Just love his stuff. Too bad the record stores seem to be closing as their stock is very limited for this genre. Have to buy online now. Hope he comes to Hamilton soon.
WOW! Two of the best blues innovators in Canada! Carlos & Rick Fines together! Just does not get any better than this. Carlos is a master & has so much control & creative juice. Same with Rick!
Just read few of your comments and I have to agree with what KudzuRunner said, as well as my significant other Mojo Willie who plays harmonica wanted me to let you know that he thinks that you do the best version of "Just your fool'. I agree!!!! shhh don't tell him that he plays that song for me allot haha!!!
What I love about Carlos's playing is that, for all his incredible technique, overblows etc., he knows exactly what he's trying to achieve aesthetically. He's got an original voice, a breathy, insouciant, skipping-and-dancing thing that sticks in the mind. It's never just about technique with him. Fantastic phrasing, double stops, octave leaps, the whole package. Contemporary harp doesn't get much better than this
Talked with him at a show in Buffalo (tudor lounge) Great guy and probably the best living talent that can play any style from straight out blues to jazz. He can play the wrong key harp and bends the notes to fit. He's a true virtuoso.
Absolutely! Though I like Carlos tonality abit better, but Levy certainly can play. Check out Jerome Godboo live in tel-Aviv, he's pretty hot too. He used to front a band in Toronto called "The Phantoms". Also check out their vid "The Phantoms/dutch mason-who do you love" Peace
Love Carlos. My friend won a harmonica from him. Saw him in Saskatoon with a phenomenal bass player and guitar player. Wish they would make a CD together. I wish that night would never have ended.
carlos is in a class by himself. Technically the most phenomenal player around and great person. His live performances can be thrilling. Too bad the talent has not been equalled by commercial success... Buy his cd's they are all great. rockin rich
Sweet and clean. What's attractive is the flow of notes, the Paul Desmond like legato. If he could combine his Lee Oskar like tone with Howard Levy's thorough mastery, we'd have an unbeatable combination. All the same, deJunco is a superb player, one of the best I've come across.
no... i was just cranky because someone else had dissed a completely different musician i adore. oops. sorry. (but i do continue to stand by carlos.) my apologies for the uncecessary "moisture"...
Carlos Del Junco is awesome for sure! Make sure you buy ALL his CD's! I'm always looking forward to his next release. I hope to see him live some day!
Carlos is a true monster of the instrument, had the pleasure to catch his show live, hes got some incredible chops and flawless technique. There was only one player that could amaze me more than Carlos did,Jason Ricci, if you are a rocknroll fan like me make sure to watch his videos, if you only like Blues check him out too,he´s played some of the coolest solos I´ve ever heard.
The first time I saw this guy was at a folk festival in Hamilton, Ontario where he is from and I was totally blown out of my tree! I cannot imagine anyone being able to play harmonica better than Del Junco can in so many different styles. He has won the world blues and Jazz categories in Harmonica several times. The guy should be much more famous than he is. He's phenomenal.
What A hack, this guy couldn't hold a candle to Gerome Godboo or David Rotundo

gotta put Howard Levy in that conversation. . . . .that man can play anything . . . even heard some heavy metal harp from him once!!!!!

Carlos has musical taste, technique and timing. Most of younger harpsters are so predictable and really can't carry his ChapStick.

I think Carlos plays mainly a pucker style, but incorporates TB'ing in his playing.

is he a puckerer or plays he tongueblocked mostly?
