  • Ok, I have this pedal now and I have to say that his pickups must be HOT. This is because this pedal doesn't like weak pickups. If you don't give this pedal some strong input, it won't do you any favors. The EQ cuts too many frequencies before the amp, making your attack weak and gain...meh. However, if you have high output pickups, or use some sort of boost, this thing is brutal and sounds awesome. HUGE difference. But I can't recommend it if you have neither of those.

  • I have to say...this pedal sounds damn good in this video. Most pedals with "Metal" in the name are disappointing IMO. This was refreshing.

  • sounds amazing.

  • also depends on the amp...

  • Paul is perfect for Guitar World's gear demo's always a good presentation and demonstration

    great job

  • ARGH, large gain pedals and nobody here on youtube can use them properly, this is about as close as it got with a thrash/speed sort of sound but I was hoping for something with more grunt like Bolt Thrower or Morbid Angel

  • what guitar is this??it has a very cool design! ;)

  • @hellisherable thanks dude! ;)

  • good job, this pedal seems very cool

  • the first one is like the constant motion tone...

  • that pedal is not my fav

  • I like this first metal riff :D

  • this guy is the next jason spencer

  • do u guys recommend this pedal? i have a vox satchurator but i feel its not high gain enuff so will use it as a booster and looking for a hi gain dist pedal. was considering this or the modtone extreme metal. any other pedals to recommend?

  • @agentelectric MXR fullbore metal

  • @agentelectric Check on Ebay for a discontinued pedal by Zoom called Tri-Metal,it's about $60-90 but is heavy as hell.I sell you mine and use my other 30 pedals but that's not going to happen man...

  • dude, which is better? boss metal zone or modtone extreme metal?

  • @agentelectric modtone extreme metal

  • well if not gay, just superficial or just, he just needs a couple of jolts of Wild Turkey to loosen him up, come on it's an extreme metal pedal, he's using some kind of a script which does sound gay a lot of times if one has to struggle getting the words out

  • does anyone else think hes gay? but...hes awesome!

  • I'm looking for a cool thrash tone, I'm using a pod x3 live but I want something smaller. This pedal sounds cool, but I don't know the gear you're using. By the way, you look like Marty McFly. :)

  • how much is it?

  • @bastischlonz about $80

  • @Animalincage1 wow, actually kinda cheap...

  • reminds me of the sound Ministry had in the album Psalm 69. Beautiful tight industrial distortion.

  • I want his Job!

  • @leojjj2 Ohh yeaah. Yeah, i'm looking for much the same thing so i can play Annihilator songs properly.

  • @leojjj2

Basically, Slipknot is a massive joke among most people. Not very many people like them out of their 12 year old demographic.

I'm not insulting your tastes, because music is subjective and all that crap, but i'm just warning you. People are likely to abuse you for even liking them.

  • @leojjj2

    Please be a troll.

  • I love GuitarWorld magazine, but their reviews aren't worth very much just because he never tells us what gear he's using. And I have to say a lot of the time he says far too much.

  • Thumbs up if you saw this in Guitarworld's Alice in Chains issue

  • the MXR Fullbore Metal is more brutal

  • I want that guitar XD!!!!

    nice job Paul

  • I want that guitar XD!!!!

  • Didons mon gars, te srai pa un peu pédé par hazard ???

  • He has pretty nice guitar.

  • what´s is that guitar?

  • @RockParadiseBand

it is a Micheal Kelly Patriot.

  • hey why dont you ever tell us what other gear you are using, as this pedal does "not" sound like this video is showing it off as. You are using a certain amp, and delay, reverb, etc etc, please do tell us what is creating this tone?

  • They give you all this information but no direction on where to buy it, I've just been to the ModTone website and it's useless. There are 2 international sellers and the websites that "stock" this product are completely useless, thank you for clarifying this before making me one to buy one.

  • wow thats his only "clean" that was ever even close to clean

  • the only bad modtone pedal i've played is the chorus, everything else sounds great, and modtones are a lot cheaper.

  • hes using a planet waves cable

  • honestly, i dont like this guy.

  • @Al3kskates why? i think that he's like the best reviewer.

  • Boss Metalcore poops on this thing

  • hey paul, another nice vid. 2 things, 1) what guitar is that, it looks killer. 2) i see some1 that looks exactly like you in nyc on 23rd street near the flatiron in nyc? is that you lol! seriosuly though.

  • What is better, the Boss Metal zone or this one?

  • @Rushworshiper92

Boss Metal zone is just the most popular pedal for metal, but it doesn't seem to be the best quality sound, according to majority of metal guitarist.

  • @mrik21 was the original mid cut pedal... from early 90s... it tries to do too much; cant replace an EQd high gain tube amp and maybe a drive / boost.

  • how much for it

  • Gotta say I play a Krankenstein, but I'm sold on one of these for practicing. Sounds really good

  • I like all his solos!

  • MAWD-tone

  • great riffing tone

  • best demo in a long time.

