In this particular case I would have set Cholmo free contigent on him giving the Njoya family arable 100 acre piece and a ten mil trust for the kids. Please people dont trivalise this issue without the full knowledge of what went on, this is not a race issue, the racist comments are uncalled for we live in a civilised society. This is a case that failed from the very beginning, a useless police service that failed to carry out proper investigations & a faliure of an inept justice system. The Kenyan justice system cannot guarantee justice because it is shrouded in political corruption so never assume that you can get justice in a Kenyan court.

The victims wife and the murderer don't look really surprised because a deal was cut earlier by his family, the woman and the judicial system. Some sort of family maintainance or compensation with a short sentence to satisfy the public. Everyone wins and he walks out in 4 months. This is why Kenyans take the law into their own hands i wonder how much the judge was paid, can he honestly look into that widows face and say 8 months was the just sentence, yet other Kenyans get 7 years for stealing a chicken and have no hope of getting a nolle prosequi. If he had the ability to reflect on his life this wouldnt be 2nd time he'd be facing murder charges. Justice in Kenya is not blind it knows one colour : green.

Sometimes harsh punishment do not produce the best of outcomes. In this particular case I would have set Cholmo free contigent on him giving the Njoya family arable 100 acre piece and a ten mil trust for the kids. Njoya is forever gone and Cholmo's life sentence can never lessen pain and loss his family will forever live with, legaly and moraly appealing as this may seem. Perhaps the family's should now consider an out of court settlement based on alternative dispute resolution.
