wow if this is only three hundred yards wtf are they using scopes for i have a 3-4" shot group 10rds, iron sights, an astigmatism in my shooting eye and in rapid fire from the sitting and kneeling. in slow fire I'll key hole 3-5 of 15rds of my shots with a 1-2 inch shot group. fuck they got twenty mins for twenty rounds with scopes and sniper/hunting rifles. all with an M-16 A2 from the armory(not my own). hell at 500yds i have a 6in shot group 10rds
@entity623 300 yds, simulates 600. And good for you on your skillz. You should come down to this and you could clean house and demonstrate how l33t you are.
try shooting like the guy to your right- you see he never takes his cheek off the stock. your right leg shouldnt be bent either. everyone on the shooting line has thier legs straight. trying to re-adjust your cheek- body between shots makes for a poor group. same shot every time = concistancy!!!! trust me try it on your own time and your marksmanship will improve.
@sirhc141 , I remember asking a question on a hunting forum abot somthing else and this will be my seventh year traveling over to the USA
And yes would you be able to send me some more info on that shoot, me and my buddy would love to come and shoot that match,
Carlos is a man that ive read a lot about and i have freinds who were trained by him, he was a very intresting person and left behind a good knowlage that has helped both the USA and the UK improove there sniper schools
Someone straighten me out,, a simulated 600 yards is really 300 yards point of impact on this video,,(not picking here) how does one calculate this to be like 600 yards,,where is the drop difference,,wind drift and so on? Oh and watch the feller in the front shooting,, very little movement,,but the forth person down the LINE,your hat would no longer fit your head if you were in a real scout /sniper mission. You all should watch the feller in the front. IN ALL, well done video, I enjoyed!
@sniper1971able sure... it means keeping the barrel steady to withing .0069" in order to hold on target to better than 1.047"/100yds. What's your point? And so what, I had fun and maybe some day I will get better.
You got to love when people try to match him with modern rifles while in a relaxed position. Carlos was under heavy enemy fire and used a bolt action. There will never be another Carlos because there will never be a duplicate battle. One thing is for sure, he had Big Brass Balls or he was just plain Crazy, maybe both lol
@CR3W1SH03S ahh thats nice...and where is this at?
i shoot ten meter air rifle as an njrotc cadet and now im graduating so im looking for sumthing new!well as soon as i get the funding and age for a real rifle.
@nav2491i The guy in this video makes its obvious anyone can get in. The person in this video was an obvious novice. You do not bring your gun off target to load another round in the chamber, just look at the other shooters they keep the gun on target then chamber the next round with their trigger hand. Its also a hunting rifle not really a precision rifle. Not really impressed with the quality of video and would be surprised if this guy got half his shots on paper.
Yep, Im a novice. Everyone is the first time they try something new. It's a VERY accurate rifle BTW and teh guy that was kind enough to let me use it scored well with it.. I on the other hand did not but out of 20 rounds, I had one flier off paper (tugged the trigger) and 3 shots off score. The other 16 were for points... so dont assume anything unless you know. Bottom line, I had fun, met some wonderful people and got a taste of how difficult it is to tag someone in the head at 600 yrds.
@givmedew FYI the rifles they are using are very accurate. the Model 700 was used as a millitary sniper riffle and it doesnt matter if u keep ur gun on target the recoil of the last shot will throw it off even reloading will no matter how much u thought u kept it still plus they are shooting single shots they have to load every round into the chamber manually so befor u go and tell people what they are doin wrong try shooting a gun first
@wvufreak44 I do apologize to the guy who originally posted this however I do still feel you are incorrect. I was trained to stay down, and yes this gun has a lot of kick however you will still see shooters staying down on a bolt action .50 BMG so I think that this being a slightly smaller gun you still stay down. I do own a 700 and a modified FP10LE which is essentially the same thing and yes you can still see the target after the guns comes back down. Again sorry to original poster.
Read Charles Hendersons book about Carlos, it is very quick read, I read it in 3 nights. He found the white feather one morning after seeing/appreciating the beauty of the day in contrast to the war. He wore it as dare and a symbol of his duty to his fallen brethren. He was a truly great American in that he gave his all to the USA.
@hkhunter1 i did read the book it was "Marine Sniper: 93 confirmed kills" and it was a great book very well written and easy to read. i certainly reccomend it.
Where did his wearing of the white feather come from? I know that he wore it (I believe in his cover) but have never heard why. Also, was he using a ghillie suit during his service?
Not sure why on the white feather. Haven't been able to find a good source as to why he wore it. Sorry. I'm sure if the mission called for one, he would have worn a ghillie suit from time to time.
Amazing man. Do you know if there is a written biography of him out there anywhere in publication? I know he was an extremely private and quiet man. He only ever gave one video interview.
@FrozenEMT he found the fether out side a hut he lyked it tho it could have been a chicken fether the vc called him long triang meaning white fether and there is a book called marine sniper 93 confirmed kills
@phompiedom you cant say he was better just because his 500+ confirmed kills. it was a different game back then and he was shooting iron sites in winter warfare. he also got shot n the face carlos didnt
@CR3W1SH03S in the book marine sniper it says he saw it on the ground one day and picked it up to taunt all the VC looking for him because hes that awesome
@oahuboi63 Well he was that awesome..I believe he's passed away now if Im not mistaken. May he finally rest in peace. I never got the feeling watching the interviews, etc that he was a very happy man. I hope youre at Peace now, Devil Dog Hathcock.
@governmentstrash After every shot they pull the target down and cover the hole with tape. This way you have no idea how you're hitting by looking for the black spot. So between the sighters and the scoring round there was a lot of tape on the target ;)
@TheBuffaloChicken I AGREE WITH YOU,CARLOS SAYS TO BE A GOOD SNIPER HAS TO BE A INGRAINED THING,LIKE A HUNTER,YOU GOT ONE SHOT,IF YOU MISS YOU DON'T EAT THAT NIGHT,YOU HAVE TO WORK IT THAT WAY.MAKES SENSE IF YOU THINK ABOUT IT.YOUR FRIEND BUBBALEE2.
