LYRICS: I'm feeling bitter, I'm feeling sweet Somehow my life is just incomplete My head's so busy and my body's high I think I understand this feeling inside I know I'm ready and I wanna go Get on a roll like a rolling stone If I can wait then there will be a little treat infamy A little treat infamy A little treat infamy A little treat infamy
@Hatenbom This particular track was created in 1998. However, it borrows from "Bittersweet Symphony" by The Verve, which was created in 1997. "Bittersweet Symphony" borrows from "The Last Time" by Andrew Loog Oldham, which was created some time in the mid '60s. Oldham was manager for The Rolling Stones and based this song on the 1965 Rolling Stones song of the same name.
I've always loved this song and this version and after not hearing it for a few years, it still sends shivers down my spine with how good it is. Awesome!!
This track is not a remix of the Verves attempt, it is a remix of The Rolling Stones' 1965 song "The Last Time".
The verve were sued by the rolling stones record company ABKCO who won, and all copyright was reversed over to ABKCO so the verve have never made a penny from this as they stole it, but "Rest assured" did ask, and produced this fully legally.

'In February 1998, "Treat Infamy" by studio engineer Harry Sutcliffe under the pseudonym Rest Assured peaked at 14 in the UK singles chart; the track heavily sampled "Bitter Sweet Symphony". The single was released on London Records; however, due to copyright restrictions this version is no longer available commercially.'
The string section is completely made by Ashcroft. Just because the douchefag lawyers of Jagger and Richards own the rights does not mean they own the beats.
The argument of the lawyers was that the orchestra section (not the strings) was what was oversampled and thus the song was against copy-right.
Part of the song was -sampled- from The Last Time, the rest of it (including lyrics) was created purely by Ashcroft. This is why The Verve was able to ban their song being used in commercials.
I have to correct you. I don't know who "Harry Sutcliffe" is, but there was no such person involved. This track was produced by me, Alastair Johnson, and the voiceover was by a cellist by the name of Nick Carter. The strings were not sampled, they were played live by students from the London School of Music, hired for the session. It was released on ffrr, a subsidiary of London. The original string composition is by Andrew Loog Oldham. We also worked under the name of Canny.
@aljuk It's such a shame that you guys never released anything else under the name of Rest Assured. I've heard some of your Canny productions and they're great as well, but trance has always been my favourite genre, so it's a shame you didn't make anything else in the style of this track. Can't believe you say this almost never got released, what a tragedy that would have been! Have always wondered, are the synths on the track an Access Virus? An all-time classic track, truly legendary!
@aljuk if i remember rightly watching these guys back in the day they also used the korg prophecy, which i have one awesome synth, have had it for the last 12 years and i'm still discovering new stuff with it, i will never part with it
Sweet tune. I've not heard this in years but had it on an old compilation album I had from about '98. I recently gave the album to charity and regretted getting rid of this track.
Love this song, right at 37.5 seconds it really brings back those good memories of rolling back when I was a teen. This track is on an old Urbal Beats cd I found collecting dust.
I've been searching for this track for a long time, and now I've finally found it I'm ecstatic - thanks for posting it!!!!!
used to listen to it on Pete Tong's show on radio1 during my weekly Friday night long and tired drive from Oswestry to London , even tho I'm not into dance music. Just a really brilliant and uplifting track.
Where can I get an mpg version so can burn it and listen to it in the car?
There were two versions of 'Treat Infamy' on the same single which peaked at no. 14 in the UK charts in February 1998. The female vocalist on one of the remixes was Shelley Nelson who also appeared on the Tin Tin Out single 'Here's Where The Story Ends' which came out a couple of months later. I thought this version was great but the original by the Verve was also a classic.
Nice one mate! I made this track with a couple of other guys, we also went under the name of Canny. I'm glad to hear you like it so much. We never meant to release it - we only did it for a laugh but it ended up on a demo by mistake and every major label went mental for it. Contrary to what a lot of ppl think, it's not a remix of the Verve. The strings are from an orchestral intro to a Stones track, and we had them played on this track by students from the London College of Music.
I remember this, and even remember seeing it on totp.
I just learned of the copyright issues now.

This is a combo between Bittersweet Symphony and another trance song that was popular in the 90's. What was that trance song's name?

If Jagger and Richards own the rights, how can it have been made by Ashcroft???
You can only win things in a court if they are true, no matter how good your lawyers are.
