Like some European countries, they are considering removing the state from "Marriage" and leaving it to churches/social institutions, so the gov is only involved in civil partnerships. As for churches being forced, I don't know where you get your news, but it isn't happening in MA or elsewhere in the US. Just as Catholic churches don't have to marry people who have been previously divorced, no church has been or will be forced to marry same-sex couples.

Once again missing the point of the whole debate. Prop 8 sought to deny rights to one group that were available to another under the law, which is UNCONSTITUTIONAL. Look up the 14th amendment. The equal protection clause was used to end segregation between races in schools, and it will ultimately ensure that any ban on gay marriage be overturned.
@SAdventist - like a drivers license is granted by the state, a marriage license is granted by the state and correct its not a right. One has to meet certain qualifications to get the license... are u old enough, can u drive, do u have an STD, etc. So if one meets the qualifications they get a license - except for gays it seems. Thus the 14th Amendment makes things equal, like equal rights, or equality to get a license. Its not hard its a civil right, noting to do religion or anything else.

Marriage is an institution that society uses to encourage monogamy, which is beneficial. What do gays and lesbians need society to condone their behaviour, which have no benefits to society? Monogamous heterosexual relationships developed before the institution of marriage; it evolved naturally. How come this did not evolve naturally for gays and lesbians. Once again missing the point of the whole debate. Prop 8 sought to deny rights to one group that were available to another under the law, which is UNCONSTITUTIONAL. Look up the 14th amendment. The equal protection clause was used to end segregation between races in schools, and it will ultimately ensure that any ban on gay marriage be overturned.

@SAdventist - like a drivers license is granted by the state, a marriage license is granted by the state and correct its not a right. One has to meet certain qualifications to get the license... are u old enough, can u drive, do u have an STD, etc. So if one meets the qualifications they get a license - except for gays it seems. Thus the 14th Amendment makes things equal, like equal rights, or equality to get a license. Its not hard its a civil right, noting to do religion or anything else.

@SAdventist Thanks, I glad we agree. 2 things, 1= 'marriage' is not new, but has changed over time - inter-rational marriage (14th Amendment), when Jesus was walkin the earth men ruled over women, women had no choice in the matter, and men could have more then one, that changed - any yes in some areas even a 'boy' on the side - please go check it out its true history. 2= we cannot make 'classes' of citizens .. you can do this but - he/she/Jew/mixed race/gay cannot. Monogamous heterosexual relationships developed before the institution of marriage; it evolved naturally. How come this did not evolve naturally for gays and lesbians.
