  • .38 special has man stopping power. And so does his big brother .357 Magnum!

  • I just watched a man get shot with the 1911 button on.

  • a 38 special in hand is worth two shotguns in your closet at home

hats off to this woman...she did a good job taking this guy down.

  • guys what the hell are we all arguing about. Not only did the .38 special drop the potential robber, but it gave him a seizure, now thats stopping power!

  • this is why guns should be banned, That man could have been killed.

  • Ouch

  • 38 special ? with the right ammo, practice and a speedloader ,it is good enough for defend you life.

  • that woman did the right thing! perfect shot!

  • @naughtyfeline Spoken like a TRUE American!

  • i'm going to tote my .38 til the day i die. hell, i'll tote a .454 casull as well hahaha

  • Sweet. That thug got what he deserved. People act like a lowly .38 won't even slow down an attacker. This wouldn't have gone any better for her if she would have had a 10mm!

  • Where you PUT THE BULLET is the point! a Howitzer is useless if the round is off target! A .38 revolver in the hand of a competent shooter is WAY more effective than a .45 auto in the hands of a bad shooter! (So is a .22!)

  • Rule #2: The Double-Tap. One bullet more will go a long way torward ensuring your survival.

  • lol if that had been a .357 he would've just went down and not even twitched.

  • @usa1229012 THis is true, I was just thinking that, he better be glad he wasn't shot with a 357 magnum or 45.

  • the .38SPL was used in WW2 but it was replaced with the .45 Long Colt and later with the .45 ACP cause the .38 dont have the enought power to stop a japanese or gereman with 1 shot

this video says other think: 1 shot you are down

  • @dxxa94 That was the .38 Long Colt and the Phillipene Moro Insurrection from 1899-1913, well before both world wars. .38 Special is a different round entirely.

  • @naughtyfeline couldn't say it better myself mate

  • You tell them, naughtyfeline.

  • If ya got common sense you'll be fine with a little .38 snubbie :D

  • The 38 Special worked for Jim Cirillo, and as Bill Jordan said it's the most powerful catridge that the average man/woman can gain a high degree of proficiency on.

Also it's only the hits that count.

  • .38spl is no slouch, especially in certain loads with certain bullets. Any +P+ round in .38spl, is almost as good as a .357magnum in most cases. I doubt this lady had +p in her revolver but it did work. Shot placement is everything with .38spl and smaller though.

  • thats what i carry a 38sp+p 130gr winchester bonded and its a good rd will definetly get the job done

  • if someone puts their hand in their jacket pocket and pokes their finger out like they have a gun, they're asking to be shot. legally and ethically. as far as stopping power goes, this isn't a good video example. shot placement is key and this shot went low, probably just above the groin. from the looks of it, he's not finished. unfortunately our laws don't protect the victims. without a kill shot, you could be asking for legal problems later.

  • @templetonrocks

The original video i saw said he was shot once, in the shoulder.

  • @templetonrocks She shot him in the shoulder.confirmed later in the video..I couldn't include it because the audio was bad

  • Tis' only a flesh wound.

  • That's crazy, you just never know.

  • Most of the effect here is psychological. Im sure there was plenty of physical pain but by the way he went down I would say he wasn't too incapacitated. Real stopping power is seen when they just collapse and hit the floor like a ton of bricks and go limp he could have been shooting back with all that energy. He deserved every grain of lead he took but it would have gone much differently if hit with a 10mm or 357 mag or 44 mag. Much less squirming

successful response none the less though

  • Is this soposed to be impressive? or sad, i dont know much about guns.

  • I wonder if the .38 round is + P or standard? My personal choice in not a .38, but I know those overpressure rounds can be very, very lethal.

  • Fat man get owned! Rolling on the floor like a Turtle.

  • @naughtyfeline Well, they live ignorant/niave lives. I keep a loaded .357 within an arms length of the bed here in suburbia....the 1911 loaded flying ash trays isn't too much farther. What many libs don't understand is that you are responsible for your own personal safety, not the cops. This is a simple fact of reality, not a rule of law. The cops don't protect you on your job or in your house, they hopefully catch the people who did something to you.

  • did the man have a gun ?

