rich too.

  • ooh,just wanted to add, u look different! :)

    have nice day now:)

  • i have myspace and facebook haha, but i dont go there much, only when i get mesages and things, gah :/

i think the icons are charitable :)

    i have stickam too :)

yet twitter is an absolute nono for me haha, strange isnt it! :D

i see you everyday! but i think maybe we should find a new gloryhole

  • I keep up with very little, least of all all the 'spaces and 'sters and 'books out there but I'm at least glad that you're able to keep up with the one thing that matters, Youtube, so that compels me to keep up with it as well.

  • did you just come out? LOL! :-0

  • ....I was about to send you a shrub :(

  • I'm noJungleKiss on YouTube, Livevideo, Stickam, Vimeo, Blip, Sevenload, Metacafe, and Dailymotion. YouTube is the only place I know for quality subscriptions. The others are just there for me to upload stuff. Otherwise, I just ignore them.

  • So many "Stalking" sites, so little time! ^_-

  • Great video, good points. :D

  • I think I'm logged in at most of the same places (and perhaps for most of the same reasons).

LOL @ your comments about Facebook & Twitter - DITTO!

The collaboration video turned out beautifully, Phil. Thanks for asking me to be in that.

  • Saw a facebook page where the holder had 780 friends. I worked in a dep't store for 8 years, the store had a mere 350 employees, and I never learned all their names. So I think we're watering down the definition of 'friend.'
