Don't know why I tend to associate this song with Bowie's "Loving The Alien." Something about the two songs sounds that makes me think they would blend well. Hell, maybe I just heard the combo somewhere and have become accustomed to it. Either way, I love both songs so it's a win-win to me.
you know, people say that there was some good song writing on Never Let Me Down (album) but bad production. Exactly what the hell does that mean? I don't quite hear what they're talking about. Some one please reply with an explanation.
@retroEddz well production is about knowing what finishing touches to implement. u could go as far as to change a whole song tho. but the song writing is the opposite its the beginning process of song creation! bad writing is ok if the band is really good.
@retroEddz - "production" refers to the choices made regarding what instruments are used, how instruments sound, how they are 'mixed' together, etc. The writing just refers to the chords/melody/lyrics/rhythm of the song itself. Regarding the "production" of this record, some people may find that certain elements on this record, like the drum sounds and synth sounds for instance, were less than remarkable, especially as Bowie's records were often sonically on the groundbreaking side of things.
is there an instrument this guy cant play? been into him since 83 (modern love) but wasnt allowed to see the serious moonlight concert! however the first gig i did go to was Glass spider!!! ahhh the memories...
I'l bedamned, that isDallesandro !! Blood For Dracula, Flesh For Frankenstien and Trash are three of my favorite movies, so I'm familiar ith the guy. He still looks pretty good her too.
Depeche Mode's song name is Never let me down again, and has nothing in common with this great song, except the 4 first words. That song is available in Music for the Masses 1987 album and 101 live album 1988...and is the last song in their concerts always ( in a 99%).
no, nothing since Reality, I heard he had to take things easy after a mild heart attack. Can't blame him if he's quiet for health reasons. He's still the best though!
His voice was good, but that song was definitely his weakest I've heard in the last 2 days...(just found him and decided his worst album could not be bad.)
This was our first dance at our wedding! We wanted something fun, different and expressive. Who else but Bowie?! We danced our little dance til it made us smile.. LOL
I saw Bowie perform this at the old Tampa Stadium (the "Big Sombrero," before the Glaizers tore it down & build Ray J stadium.) It was the Glass Spider Tour. I was so far away I could only see him on the vid screens to the side of the stage. Everyone would stand up and dance far anything post-Blue Jean, but then sit down to anything earlier. I loved his 70s stuff, too, so I remained standing. An 80s big-haired girl tapped me on the shoulder and asked me to sit down during Heroes. I was pissed.
inappropriately? are you for real?what are you some bible thumper? gahd. This song rocks. It's about one true woman you can turn to who always loves you and who shall NEVER LET YOU DOWN.
The setting of the video is at a "marathon dance" which was popular in the 30's during the Great Depression. Ppl would dance for hours on end, and the last couple standing was declared the winner, and received a cash prize. The 1969 film "They Shoot Horses, Don't They?", directed by Sidney Pollack and starring Jane Fonda and Michael Sarrazin, examines this cruel and brutal craze of the past. The dancers in this video are acting as if they are exhausted from hours of marathon dancing.
I don't really like the video all that much, except for the parts that show David singing because a lot of the people are dancing inappropriately, but I love the song. I wish I could play the harmonica. ^_^
AMAZING!

Apparently the intro voice-over is Mickey Rourke! Don't think that's him in the video, though...

its Joe Dallesandro on screen and its his own voice, not Mickey Rourke's. sounds a bit like Rourke tho lol

What's the deal with this album, then? According to wiki, Mickey Rourke's supposed to be on there somewhere.
hankfletcher 2 years ago
Rourke appears on another song, Shining Star, he does a kinda spoken interlude /rap. Sounds fine.
