I'm Australian. Valve had to release a 'clean' version for us because our game rating agency does not recognise an 'R' or and 'X' rating. This means that any game that is above MA is refused classification, resulting in the prohibition of its sale.

We Australian gamers have been trying for years to fix this by introducing an R rating, but the admin is headed by old fogies and beaurocrats.

That said, this version is still pretty damn good, even if it was a big departure from the original.

This is not to just fill people's bloody gorey lust of murder and rage...they do that to add realism (though somethings are not really realistic) if you shoot somebody from 5 feet away with a 12 gauge shot gun its going to completely fuck them up. Although I agree with you, I think you misunderstand the incentive people have in censoring Left 4 Dead 2 here in Australia.

It's not about making it "kid-friendly", but fighting a tide of increasing bloodlust in modern society. The rising desire of people for more and more gratuitous levels of violence in video games and movies is... well, I don't care what you say it's really f**king unhealthy.

We're way, way too desensitized. But yeah, we still need an R Rating.