  • @ballygeale1 who cares the scum bag was robbing the place what an animal

  • @ballygeale1 Good question, I was thinking the same thing, did he have a gun?

  • I wished she had my 357 magnum 686 2.5 inch barrel, combat grips, and some hydroshock tips. You think that was funny! It would be talked about around the world a would be robber ballz shot off on camera. If he had the chance he might have shot her, but any gun is better than no gun just learn to shoot it!

  • Seriously people, you can't make a judgement on her actions without hearing the audio. First the guy appears to be pointing something at her through his pocket. Second, with the audio you may find out that he said something like "open the register or I will kill you" etc.

  • This vid is real - I remember seeing it on one of those cops on camera type reality shows. He was trying to rob the place and she shot him once in the lower abdomin, just above the groin area - ouch!

  • This vid isnt a fake - I remember seeing it on one of those cops on camera type reality shows. He was trying to rob the place and she shot him once in the lower abdomin, just above the groin area - ouch!.

  • Poor baby he got shot

  • Poor baby he got shot

  • piratesport is right. Poor black man. He was just standing there, being a passive, model citizen, and BAM! she shot him... oh wait, I'm sorry, HE was the one threatening HER life.

Seriously piratesport, does the "poor black man's" bullet have to actually be en route to the woman's head before you think she has the right to defend herself?

  • Psychological stop.

So called "one shot stop field studies" are bogus pseudoscience engendered by gunrag columnists. Carry decent hollowpoints of the fattest caliber (you can shoot proficiently with) that will meet a minimum penetration depth of at least 12 inches. Then practice. Alot.

    ::end rant::

  • @johnpatrick818 Great post. Without penetration nothing happens, and the bigger the hole, the more lethal the round. It's pretty much as simple as that :) (if you want to talk energy, then talk 300 mag or bigger, which doesn't apply to handguns.)

  • i wonder was he on his way out the store bc if he was shes going to jail for attemped murder no survival for life or brawl well atleast in chicago thats the only way u can shoot a robber.

  • Amen to that... there are people in this world who would take your life from you for a quarter, and not lose a moments sleep about it. it is the God given right of any life form to act to protect its own existence!!!!

  • @NoJeanNoMoney1. The Soldiers at Fort Hood weren't allowed to carry on base. There were not plenty of guns lying around as you say.

  • did he have a gun ?

  • dat der is sum racism! haha, priceless, anyways, shot placement is key, but in those situations its pretty much luck, a bigger bullet would increase your chances, i mean, a .22 short will kill you just as dead as a S&W .500, but i personally wouldn't trust my life to a .38, i would a .357 sig or a .357 magnum or larger, but ideally i wouldn't go below a .357 sig

  • This is how all robbery's should end.

  • Shot placement is key,but in the real world a bad guy would run away and call a amboolance after being shot or walk in the emergency room for treatment.

  • @boostimalaka1 Thats free treatment they have free healthcare and a free bamboolance ride to boot

  • Thats why I hope mcdonald wins over chicago so that here in New York we get a chance to protect our selves. I was in a store in 2005 and it gt robbed and the criminal had a gun me and two girls and the clerk where unarmed....That's liberalism at work I'm from New York City I hear about this all the time. I'm just glad the guy never pointed the gun at me..

  • @Caretika

    "That's liberalism at work"

Don't be an idiot and divide the situation based on some general political ideals. You will never win if you make it a "liberal" vs "conservative" issue. Make it a common sense issue. Dividing people like that will get no results.

Neither party has all the answers. I doubt you could scrape a decent solution for any issue from either pot.

  • he sholdnt have been robbing ,i wish my sister had that weapon and ammo and shot the guy that killed her slowly from the legs up,people that have no reguard for others should be shot on site.someone comes to rob me better kill me first because i am coming out shooting.

  • my grandpa has one of these its a strong gun

  • "She was a racist for shooting that black man"- Truly priceless, considering the clerk was a black woman. Another youtube idiot uncovered.

  • According to the comment thing, he was only hit once. I might add though, that the clerk probably believed he had a gun, and it was not clear if he was giving up or not even after being shot.

Rule is, if you have a reason to shoot something dangerous, keep shooting til it's not a threat any longer.

  • @leevancechurchill

    it's one shot...