  • that pedaal sounds awesome.... MEEEEEEEETTTTTTTTTTTTTTTAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!! :D don't think i'm just a stupid dickhead metalfan... i think thaat gworld should some other styles: blues, etc...

  • @blogtvpunk

Gay or no, he play better than you ^^

  • @blogtvpunk

    Ok man, you win xD

  • @Rafterman123 fuuuuuuuuuuuuckkkkkkkkkkk ayoooooooooooooooooooo

  • No, I think Guitar World should have a more balanced diversity of music. And not just lame shredding power chords. Anyway, seeing how many people hate you, I'll just ignore your very dignified reply

  • @Rafterman123 well go buy another magazine if your not intersted. but yes i do agree guitar world is mostly metal. subscribe to total guitar

  • I would love to switch to Total Guitar, but I don't think they do Youtube videos. GuitarWorld would just hold my attention and gain more viewers if it just did a little more of other genres which it already does, just not enough

  • @Rafterman123 they have a cd/dvd with every issue though so you can watch it on your computer anyway!

  • Total guitar is a very teen-aimed magazine, which specialises in pop metal and indie. For wel balanced I advise guitar techniques, columns in every style and Guthrie Govan is a columnist.

  • @ibanezbloke clearly you haven't read total guitar for a while, it has a bit of everything. they even did a bit on how to play african guitar lol! but i am switching to guitar techniques to hopefully improve my playing.

  • seems ok, he has a nice legato technique

  • Whoa! No, not a metal zone.

  • reincarnation of metal zone ? :7:

  • damn it sounds so awesome!! i wish i could get a hold of one!

  • how does he get uit to do those squels at 2:56 and up?

  • @RevisedTV artificial harmonics and stuff :D have a go on youtube and you'll find howtos

  • @walrussalad thanks

  • pinch harmonics

  • the beginign souds like fuel by metallica

  • Like that parametric mids control.

  • his head movement is soo funny

  • Holy fries +.+ me wanty

  • would happily kill anyone for Paul`s job, being at photoshoots with playboy chicks holding guitars, trying out every new guitar. amp and pedal, while getting payed for it!

  • That thing would go awesome with a Blackstart HT5.

  • not my style but at least its the first vid ive heard from guitar world that the mic didnt sound like it was in another room

  • Damn I wish I could do that shite

  • Only thing Paul isnt good at is Thrash Riffing but he's still sick.

  • @WitchKingUchiha1 Ithink it's exaclty the opposite. He demonstrates good stuff as long as it's not metal.Metal always is kinda defined by trashy riffs.Could do better really.

  • hes pretty good, he screwed up a bit though haha

  • sick. paul shreds

  • i had no idea paul was a shredder!

  • How many videos have you watched? He's a terrific player with chops up the waazoo

  • i watch these videos just to hear him play i swear

  • Is there a way to get this built into the guitar???

  • you could route out your guitar and take the shit out of the pedal and mount it in the guitar and find a way to have the switches stickin through the body i guess

  • @Craydon

    that is possible.

brian may used to have a distortion system inside his guitar.

unfortunately, he got rid of it...

  • I have when this guy add effect and dont say he did he is using some delay

  • I agree on this point, he was clearly using some delay on the extremely small solo he played. He really should mention what amp and equipment he is using throughout the review or at least list it onscreen during the review.

I have said this in numerous posts Guitar World vids but no one there is reading them!

  • @Vercingetorix it's cuz a lot of the time their getting paid to review them so if it's not normally good then they add a whole shit ton of stuff to make it sound better

  • @Vercingetorix You should see Limitless Studios' gear reviews in that case. You'd love 'em ;)

  • this thing actually sounds pretty damn good

  • insane!

  • The EQ sounds brilliant.

  • Nothin beats the BOSS ML-2 Metal Core distortion pedel.

  • Very true...

  • get an mxr fullbore... way better than this

  • he clearly doesn't know how to play some good metal

  • Did you see the review for the Dave Mustaine signature guitar - evidently not, otherwise you wound not have written that statement.

  • after about 6months of bieng suscribed to guitarworld, this is the first thing i would actually get

  • good for thrash!

  • Your JAM is shit - LOL!

  • I dont see why people waste money on these pedals when they should just get 'better amps'...lol

  • well for people who can't afford better amps. Not everyone has enough cash to throw around whenever they want to change their sound.

  • So true...I forgot that I am rich...

But seriously, I see your point...thanks

  • o the head movements....

  • duuude

  • this pedals bad ass

  • that actually doesn't sound too bad

  • Great sounding one!

  • thats sick!

  • sounds like early motley crue tone

  • sounds like my boss metal zone.

    don`t like it

  • yeah its really not the best, i played the gt8 and single pedals arent useful i think

  • sounds nice i might get one

  • COOL

  • Yes. Yes you are. Now for a topical comment :o ... I think it would be nice to see more companies expanding on the possibilities of distortion pedals. To many people doing the same thing atm.
