@insylem Yes, it's intentional. I keep my blades and vanes cool. It's fuel sprayed in after the wheels and I don't do it at much more than 75% power. it actually slows me down burning fuel in the exhaust. Thermal choking and temps too high
That's the S. Carolina "flag" on the left of the van on the ground!!!! The palmetto and star.... It must be SC cause thats all thats down here is crappy 1/8 mile tracks!!!
@71dormie I've been around. I've been to many races in South Carolina. It's the best drag racing in the whole world bar none. You know why? The NHRA isn't allowed in SC and I hope it stays that way! NHRA Assholes!
Respond to this video... BTW there's some good 1/4 mile tracks in SC. If you got something bad to say about SC's drag racing then you don't know dick about drag racing.
lolno. Helicopter engines don't propel things by thrust, even tho they are jet engines. They actually turn a shaft, you can see this shaft going into a gearbox before the burnout.
@TestECull You're right, the original driveline is intact and stock. The turbine drives the rear wheels. What I do is put the original driveline in drive, then hold the brake really hard, then bring the turbine up to 100%, and when it's time to go Ilet off the brake and floor the original motor
My understanding is that you can't use a clutch for turbines because any disconnect of the tires from the engine will cause it to overrev instantly. So an automatic transmission/torque converter is used.
Wheel driven 11.17 @ 113 mph. It hooks (most of the time) because of all the weight on the rear wheels and the way the turbine builds power. We're confident there's a 10 second run in the thing with a little work.
1.78 60 foot. It's only 113 because the governer on the turbine kicks in about 3/4 of the way doen the track. Best 1/8th mile is 7.14 at 103 so I should be close to high 10's at a much higher speed once I get everything adjusted.
there's a transfer case that can be put in neutral but it stays in gear when the turbine is started. The turbine wheel that is connected to the rear wheels is seperate from the turbine wheels that drive the compressors in the front of the engine. With enough braking force he turbine that is connected to the wheels can be held still while the engine is brought up to 100% power. I lock just the front wheels for burnouts and lock all the wheels for launch.
I'm really hopeing those flames from the exhaust were a intentional modification, otherwise you could really toast that turbine

It also still has the original minivan engine driving the front wheels... sickest caravan EVER.
CDMVette 2 years ago
how can that be possible, the jet has no linkages to the wheels...
buzzin92 2 years ago
A redution gearbox, linked to the rear wheels? A turboshaft at a guess??
kinsley2108 2 years ago
yes sir
krugtech 2 years ago
@buzzin92 its a helicopter engine so it has an output shaft

It's probably AWD. Something tells me they left the original driveline in the front and just leave that in neutral when using the turbine engine.

The best use of a minivan I have ever seen. Is it a daily driver?

with exhaust temps that high... I'd almost feel sorry for any tailgaters.

I would love to see what would happen if you parked a Saturn behind that van and lit it off.

What type of clutched mechanism is used to disconnect the rear wheels from the turbine output?
On a separate note, why did you choose mechanical linkage vs. converting the engine to thrust for propulsion?

That makes perfect sense. Loaded vs Unloaded mechanical acceleration.

This van is AWESOME!! What is the best 1/4 mile time/MPH this thing has gone?
I can't believe it's actually hooked to the wheels I assumed it was simply thrust alone

You can have a ride
krugtech 3 years ago
Wow thats pretty quick, but it is the opposite of what I thought, I figured it would MPH very hard up top...how come it's going only 113?
Whats the 60 foot out of curiousity?

Do you use a clutch or torque converter to connect the prop shaft to the rear wheels?
