  • Well Nice Bird X

  • I love this song and Im a teen

  • Top bird Top Song

  • The reason she is so glum and there is no studio audience is because there was a strike at the BBC when this was recorded. bonawe 60

  • both are/were great singers

  • wow she has so much charisma

  • Comment removed

  • I was wondering why she looked so blasé about this, then I realised this is actually a recording of a rehearsal for the TOTP.

  • She is Gorgeous

  • love this

  • She's simply gorgeous <3 love you Sandie x

  • Soooooooooo BEAUTIFUL ♥

  • Cool, aloof, gorgeous and super talented! No frills, the song stands up on its own and screams 60's Britain and Carnaby Street....I was born too late to really appreciate the era but its good to be able to revisit the time on YouTube.

  • SONG IS WONDERFUL !!! TNX!!!

  • no there just one dusty springfield. I had the biggest crush onsandie i was 15 so long live pupply love.

  • Logging in from Wellington, New Zealand. This was released by PYE Records in may 1965 when I was just 19. Sandie was and still is my secret love and there could never be any other bare footed girl who could sound like her. She's the best.

  • She looks very uncomfortable and unhappy singing this song. But still a brilliant song.

  • Shes beautiiful...

  • So cool and sexy beats an video of today mmmmmmmmmmm

  • so...wiggys top of the pops?

  • I love this woman but I don't think I ever saw her smile in any of her videos. So pretty though.

  • No sure if it has been mentioned but this is a rehearsal performance!!

    Great Though

  • Pete Murray dressed like your granda

  • A great artist - shame she has absolutely no TV/Stage personality - love her songs and voice though.

  • A great artist - shame she has absolutely no TV/Stage personality - love her songs and voice though.

  • She reminds me a bit of Kate Middleton!! :) Classy lady! where has class gone now??

  • @GibbyGibbyGibb Except she is NOT a jew!

  • pobre chica parece que la estuvieran por hechar a patadas por la cara que pone..

  • Beautiful lady , brings back so many memories....I`m still in love

  • She isn't smiling here because this is a run through and was not meant for broadcast. She is simply going through the songs for camera angles etc

  • There was a mile of brilliant female singers and some better than sandy.

  • Thank God for the British Invasion cause we'd be listening to slop like Frankie Avalon and Fabian if it wasn't for the Brits!!!!!

  • Another wonderful song sung by Miss Sandy.. If this is only a demo run, I can only imagine the performance on the night... BIG ROAAAAR!!!!

  • Apparently she hated it too, and Pete Murray looks like yer granda!

  • Apparently she hated it too

  • In memory of my dad xx

  • This is a rehearsal tape for Top of the Pops with Pete Murray (the presenter) floating into the picture. No wonder Sandie looks bored she's just walking through the camera shots and the audience hasn't arrived.

  • Thank goodness it's a rehearsal!

That explains why the camera's momentarily fixated on a crumpled piece of paper!

  • Dusty Springfield is way better...

  • dusty springfield looks like a dog compared to sandi.....

  • @junkman19571 don't say that...

  • @jessicarc14 i'm not wrong though am i.....eh..

  • @junkman19571 Hey you shouldnt speak ill of the dead, Yeah Sandi is fantastic but so was dusty too!!, they're both top notch in my book.....

  • Was this just a filmed rehearsal from TOTP of Sandie Shaw performing this song?

  • for some reason I like when women do this with hair 1:01 - 1:06

  • Gorgeous voice and looks.........60's icon xx

  • Sandie had a pleasant voice and the looks of a super model. Infact she was better looking than most super models. But I wonder why she looks so pensive in this video.

  • lovely voicebout the botox tho

    Pity a

  • nice song great voice

  • very nice!

  • I deady wanna have the song "I've heard about him" but I can't find it… any help?

  • Sandie Shaw, donde quiera que estes, gracias por esta hermosa cancion.

    Saludos desde Mexico.

    Sandie te Amo.

  • What has happend to miss Sandie Shaw now? Is she still around?

Of course it is possible to search on Google, but hello....

