my first turkey hunt in my life (a week ago) was the boss hen of 45 turkeys...it took 7 shots, 47 bb's in the head and neck, to kill this thing because it was running away, but it had an 8 inch beard but it was a really thick beard, not just long a lot of huge toms came in, but a deer scared them away
sorry , didnt know.. in my area in newyork you can take either sex in the fall .. i got a hen last fall it was awesome a little more challenging because there heads are smaller .. just curious but what were you using?
In this video I was using a Remington 870 with 3 1/2 inch #6 shot. Thats a big overkill but I like put 'em down hard. Congrats on taking the hen last fall ! Dont forget to rate and subscribe if you havent already !
In Oklahoma it is perfectly legal as long as they have a beard. If she didnt have a beard it would not be legal. I made 100% sure she had a beard before I shot. Make sure and check regulations for your state before you take a shot at a hen of any kind!
I havent ever takin a bearded hen before and thats only because I have never seen one.How is that unethical?Hes keepin the tom to hen ratio in check like he said and the toms that u saw are gonna be bigger next year.U did read (bearded hen) in the video discription didnt u?That meant a bearded hen was gonna die.Good job man.
Like I said it was one of my goals. I've taken plenty of long beards but have only seen a few bearded hens. I probably wont harvest another hen but I dont regret taking this one.
As far as ethics go.....Turkeys are not unlike deer and in some studies I've read they encourage harvesting hens as a way to keep the toms to hen ratio on check. Your welcome to your own opinion but I see nothing unethical about harvesting a bearded hen (especially if its a one time thing).
We could go on and on. If you dont agree thats fine. It is legal here and I see nothing unethical about it. I do see your point and taking a bearded hen is not something I would do yearly or ever again.
Nice! I've probably shot 4 or 5 bearded hens

Why in the hell would you pass up a couple of nice toms like those to kill a hen most likely carrying eggs? I know it's legal but is it ethical?

Not during the spring, thats when they are carrying eggs. Fall hunts are designed for either sex.
