Actually, they have blocked their own artists on several occasions. Take, for example, Death Cab for Cutie. Their videos, once released on YouTube, were blocked by WMG.

We can do one, or both, of these things: a petition and/or a boycott. If you can't take this anymore, take this comment and paste it to every muted YouTube video. This can't go on. This is a clear example of greed, and desperation.

Speak up, be heard, and don't stop for anything, because the moment you do, that's their victory.

Actually most record contracts state that the record company owns the music, not the artist (with a few exceptions here and there). You even need their permission to perform the music you may have written yourself. That´s the music business for you.