  • Pardon the bad english writing. However, she will be my avourite. Belive message has been understood out there. Would be great to proof read before pressing enter.

    Sorry, my mistake. tg

  • @tguttebe Don't worry about it tguttebe...we got it. No problem...you're cool.

  • No doubt about it. She is the best Apperance and song talent is the best I've seen. I do not know what it is but she really pulls some strings.

  • Sandie Shaw sang at our college May ball in 1968. I was prepared to be underwhelmed based on the TV coverage she'd had, but she was absolutely great. One of the best I've ever seen.

  • I love Sandie's chic disinterest - Greta Garbo of 60s pop! Also my favourite song!

  • Ohh wow! I was about 7 when I first saw this. So cool. So gorgeous. Top Chick!

  • Ohh wow! I was about 9 or 10 when I first saw this. So cool.

  • What a babe!

  • This just a rehearsal, thats why she looks so serious.

  • i read all well most of your comments ..sandie never really smiled much in her videos that was just sweet sandie hey ! she is a lovely lady .....

i tell you some thing k back in the 70's i was at top of the pops in london ( its a music studio at the bbc t.v ...and i was making faces at sandie when she was singer and not one time did she smile but after she sent me a msg and said i was funny ! and she was loughing in side and said pls thank that young man ....

never for get that day ...blesss

  • Flip, how sad she had to conform with the requirements of the day when singing this song. I bet she would have loved to have danced and showed that love was worth preservation poor thing!! I would have danced in a quietly provacative way to prove a point here. LONG LIVE LOVE!! yep and I will keeep dancing to this tune HOOOORAAAY!!!

  • Sandie was one of the best

  • Comment removed

  • Like many others of Sandie´s songs this one was written by Chris Andrews. Both were very popular in Germany.

  • The reason she looks bored is because it's a rehearsal/run through for TOTP.

  • i have this on dvd. great song!

  • kinkkenny is joking surely.. Sandie Shaw is amazing and beautiful but better than Dusty ha ha she is not even in the same league as Dusty Springfield. Dusty was the greatest ever soul singer in the UK..Sandy Shaw sang bubble gum music. A front runner for the Spice Girls if you like

  • @TractorBoy50 I agree. Dusty Springfield cannot be compared to Sandie Shaw because they *were* two different styles of singer, two different types of music. Irrespective of who we think is *better* though, it certainly goes without saying that all music from this era is waaaaay better than the sort of crap we have to listen to today!

  • She was beautiful.

  • more talented than dusty???? hmmmm........i say even stevens...

  • Sandie has always been a great singer & she always will be.

    She sings this beautifully!!

  • I was named after her!

  • I agree kinkkenny - she was the best among her contemporaries. I think she was underrated.

  • she's clearly too cool for this.

  • She Is Really Beautiful

  • sandy was fab and cool

  • fantastic singer, but dusty springfied and petula clark were better.

  • Sandy looks bored, the bloke sitting on the edge of the stage looks bored, even Pete Murray looks bored..

  • @olemuckspreader think it was a studio rehearsel mate, she was just singing it for the camera, sound and lighting people......

  • Sandie looks great in this video. She's got that icy enigma thing going on.

  • ... due to her shortsighteness-a real babe!

  • Comment removed

  • essa música é maravilhosa!

    o ritmo é perfeito.

    :)

  • she looks like a young debbie harry

  • @sparkle935 except better

  • This is the best version of this song.. love this video.

  • this is the original version!

  • no its not, this is the live version which is better than the album version!

  • sorry to disappoint you but this is not live : she's miming -it's a rehersal for Top of the Pops - a BBC programme in the 60's, thus making this the original "version" since she's miming to the single(which went straight to number 1);the actual performance was wiped out-she was wearing a white dress with flowers on her hair- absolutely D I V I N E and bloody sexy too!But there is alive version of Long Live Love on you tube- she's wearind a trouser outfit and her hair is darker

  • Wow get a freaking life lol

  • I have one !What about you?

  • what a misery she was

  • It was a rehearsal (note no audience). The actual performance does not survive.