  • she only shot once, she just jumped because she thaught he was going to shoot her!!

  • If the police caught him and he went to jail for a few months he'd probably be robbing again as soon as he got out.

But in this situation I don't think he'll ever think of it again.

  • "She was a racist shooting that poor black man!"- That's rich, she is black.

  • She shot him kind of slowly between rounds. Business owners should be trained to shoot multiple rounds, rapidly & accurately to vital areas, to be more humane instead of slowly torturing the armed robbers.

  • Why? He came in to steal her livelihood and possibly kill her. Or rape her too, who knows. If he's not prepared to risk pain, he shouldn't be holding up gas stations.

  • @StrixNoctis

That or just use a shotgun.

  • @StrixNoctis

That or just use a shotgun.

  • @StrixNoctis Slowly torturing? At this case the robber can survive, but shoot multiple rounds would very likely to EXECUTE the robber.

  • She was a racist shooting that poor black man!

  • I couId understand him if he came back a few months Iater ^^

  • Comment removed

  • i don't see how it's "knocked down power"

    assuming pain wasn't an issue...

would this really knock some one off they're feet? doubt it...

  • @420420KAT news flash......no handgun round is going to blow you off your feet

  • poor dude, he probably walked in to get a pack of gum, and the lady just began firing at him!

"And here's your change - BANG!"

Actually this is real footage of some dude who tried to rob the joint and the clerk took him DOWN!

  • it looks to me like the man stopped...

  • Of course your chances of getting a bad round with top quality defensive ammo, from a manafacturer such as Hornady, Remington, Federal, or Speer are practically nil anyway. I've shot hundreds of these types of rounds with never a single failure to fire. In a self defensive situation, however, Murphy's law seems to be alive and well so one must consider that and thus a revolver offers a little more assurance by way of design for self defense, an area where extreme reliability is critical.

  • As far as a revolver being more accurate than a semi-auto, this is highly debateable since I have shot custom 1911's that will literally shoot through the same hole on targets. I do prefer and carry revolver for self defense because of it's failsafe design, if a round does not fire, you simply pull the trigger again. With a semi-auto in a close ,quick, self defensive situation you very likely will not have time to rake the slide, remove the bad round and chamber another one.

  • yes i totally agree being an owner and carrier of a S&W 38 special revolver it is a fool proof system, no jaming or worry just pull and bang

  • 158 gr. is great out a 4" revolver but is a poor choice out of a 2" snubnose like I carry. With a snubnose revolver you must get the V up given the short barrel. The only way to do that is with a +P lightweight bullet 110-125 gr. ,110 gr. is ideal. The 158 gr. is heavy shooting, a bit of recoil and slow out of a snubnose. I load my Taurus 85 with the new Hornady 110gr. +P personal defense rounds. This is an outstanding round for a snubnose and the only one I have found that will expand.

  • 38 Special +P 158 grain lead hollow points, are THUMPERS, believe me. Have mild blast and recoil from a 4-inch revolver, yet expand to 60+caliber reliably, and will blow a 1-gallon plastic water jug wide open on impact. Actually outperforms many 357 mag and 9mm JHP's that fail to open in the first 10 inches of water penetration tests.

With effective bullets, the old 38 Special is absolutely deadly, and a revolver is far more reliable and accurate than an auto-pistol.

  • Comment removed

  • a .38 isnt a very big round but, its a gun, even a .22 would have put that guy screeming on the ground.

  • lol thats fake no recoil he just moved his hand back no gun blast and the guys coat never moved so unless he shot it and it just teled into the dude its a fake

  • huh?

  • The lady behind the counter fired...watch again!

  • @Ttop50ryda

Yeah she fired one round...the original sound is bad that's why I left it off.

  • @with33

A .38cal revolver has very little recoil, how about you go fire one and see for yourself.

  • @with33

A .38cal revolver has very little recoil, how about you go fire one and see for yourself.

  • @with33 You sir, are a moron, you can clearly see gunsmoke at 0:14. Why would anyone need to fake this, convenience store robberies and shootings are caught on tape all the time.

