By that I'm going to assume you mean something like 4 beats per measure, dotted quarter/half note gets the beat - and if so, yeah it's possible, although it's really just a matter of phrasing when you get that specific (like dividing 6/8 into a sort of "2 / dotted quarter note" time)

    I'd call it 6/4 (grouped as 4+2/4), with the occasional common time.

    Yeah just because emo is a mainstream slur word now that equates a lot to its awful fashion, many of us do remember when emo (emocore) wasn't about dressing one way. It was just expressing the way you felt in a deeper and honest way. The screaming was also often more measured.

I was in a band with him and it was a metal band. We are all people and chose to dress how we want. How we dress shouldn't come in to play for anything. Certainly should not be a deciding factor in the music we chose to like.

They had a three track e.p as well that's worth grabbing, they're both on amazon last I checked and if you're a fan of this song then it would be ridiculous not to snap them both up. Listening to the album front to back when you're in a chillout mood, for me at least, is just ultimate win : )

If you're interested in anything more, you should look up "Owen", if you haven't heard of it it's the pseudonym for the solo work of AM's lead singer, Mike Kinsella, who's still active. Without the drums and bass of AM reigning him in his songwriting isn't always as focused, but still the next best thing.

  • "Emo" as a genre means a lot of different things to a lot of different people, the term's been around since the late 80's when it originally described a form of hardcore punk that turned the rage and fury inwards, making it less anger at the world and more introspective, personal, 'emotional' (although really all music conveys an emotion innit). Since then, emo has come to be used, never by the artists themselves, to cover many different scenes. Have a butcher's at wikipedia for more : )

I used to listen to it in the stock room at my old job (working at a clothing store with late teen-20 something females abound) and usually the comments I got were things like "...so when are they going to sing?" It doesn't really compute.

(I was a Lonely Estate), Moving Mountains, Algernon Cadwallader(sory of like a more up-beat version of this band), Joie De Vivre and This Town Needs Guns.

It sucks though because after I downloaded the album, I listened to one track and really liked it so I tried to listen to more and it wouldn't let me for some reason. If the rest of the songs were as or almost as good as the first song I would proabaly buy that album.

    I was actually talking about Rites of Spring, and I think we can both agree that they don't sound much like American Football.