  • i love sandie shaw but this performance was like rigor mortis had set in

  • Well you are right, but she's not putting anything into this performance because it's a camera rehearsal for Top Of The Pops (Xmas special 1965) and was never meant to be seen. That's why there's no audience there, but the camera still cuts away to show the studio floor ( 1:26 )

  • Now she was a "Boho Chic" - so Laid Back, Groovy and Sexy. Loved the fact she performed in her Bare Feet.

  • I can state without fear of contradiction, Sandy Shaw (with or without shoes) is a more talented Singer than Cilla, Lulu, Dusty, and anyone else from that era put together. Sandy, Baby you are the Mutts Nuts.

  • Sandie gets the number two spot when it comes to Brit pop singers from me. No pop singer - British or otherwise is better than Dusty Springfield in my opinion.

  • yes she's great but Helen Shapirio was the greatest of them all and she was just 14 Not many have the power that she had ,yes Dusty was very special as was Pet Clark but the girl from East London had more power in her voice

  • @kinkkenny She's certainly the prettiest, but it's useless (and unfair) to say one musician is more talented than another. Music is about creativity, not talent.

In this video she mostly just stands there and looks bored, as if she has better things to be doing.

I'm not trying to bash her though, I quite like her, and she's so damn beautiful.

  • @kinkkenny I Will contradict you; Sandie sings quite stiffly and with no emotion. Are you kidding me? Dusty had great vocals and great stage presence. No Comparison!!!!

  • @kinkkenny

Please !!!! more talented than Dusty Springfield? not even in her dreams

  • @kinkkenny Shes good but helen Shapiro is better

  • @kinkkenny Yes, agreed but Petula was amazing too!

  • @kinkkenny just wish she would smile more

  • @kinkkenny Are you mad, Sandie did not even come close to Dusty. Dusty had a FAR superior voice. Sandie was average.

  • @kinkkenny karen carpenters beats her , sandie shaw is my 2nd singer now :)

  • the song I meant is called "Ask Any Woman" and not "Ash Any Woman",Desolé.

  • Ice cool.Sex on a stick. Great vocals too. Thanks for posting.

  • I've never heard Sandie Shaw called plain before, wow.

  • Sorry ,but Nico couldn't sing at all - she wasn't a singer, just a prop! Sandie could sing -just look at the "Ash Any Woman " video, she sings it beautifuly and she can reach the high notes allright- not an easy song to sing believe me!As for the expression on her :1: she 's extremely short sighted ,2: this is a rehearsal on TOP and 3: she was never a shop girl and certainly not plain -the first time I heard Sandie being called plain. She had so much finesse and sexappeal.

  • a babe of the highest order!!great voice great attitude

  • This is so cool - she might appear surly but I think it is so natural and sexy.... just her and the music :)

  • She was usually a happy kid... strange day! If she'd been less enthusiastic she would've been dead! Love the song though.

  • TOTP was always famous for insisting that the artists mime their songs - and you'll note she doesn't have a microphone - so my guess is her expression is possibly down to being narked at not being allowed to do it live.

  • luv this thx for posting

  • even though it's a rehearsel her dead-pan delivery is quite cool, wonder if she changed much when she had the audience there.

  • >wonder if she changed much when she had the audience there.

She's usually pretty smiley during her TV stuff - this is just going thru the motions.

  • An edition of "Blue Peter" from 1985 was among the last to be film recorded.

  • ,,, "At last the 1948 show" was another& the first two series of "Dad's Army", this copying process went on well in to the 1970's. So you occasionally see b/w TOTP from the 1970's as well!

  • All 145 Dr Who's from the 1960's are film recordings, "dusty""cilla"lulu"(excepting some clips of Jimi Hendrix) Hancocks half hour, Steptoe and son, all 5 surviving TOTP from the 1960's. You can tell if they are film recordings by scratches, film wobble, dull sound and "pops". They film recorded programmes for export OR when videorecorders where not available.

  • It's a rehearsal clip from TOTP. Considering the BBC's appalling record for wiping irreplaceable performances, it's a miracle this clip survived.

