In noir the characters are always three dimensional, at least in good noir. See examples as Chinatown, The Maltese Falcon, Brick, LA Confidential, Double Indemnity, Sunset Boulevard and others. There were NEVER any one dimensional characters in the classic noir films.

Also saying "it's based on the comic" or "based on stylization" etc. doesn't excuse the fact the majority of the characters are one dimensional. i don't care about the questionable morals, the vast majority of films

Have characters like that. What I don't like is all the characters are either really good or really evil. Noir is about shades of grey. It's obvious Miller doesn't understand noir. I did like Harttigan though. Awesome character and Willis was awesome in the role. I think the actors did what they could. The Rutger Haur, Nick Stahl and Powers Boothe charters were all one dimensional and boring though, as much as I like the actors.
