What exact brand of wheat flour did you use? I used Hodgson Mill Whole Wheat Graham Flour, and the dough would stretch in my hands and fall apart before I could put them on the stove. They also did not puff up at all. When I made them with 50/50 wheat and white flour, they held together better, but still did not puff up.
I tried making the dough very very soft (would not work if I tried to roll it out with a rolling pin). it still slips and still tears (else they are just too thick). Any more suggestions?
That's very strange....usually, I just press once only to make sure it doesn't tear apart. If you press hard only then it tear apart but when you have soft douhg, you don't have to prees much and should not tear apart....please watch video couple of more times, you might get more tips. It happens that we miss something in video and when we watch again, we realize what it is...so hope it helps..
hi bhavna, iam apreciating you because you are giving quick reply for any doubt..thank you..iam keep watching and trying your recipes..iam a non veg..i dont have any idea to make veg dishes..now iam happy with veg..i love vegetables.thank you for inspiration
Thank you! For the recipe and the instructions for using the electric tortilla machine. I tried to make them on my own tonight. After watching your video, I knew the dough was too dry. I cant wait to try again.
i didnot read it should be ready when i press it sticks and need cleaning if over pressed it comes out at edge roti is chewy .no bubbles come no no stem inside roti no brown color also
I recently bought one expecting to cut down on the time I spend rolling rotis but am having so many problems that am on the verge of giving up. Firstly, when I press, the dough keeps slipping out. secondly, if I press too hard, it tears and if I press less, they come out too thick. In spite of practice, I do not seem to get the right balance. Did you have similar problems? How much practice did you need? Do they come out like the rolled ones for you?
What is the tortilla maker you use? What brand and where did you buy it from?
Please Look on the tortilla maker itself to see what brand it it, if you don't have the boxl I really one and yours look good. I don't time to make roti the other and this would really help me.
Thanks so much Bhavna ;) Now I know why my rotis are not as perfect as yours. I din't add proper oil so the dough became very sticky and the roti used to break while pressing.
You can watch my latest video of Puri and you will see me making puris using Tortilla press. Will sure try to give hint through thumbnail....thanx for giving me good idea...enjoy!
I have the manual press, but it's cast iron and it goes directly on the burner or grill. With some practce you can make all kinds of good breads. And even the "failures" are tasty. :)
thank you for teaching us how make roti on tortila, as i had purchase from big bazar, as per their demo, i didnt understand. but u make my this job very easy. thank s a lot! can u please teach us uttapam by maida flour. request....

If you close from begining, it doesn't give good result. You actually have to immediately lift even after pressing otherwise your roti will be flat papad...enjoy!
if we r just using the roti press(the small on which is in silver color ), how to need the dough, is it possible to make other kind of rotis too using the small one?
The small one is known as Tortilla press which only rolls/press but do not bake. You can make any rotis even with Tortilla press such as Puff puris, corn, jowar and bajra rotis...enjoy!

Hi
If your dough slips then it might not be soft enough. And if dough is right then you won't need to press too much and rotis won't tear apart...