  • @with33 the video quality is to poor to tell, most security tapes are used over and over and there is always a delay in recording to save tape space this was before digital surveillance that is why the quality is poor and even digital surveillance use time delay so there could have been recoil, and depending on the type of ammo

  • @with33 .38 has very little recoil and no flash, learn a little about guns before you speak, it looks like very real shooting

  • That dude got pwned, maybe next time he will think twice before tryin to rob a store. Hats off to the clerk.

  • a shot to the gut will drop anybody no matter the round.

  • a .38 +P Smith and Wesson Model 10 was my 1st handgun back in 2004. It's heavy steel and solid as a rock. More accurate than I am.

Now a days, I use a 1911 - Kimber TLE/RL. The sights are much better, it feels much better in my hand, and it's accurate for me. Very accurate.

I would start shooting with the .38 again if I could change the sites on the Model 10.

  • A .38 special fired from jack ruby's smith and wesson took care of lee harvy oswald.

  • "what is "stopping power"? -The ability of a bullet to neutralize an attackers efforts to harm you. Research, however, has shown that the concept of instant stopping power except with a head or upper spine shot is largely a myth with most common handgun calibers. Stopping power is often refered to as "knock down power" which is used incorrectly by those who are less knowledgeable. Bullets do not knock a human down.

  • I assume those who want knockdown power will go with a shotgun that makes any handgun look wimpy at close range.

  • what is "stopping power"?

  • .38 special is a proven caliber although 9mm is better because it has a higher ballistic coefficient(BC) and has more energy. My carry weapon is a 5 shot .38+P snubnose revolver. Its hard to go wrong, extremely reliable and very concealable. The millitary is governed by the rules of the Geneva convention which prohibits the use of JHP or other types of expanding bullets and only uses FMJ bullets. FMJ are target practice bullets and don't expand and thus transfer much less energy into a target.

  • You will hear various "experts" deride the .38 Special and the 9mm. The truth is, it depends on the load. The military is restricted to a full metal jacket. In the case of military .38 Special, you have a low pressure loading and a 150 grain FMJ bullet. The typical military 115-125 grain FMJ bullets give substantial penetration, but most of the energy is not transmitted to the target.

This is why the military should return to the .45.

  • although shot placement is the most important thing. i've heard some pretty crappy stories about the .38 and it's ability to stop peeps.

  • i carry a glock model 27 and a model 26 everywhere i go

  • Both?

  • imagine if it would have been a 44 or 45 it would have been 1 shot lol

  • same in my country, but if i had to use it i would no mater jail penalty.., of course if it was justifiable situation..

  • That appears to be a 4 inch barrel .38 the shop keeper is using on his criminal. A 4 inch is FAR BETTER than a 2 inch barrel when it comes to personal defense. My S&W mdl#15 has a 4" barrel, and it is a tack driver! Loaded with buffalo bore 158gr LSWCHP +P, I pity the fool who tries to break into my place!

  • Corbon makes short barrel +P with ballistics equal to Std (4"+) loads. BuffaloBore is all hype, won't publish their loading pressures or verify ballistics by 3rd party.

  • @papawx3

Not many people pocket carry a 4 inch barrel. 2 inchers are perfect CC firearms. They are defensive guns... not "tack drivers"

  • Good decision. Good decision lady, Bravo

  • i hve a smith & wesson stub nose and its amazeing i hit a can from 100ys and with my ak-47 i hit a can from 700ys its cool

  • maybe a .44 mag and the guy would never roll on the ground, he would just drop.

  • .44 mag? Ya saw that in a movie did ya? Would he fly backwards too?

  • I have carried .45 ACP, 9x19, .357 Magnum, and .38 Special +P.

In the end, I felt the .38 Special +P was the best out of all of them because I liked the compactness and lower recoil. That is just my opinion. Remember, no matter how big or how little the caliber is, SHOT PLACEMENT makes the most difference.

  • She was very fast on the draw and with the placement of the cash register, she is lucky that she is left handed.

  • he got owned pretty hard

  • There is of course the psychological factor to be considered. This man was obviously not prepared for confrontation or more correctly, resistance. Others would not be so quickly dissuaded. I would say that it was fear that made this particular perpetrator stop.

  • Not to mention the .38 slug...

  • Um yeah, but what I mean is, there are plenty of instances of perpetrators not ceasing and desisting as quickly as this guy did after receiving a center mass hit, .38 or larger. And obviously he has the remaining strength to carry out an attack, but not the will.