The 'awkward guy' in the cardigan is presenter Pete Murray

  • This is not quad videotape, it's a "telerecording" that is a film recording onto 16mm film. Either a stored field system or a rapid pulldown system. Hence the scratches and wobble of the film. Only a bit of tape fromn 1965 survives of videorecorded TOTP from the 1960's.

  • is it just me or is Sandie very sexy in this video

  • VERY

  • Its obviously a just a rehearsal, what looks like bad camera work is just where the public would be dancing

  • yes, it has to be rehearsal, there is no audience.

  • rehearsal vid

  • Comment removed

  • NoNo - this deadpan stage presence was how Sandie did it in the early days. It wasn't until the late 60's that she became somewhat animated while singing.

  • Forgot to mention that the awkward guy and bland camera shots were all part of her act during this period.

  • >Forgot to mention that the awkward guy

    >and bland camera shots were all part of

    >her act during this period.

The guy is Pete Murray, one of the 4 presenters of TOTP during that era - he has nothing whatsoever to do with Sandy or her "act". She isn't bothering with a performance because - as others have said - this is a camera rehearsal. The proper "final" version has been lost.

  • Looks like she'd rather be somewhere else.

  • I think this is taken from a rehearsal rather than from the actual show, that would explain the awkward camera takes too...

  • she looks like an extremely talented supermodel...

  • Re 45 seconds, that fella down below (the groovy dancer bloke) did something to make her laugh. He almost got a smile from her so it must have been very good. Great performance, love the demeanour, isn't she gorgeous.

  • She definitely is...!

  • god knows why i got the thumbs down any reason my comment was bad people???

  • It's from the 60's,though thats not neccesarily worth a thumbs down

  • So detached and understated in her delivery. I think i have a serious crush on Sandie.

  • She culd easily fall off that piece of plywood and I dont think this film should ever have been made.

  • Fantastic song ! a perfect example of the 70s in england 100 percent impact she made in the music of her generation great footage

  • I love her

  • why do I have a red mark next to my name lol. I only said I couldnt see any mistakes!

  • Love it!

  • Doesnt look like she made a mistake at 45 sec's. Not that i can see anyway. Am i being blind?!

  • As others have pointed out, this was a technical rehearsal for the live performance, hence her seeming 'lack of enthusiasm', non-perfect lip-synching, and some dodgy camera work.

  • timeless classic

  • Think this was in Manchester, she was a stunner!

  • She is so hot!!!!!! wonder if she turned into a MILF?

  • Oh! Sandie looks a bit miffed in this clip! Gives me the horn ever more, frankly.

  • she got the mime wrong at 45 sec and had a

quick smile, was that pete murray looking

    bored as well?

  • it's a rehearsal tape ...this version was shown on a bbc 60's music series several years ago...it was noted then as being a rehearsal pre show...hence, the lack of enthusiasm.

  • I'm pretty sure this must be a mime run through and that's why everyone looks so bored. In fact, at one point you can see that she fails to hum at the right point.

  • what s wrong with her..?

  • this is a rehearsal - either it's a VERY bad hair-day, or she's one of the early testers of BOTOX!!

  • i would think 64 or 65

  • what year was this?

  • this is obviously a run through as she is not 'on'thanks for posting!

  • What a voice, what a woman!

  • Ultra cool before cool was cool.

  • AMAZING , its what the early mid sixties was all about so many thanks for posting this clip , CLASSIC SANDIE at her best , having said that she has hardly changed at all (to look at ) and still as cool and amazing as ever , always with it.

In fact she makes Lulu and Cilla look cheap.

  • I totally agree with no other fema

  • I totally agree with you no other female singer had the finesse that Sandie had.THe others look cheap and common and really trashy.Sandie is unique and to top the lot she has this sexy and vulnerable air about her that make you melt away.

  • MAGNIFICENT Sandie Shaw Number 1. Thanks .

  • Thanks for posting this..great song and singer.

  • thanx for this vid,spope....I love this Sandy-Vid mostly, because she is looking so cute and lovely.

  • Thx spope.... for this vid. I love this sandy-Vid mostly. She looks so cute and lovely.

  • what a star !! barefoot in the chart