  • @jdmac44 So if a larger caliber would not stop him....then?

"obviously he has the remaining strength to carry out an attack"

How do you arrive at that conclusion?

Why didn't he flee the scene if he had the strength?...In the rest of the video he stayed on the floor until the cops came.

  • @recshooter yes the 38 slug definitely helped.

  • Nice justifiable shoot!

  • in switzerland there is a law that every household must have a rifle and they have a low crime rate. they have seemed to work out a good balance and thats why their system works. lets face it tho, would u try to break into a house when you know the occupants have a weapon!

  • banning guns equals more crime, take away the ability to "defend" youself..guess what? the craze heads out there r the wolves out to get the sheep,...and ur the sheep.

  • If you were in a crowded theater and everyone there had a gun (legally) would you feel more or less safe?

  • To legally CC a weapon you must meet many requirements they pretty much make it so that only law abiding citizens can get a CC permit. Sure there are plenty of "lawful citizens" out there that shouldnt hold a weapon on account of them just being clueless and or stupid, but we let them drive 2000lb autos around.. Kind of a loaded question.

  • Not only that but guess how many sheep will go feral because they are tired of being victimized?

It would make otherwise law-abiding citizens into criminals, the temptation is always there but when you pressure people thats all the push they need.

  • Really? Well I'm sure there were many, many guns lying around at Fort Hood. Somehow that didn't seem to prevent the "crazy head" from killing 13 people with his legally-purchased weapon. So much for your theory that proliferation of firearms 'reduces' crime.

  • @NoJeanNoMoney1

actually no firearms are allowed on the premises. if they were allowed I can promise you it would have been someone other than a police officer that would have shot him. due some research before opening your mouth. Homeland security begins with the 2nd amendment dont forget that you may be in a situation one day where someone with a carry permit bails you out of trouble because you were to ignorant to have a gun.

  • On the contrary, NoJeansNoMoney1, some of the worst mass shootings happen in "gun-free" zones, where law-abiding citizens are forced to be disarmed. Fact of the matter, where people are allowed to defend themselves, there is less chances of these shootings, and while you may spout rhetoric, facts back up the truth that an armed society is a polite society.

  • The only people that have guns at a military base are the military police, yes believe it or not military bases are gun free zones! and yes the shooter was eventually stopped by a gun, but not soon enough because only the military police had the guns.

  • not true i know plenty of personel on military bases that own personal handguns and rifles they just have to be registered on base with the MP station depending which base your at.

  • They also have to be stored in either post housing or locked in the unit arms room for those in the barracks.

  • @NoJeanNoMoney1 They don't have guns just lying around at milatary bases and the gun that was used was a 5.7 mm automatic pistol that fires armor piercing ammo and is not avaliable to the civilian public. So he did not legally purchase it at a gun shop. Honest to God! You gun ban people are all the same! You don't have a clue what you are talking about and yet you constantly open your mouths and let the crap fly.

  • Why is every other country worried about Americas firearm crime rate.England has a total firearm ban other than sporting firearms, and their crime rate is out of control!Does this come from jealousy because they don't have a fundamental right to defend themselves or their family?I will take my chances in the good old USA!

  • Well said! Every other country (especially europeans, lord) is so quick to put down America, but they should have a look at their own countrys problems first.

  • should have used a .357 with jhp rounds, or a .45acp. the bad guy would have literally thrown backwards onto the floor.

  • Have you shot anybody before Mr. 45?

45 ACP is an overrated, over-hyped and overpriced cartridge, how will anybody be able to defend themselves with a 45. if they cant even afford to take it to the range???

  • 45 ACP ammo is widely available and relatively cheap. Cartridges like the 10mm and .40 Smith have been trying to emulate .45 ACP ballistics for years. They are attempting to answer a problem that doesn't exist. There is a reason the 1911 Colt is so popular and saw seven decades of service with the American military.

  • my moms 54 and carries one of these on her where ever she goes

  • My new favorite video on youtube.

  • I carry a gun because a cop wont fit in my holster.

  • lol

  • @operator0 AWESOME QUOTE! I plan on stealing it. Thanks.

  • @operator0 hahah i love this comment :D

  • any .45 vids like this? :)

  • A gun is like a SEAT BELT! If you dont have it ON when you need it, Its already too late! Think about children!

  • Good for her.

  • Ummm... if you shoot someone 5 feet away in the nuts with a BB gun it'll stop them.

Th3 38 is a good round... but this video is proof of nothing. Good for her and good shot.

    Well done

  • "When shot with a medium caliber, Stop, Drop and Roll."

    Flop, little fishey :)

If she keeps using that ammo with that pistol, she should pair it with a fisherman's net so she can land her catch!

  • @ Spastb00n - Or what really happens is the criminal knowing that people are armed but not who, decides that knocking the place over maybe not such a good idea in the first place so the crime is averted.

And that is what private ownership and carry of a side arm is about. Preventing crime without ever having to draw the weapon. BUT should the need arise... then the ability to protect oneself and family is priceless.

And yes I carry a gun, a Glock G20 for personal defense.

  • Um....

You're actually looking at a failure to stop.

IF that moron had had a gun, he'd have been firing it. He was still obviously capable of doing so. This was more of a psychological stop than a physical stop, and the former can't be relied on.

The reason she kept shooting was that she thought he had a gun and she correctly assumed early on that he was still capable of shooting. Once it was obvious the idiot had been bluffing, she held fire. No problem on her part.

  • "she kept shooting" She only fired ONE shot and he hit the ground

  • Correct, only one shot fired.

  • Well, I think its better if people wouldn't have acess to guns.

I mean, imagine if you are a robber:

    1. scenario; in a country where nearly noone wields a gun you do not have to be afraight of someone shooting you, you just wave that gun around, get a few hundred bucks, and you're gone.

    2. Scenario; everyone possibly has a gun, especially the shop-owner, you're nervous, the owner makes a nervous movement -> Bang, someone is dead.

    What is better?

  • but the thing is, in real time, things get more complicated it is not just limited to 1, 2 scenarios

  • Some criminals are not going to take the money and run, some are going to rape. Some may decide to cover their tracks by killing witnesses. Do not put your life in the hands of a criminal.

  • Do not put your life in the hands of a criminal, or a cop.

  • There is not a single country in which criminals do not have guns. I hate to break it to you , but in any country , with about $20 , you can go to a local hardware store and get the required components to make a firearm (enough stopping power to kill). Even in the UK , in which guns are severely restricted, there are still firearm murders, and the violent crime rate in London is on par with Detroit Michigan (The highest in the US). Brazil has also banned most guns, and gun crime there is HUGE.

  • too bad the US has the highest firearm crime rate in the WORLD

  • that just means other countries use knives, bricks, etc to kill people, I really don't see a difference in being shot to death and being stabbed to death.

  • Good for her!! People need to fight back.

  • I think he was mostly in shock from being shot when he wasn't expecting it. Probs to lady behind the counter for showing how to deal with criminals. Every law abiding american should be carrying a gun if you ask me.

  • Well said good sir. I agree every law abiding citizen has a right to own and carry so take advantage of it. I carry a 45 auto and the wife has a 38 special.

    No safer feeling.

  • Whatever, the guy became powerless against the clerk even though she probably only caused a fleshwound dumping out the full cylinder.

  • Huh?

  • The joy of an "old fashioned" revolver....point and shoot.......no safety, no magazines, no stovepipe jams, etc., etc., etc..........gotta love revolvers.....

  • yea!!

don't you EVER come back to this 7-11!!!

  • The lady should have only shot him once. Some prosecutors would jump right on that.

  • She did only shoot once....

  • Looks to me like she shot him once at 0:09 and 0:11.

  • yeah I had to cut out the sound because it was bad. You can only hear one shot and later on in the interview she says it was only one shot

  • I wonder why she jumped back so much?

  • why do i count 3 maybe 4 shots?

  • as I said the audio was really bad so I had to leave it out but it was only one shot to the shoulder. The lady even mentioned it in an interview ( Its on youtube somewhere)

  • OH ok... that makes me feel better. I'm all for good people carrying guns to protect themselves but I was thinking she just unloaded on him after he was dropped, which I thought would have been a little excessive. One shot, dropped, good job.
